1 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, 2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and take of them rods, one for each fathers’ house, of all their princes according to their fathers’ houses, twelve rods: write thou every man’s name upon his rod. 3 And thou shalt write Aaron’s name upon the rod of Levi; for there shall be one rod for each head of their fathers’ houses. 4 And thou shalt lay them up in the tent of meeting before the testimony, where I meet with you. 5 And it shall come to pass, that the rod of the man whom I shall choose shall bud: and I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against you. 6 And Moses spake unto the children of Israel; and all their princes gave him rods, for each prince one, according to their fathers’ houses, even twelve rods: and the rod of Aaron was among their rods. 7 And Moses laid up the rods before Jehovah in the tent of the testimony.

8 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses went into the tent of the testimony; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and put forth buds, and produced blossoms, and bare ripe almonds. 9 And Moses brought out all the rods from before Jehovah unto all the children of Israel: and they looked, and took every man his rod. 10 And Jehovah said unto Moses, Put back the rod of Aaron before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the children of rebellion; that thou mayest make an end of their murmurings against me, that they die not. 11 Thus did Moses: as Jehovah commanded him, so did he.

12 And the children of Israel spake unto Moses, saying, Behold, we perish, we are undone, we are all undone. 13 Every one that cometh near, that cometh near unto the tabernacle of Jehovah, dieth: shall we perish all of us?

1 Domnul a vorbit lui Moise și a zis: 2 „Vorbește copiilor lui Israel și ia de la ei un toiag, după casele părinților lor, adică douăsprezece toiege din partea căpeteniilor lor, după casele părinților lor. Să scrii numele fiecăruia pe toiagul lui; 3 și să scrii numele lui Aaron pe toiagul lui Levi, căci va fi câte un toiag de fiecare căpetenie a caselor părinților lor. 4 Să le pui în cortul întâlnirii, înaintea mărturiei, unde Mă*Exod 25:22;29:42,43;30:36. întâlnesc cu voi. 5 Bărbatul pe care-l*Cap. 16:5. voi alege va fi acela al cărui toiag va înflori, și voi pune capăt dinaintea Mea cârtirilor pe care le ridică*Cap. 16:11. împotriva voastră copiii lui Israel." 6 Moise a vorbit copiilor lui Israel, și toate căpeteniile lor i-au dat câte un toiag; fiecare căpetenie câte un toiag, după casele părinților lor, adică douăsprezece toiege. Toiagul lui Aaron era în mijlocul toiegelor lor. 7 Moise a pus toiegele înaintea Domnului, în cortul*Exod 38:21. Cap. 18:2.Fapte 7:44. mărturiei. 8 A doua zi, când a intrat Moise în cortul mărturiei, iată că toiagul lui Aaron, care era pentru casa lui Levi, înverzise, făcuse muguri, înflorise și copsese migdale. 9 Moise a luat dinaintea Domnului toate toiegele și le-a dus tuturor copiilor lui Israel, ca să le vadă și să-și ia fiecare toiagul lui. 10 Domnul a zis lui Moise: „Pune toiagul*Evr. 9:4. Cap. 16:38; 17:5. lui Aaron înapoi înaintea mărturiei și să fie păstrat ca un semn pentru cei răzvrătiți, ca să pui astfel capăt înaintea Mea cârtirilor lor și să nu moară." 11 Moise a făcut așa; a făcut întocmai după porunca pe care i-o dăduse Domnul. 12 Copiii lui Israel au zis lui Moise: „Iată că murim, pierim, pierim cu toții! 13 Oricine*Cap. 1:51,53;18:4,7. se apropie de cortul Domnului moare. Va trebui oare să murim cu toții?"
