1 Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, with Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men: 2 and they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the congregation, called to the assembly, men of renown; 3 and they assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and Jehovah is among them: wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the assembly of Jehovah?

4 And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face: 5 and he spake unto Korah and unto all his company, saying, In the morning Jehovah will show who are his, and who is holy, and will cause him to come near unto him: even him whom he shall choose will he cause to come near unto him. 6 This do: take you censers, Korah, and all his company; 7 and put fire in them, and put incense upon them before Jehovah to-morrow: and it shall be that the man whom Jehovah doth choose, he shall be holy: ye take too much upon you, ye sons of Levi. 8 And Moses said unto Korah, Hear now, ye sons of Levi: 9 seemeth it but a small thing unto you, that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself, to do the service of the tabernacle of Jehovah, and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them; 10 and that he hath brought thee near, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee? and seek ye the priesthood also? 11 Therefore thou and all thy company are gathered together against Jehovah: and Aaron, what is he that ye murmur against him?

12 And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab; and they said, We will not come up: 13 is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, but thou must needs make thyself also a prince over us? 14 Moreover thou hast not brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey, nor given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: wilt thou put out the eyes of these men? we will not come up.

15 And Moses was very wroth, and said unto Jehovah, Respect not thou their offering: I have not taken one ass from them, neither have I hurt one of them. 16 And Moses said unto Korah, Be thou and all thy company before Jehovah, thou, and they, and Aaron, to-morrow: 17 and take ye every man his censer, and put incense upon them, and bring ye before Jehovah every man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; thou also, and Aaron, each his censer. 18 And they took every man his censer, and put fire in them, and laid incense thereon, and stood at the door of the tent of meeting with Moses and Aaron. 19 And Korah assembled all the congregation against them unto the door of the tent of meeting: and the glory of Jehovah appeared unto all the congregation.

20 And Jehovah spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, 21 Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment. 22 And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation? 23 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, 24 Speak unto the congregation, saying, Get you up from about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.

25 And Moses rose up and went unto Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him. 26 And he spake unto the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest ye be consumed in all their sins. 27 So they gat them up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood at the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little ones. 28 And Moses said, Hereby ye shall know that Jehovah hath sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of mine own mind. 29 If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then Jehovah hath not sent me. 30 But if Jehovah make a new thing, and the ground open its mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down alive into Sheol; then ye shall understand that these men have despised Jehovah.

31 And it came to pass, as he made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them; 32 and the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up, and their households, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods. 33 So they, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into Sheol: and the earth closed upon them, and they perished from among the assembly. 34 And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them; for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up. 35 And fire came forth from Jehovah, and devoured the two hundred and fifty men that offered the incense.

36 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, 37 Speak unto Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter thou the fire yonder; for they are holy, 38 even the censers of these sinners against their own lives; and let them be made beaten plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before Jehovah; therefore they are holy; and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel. 39 And Eleazar the priest took the brazen censers, which they that were burnt had offered; and they beat them out for a covering of the altar, 40 to be a memorial unto the children of Israel, to the end that no stranger, that is not of the seed of Aaron, come near to burn incense before Jehovah; that he be not as Korah, and as his company: as Jehovah spake unto him by Moses.

41 But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of Jehovah. 42 And it came to pass, when the congregation was assembled against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tent of meeting: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of Jehovah appeared. 43 And Moses and Aaron came to the front of the tent of meeting. 44 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, 45 Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment. And they fell upon their faces. 46 And Moses said unto Aaron, Take thy censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and lay incense thereon, and carry it quickly unto the congregation, and make atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from Jehovah; the plague is begun. 47 And Aaron took as Moses spake, and ran into the midst of the assembly; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on the incense, and made atonement for the people. 48 And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed. 49 Now they that died by the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, besides them that died about the matter of Korah. 50 And Aaron returned unto Moses unto the door of the tent of meeting: and the plague was stayed.

Cap. 17:5.1 Sam. 2:28.Ps. 105:26. de El; va lăsa să se apropie de El pe acela pe care-l va*Cap. 3:10.Lev. 10:3.Lev. 21:17,18.Ezec. 40:46;44:15,16. alege. 6 Iată ce să faceți. Luați cădelnițe, Core și toată ceata lui. 7 Mâine, puneți foc în ele și puneți tămâie pe el înaintea Domnului. Acela pe care-l va alege Domnul va fi sfânt. Destul, copiii lui Levi!" 8 Moise a zis lui Core: „Ascultați dar, copiii lui Levi! 9 Prea puțin*1 Sam. 18:23.Is. 7:13. lucru este oare pentru voi că Dumnezeul lui Israel v-a ales*Cap. 3:41,45;8:14.Deut. 10:8. din adunarea lui Israel, lăsându-vă să vă apropiați de El, ca să fiți întrebuințați la slujba cortului Domnului și să vă înfățișați înaintea adunării ca să-i slujiți? 10 V-a lăsat să vă apropiați de El, pe tine și pe toți frații tăi, pe copiii lui Levi, și acum mai voiți și preoția! 11 De aceea te aduni tu și ceata ta împotriva Domnului! Căci cine este Aaron*Exod 16:8.1 Cor. 3:5., ca să cârtiți împotriva lui?" 12 Moise a trimis să cheme pe Datan și pe Abiram, fiii lui Eliab. Dar ei au zis: „Nu ne suim. 13 N-ajunge*Vers. 9. că ne-ai scos dintr-o țară unde curge lapte și miere ca să ne faci să murim în pustie, de vrei să mai și*Exod 2:14.Fapte 7:27,35. stăpânești peste noi? 14 Ce bine ne-ai mai dus într-o țară*Exod 3:8. unde curge lapte și miere*Lev. 20:24. și ce bine ne-ai mai dat în stăpânire ogoare și vii! Crezi că poți să iei ochii oamenilor? Nu ne suim!" 15 Moise s-a mâniat foarte tare și a zis Domnului: „Nu căuta*Gen. 4:4,5. la darul lor. Nu le-am luat nici*1 Sam. 12:3.Fapte 20:33.2 Cor. 7:2. măcar un măgar și n-am făcut rău niciunuia din ei." 16 Moise a zis lui Core: „Tu*Vers. 6,7. și toată ceata ta mâine să fiți*1 Sam. 12:3,7. înaintea Domnului, tu și ei, împreună cu Aaron. 17 Luați-vă fiecare cădelnița, puneți tămâie în ea și aduceți fiecare înaintea Domnului cădelnița lui: două sute cincizeci de cădelnițe, tu și Aaron; să vă luați și voi fiecare cădelnița lui." 18 Și-au luat, fiecare, cădelnița, au pus foc în ea, au pus tămâie în foc și au stat la ușa cortului întâlnirii, împreună cu Moise și Aaron. 19 Și Core a chemat toată adunarea împotriva lui Moise și Aaron, la ușa cortului întâlnirii. Atunci, slava*Vers. 42.Exod 16:7,10.Lev. 9:6,23. Cap. 14:10. Domnului s-a arătat întregii adunări. 20 Și Domnul a vorbit lui Moise și lui Aaron și a zis: 21 „Despărțiți-vă*Vers. 45.Gen. 19:17,22.Ier. 51:6.Fapte 2:40.Apoc. 18:4. din mijlocul acestei adunări și-i voi topi într-o*Vers. 45.Exod 32:10;33:5. clipă." 22 Ei au*Vers. 45. Cap. 14:5. căzut cu fețele la pământ și au zis: „Dumnezeule, Dumnezeul duhurilor*Cap. 27:16.Iov 12:10.Ecl. 12:7.Is. 57:16.Zah. 12:1.Evr. 12:9. oricărui trup! Un singur om a păcătuit, și să Te mânii împotriva întregii adunări?" 23 Domnul a vorbit lui Moise și a zis: 24 „Vorbește adunării și spune-i: ‘Dați-vă la o parte din preajma locuinței lui Core, Datan și Abiram!’" 25 Moise s-a sculat și s-a dus la Datan și Abiram; și bătrânii lui Israel au mers după el. 26 A vorbit adunării și a zis: „Depărtați-vă*Gen. 19:12,14.Is. 52:11.2 Cor. 6:17.Apoc. 18:4. de corturile acestor oameni răi și nu vă atingeți de nimic din ce este al lor, ca să nu pieriți odată cu pedepsirea lor pentru toate păcatele lor." 27 Ei s-au depărtat din preajma locuinței lui Core, Datan și Abiram. Datan și Abiram au ieșit afară și au stat la ușa corturilor lor, cu nevestele, copiii și pruncii lor. 28 Moise a zis: „Iată cum*Exod 3:12.Deut. 18:22.Zah. 2:9,11;4:9.Ioan 5:36. veți cunoaște că Domnul m-a trimis să fac toate aceste lucruri și că nu lucrez din*Cap. 24:13.Ier. 23:16.Ezec. 13:17.Ioan 5:30;6:38. capul meu. 29 Dacă oamenii aceștia vor muri cum mor toți oamenii și dacă vor avea aceeași soartă ca toți oamenii, nu m-a trimis Domnul, 30 dar dacă Domnul va face un lucru nemaiauzit*Iov 31:3.Is. 28:21., dacă pământul își va deschide gura ca să-i înghită cu tot ce au, așa încât se vor coborî de*Vers. 33.Ps. 55:15. vii în Locuința morților, atunci veți ști că oamenii aceștia au hulit pe Domnul." 31 Pe când*Cap. 26:10;27:3.Deut. 11:6.Ps. 106:17. isprăvea el de spus toate aceste vorbe, pământul de sub ei s-a despicat în două. 32 Pământul și-a deschis gura și i-a înghițit, pe ei și casele lor, împreună cu toți*Vers. 17. Cap. 26:11.1 Cron. 6:22,37. oamenii lui Core și toate averile lor. 33 Și s-au coborât astfel de vii în Locuința morților, ei și tot ce aveau; pământul i-a acoperit de tot și au pierit din mijlocul adunării. 34 Tot Israelul care era în jurul lor, când au țipat ei, a fugit, căci ziceau: „Să fugim ca să nu ne înghită pământul!" 35 Un foc*Lev. 10:2. Cap. 11:1.Ps. 106:18. Vers. 17. a ieșit de la Domnul și a mistuit pe cei două sute cincizeci de oameni care aduceau tămâia. 36 Domnul a vorbit lui Moise și a zis: 37 „Spune lui Eleazar, fiul preotului Aaron, să scoată cădelnițele din foc și să lepede focul din ele, căci sunt*Lev. 27:28. sfințite. 38 Cu cădelnițele acestor oameni*Prov. 20:2.Hab. 2:10. care au păcătuit și au ispășit păcatul cu viața lor să se facă niște plăci întinse, cu care să se acopere altarul. Fiindcă au fost aduse înaintea Domnului și sunt sfințite, să slujească de aducere aminte*Cap. 17:10;26:10.Ezec. 14:8. copiilor lui Israel." 39 Preotul Eleazar a luat cădelnițele de aramă pe care le aduseseră cei arși și a făcut din ele niște plăci pentru acoperirea altarului. 40 Acesta este un semn de aducere aminte pentru copiii lui Israel, pentru*Cap. 3:10.2 Cron. 26:18. ca niciun străin care nu este din neamul lui Aaron să nu se apropie să aducă tămâie înaintea Domnului și să nu i se întâmple ca lui Core și cetei lui, după cum spusese Domnul prin Moise.

41 A doua zi, toată adunarea*Cap. 14:2.Ps. 106:25. copiilor lui Israel a cârtit împotriva lui Moise și împotriva lui Aaron, zicând: „Voi ați omorât pe poporul Domnului!" 42 Pe când se strângea adunarea împotriva lui Moise și împotriva lui Aaron și pe când își îndreptau privirile spre cortul întâlnirii, iată că l-a acoperit*Exod 40:34. norul și s-a arătat slava Domnului. 43 Atunci, Moise și Aaron*Vers. 19. Cap. 20:6. au venit înaintea cortului întâlnirii. 44 Și Domnul a vorbit lui Moise și a zis: 45 „Dați-vă*Vers. 21,24. la o parte din mijlocul acestei adunări și-i voi topi într-o clipă!" Ei*Vers. 22. Cap. 20:6. au căzut cu fețele la pământ; 46 și Moise a zis lui Aaron: „Ia cădelnița, pune foc în ea de pe altar, pune tămâie în ea, du-te repede la adunare și fă ispășire pentru ei, căci a*Lev. 10:6. Cap. 1:53;8:19;11:33;18:5.1 Cron. 27:24.Ps. 106:29. izbucnit mânia Domnului și a început urgia." 47 Aaron a luat cădelnița, cum zisese Moise, și a alergat în mijlocul adunării și iată că începuse urgia printre popor. El a tămâiat și a făcut ispășire pentru norod. 48 S-a așezat între cei morți și între cei vii, și urgia a încetat. 49 Paisprezece mii șapte sute de inși au murit de urgia aceasta, afară de cei ce muriseră din pricina lui Core. 50 Aaron s-a întors la Moise, la ușa cortului întâlnirii. Urgia încetase.
