1 And the heads of the fathers’ houses of the family of the children of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of the sons of Joseph, came near, and spake before Moses, and before the princes, the heads of the fathers’ houses of the children of Israel: 2 and they said, Jehovah commanded my lord to give the land for inheritance by lot to the children of Israel: and my lord was commanded by Jehovah to give the inheritance of Zelophehad our brother unto his daughters. 3 And if they be married to any of the sons of the other tribes of the children of Israel, then will their inheritance be taken away from the inheritance of our fathers, and will be added to the inheritance of the tribe whereunto they shall belong: so will it be taken away from the lot of our inheritance. 4 And when the jubilee of the children of Israel shall be, then will their inheritance be added unto the inheritance of the tribe whereunto they shall belong: so will their inheritance be taken away from the inheritance of the tribe of our fathers.

5 And Moses commanded the children of Israel according to the word of Jehovah, saying, The tribe of the sons of Joseph speaketh right. 6 This is the thing which Jehovah doth command concerning the daughters of Zelophehad, saying, Let them be married to whom they think best; only into the family of the tribe of their father shall they be married. 7 So shall no inheritance of the children of Israel remove from tribe to tribe; for the children of Israel shall cleave every one to the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers. 8 And every daughter, that possesseth an inheritance in any tribe of the children of Israel, shall be wife unto one of the family of the tribe of her father, that the children of Israel may possess every man the inheritance of his fathers. 9 So shall no inheritance remove from one tribe to another tribe; for the tribes of the children of Israel shall cleave every one to his own inheritance.

10 Even as Jehovah commanded Moses, so did the daughters of Zelophehad: 11 for Mahlah, Tirzah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Noah, the daughters of Zelophehad, were married unto their father’s brothers’ sons. 12 They were married into the families of the sons of Manasseh the son of Joseph; and their inheritance remained in the tribe of the family of their father.

13 These are the commandments and the ordinances which Jehovah commanded by Moses unto the children of Israel in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho.

Galaad, fiul lui Machir, fiul lui Manase, dintre familiile fiilor lui Iosif, s-au apropiat și au vorbit înaintea lui Moise și înaintea mai-marilor peste casele părintești ale copiilor lui Israel. 2 Ei au zis: „Domnule, ție ți-a poruncit Domnul*Cap. 26:55;33:54.Ios. 17:3. să dai copiilor lui Israel țara ca moștenire prin sorți. Tu, domnule*Cap. 27:1,7.Ios. 17:3,4., ai primit, de asemenea, poruncă de la Domnul ca moștenirea fratelui nostru Țelofhad s-o dai fetelor lui. 3 Dar, dacă ele se mărită după unul din fiii altei seminții a copiilor lui Israel, moștenirea lor va fi ștearsă din moștenirea părinților noștri și adăugată la a seminției din care vor face parte și, astfel, moștenirea care ne-a*Lev. 25:10. căzut nouă la sorți se va micșora. 4 Și când va veni anul de veselie pentru copiii lui Israel, moștenirea lor va rămâne adăugată la a seminției din care vor face parte și va fi ștearsă astfel din moștenirea seminției părinților noștri." 5 Moise a poruncit copiilor lui Israel din partea Domnului și a zis: „Seminția fiilor lui Iosif are*Cap. 27:7. dreptate. 6 Iată ce poruncește Domnul cu privire la fetele lui Țelofhad: să se mărite după cine vor vrea, numai să se mărite*Vers. 12. într-o familie din seminția părinților lor. 7 Nicio moștenire a copiilor lui Israel să nu treacă de la o seminție la alta, ci fiecare din copiii lui Israel să se țină*1 Împ. 21:3. lipit de moștenirea seminției părinților lui. 8 Și orice fată*1 Cron. 23:22. care are o moștenire în semințiile copiilor lui Israel să se mărite după cineva dintr-o familie din seminția tatălui ei, pentru ca fiecare din copiii lui Israel să-și aibă moștenirea părinților săi. 9 Nicio moștenire să nu treacă de la o seminție la alta, ci semințiile copiilor lui Israel să se țină fiecare de moștenirea sa." 10 Fetele lui Țelofhad au făcut întocmai după porunca pe care o dăduse lui Moise Domnul. 11 Mahla*Cap. 27:1., Tirța, Hogla, Milca și Noa, fetele lui Țelofhad, s-au măritat după fiii unchilor lor; 12 s-au măritat în familiile fiilor lui Manase, fiul lui Iosif, și moștenirea lor a rămas în seminția familiei tatălui lor. 13 Acestea sunt poruncile și legile pe care le-a dat Domnul prin Moise copiilor lui Israel în câmpia*Cap. 26:3;33:50. Moabului, lângă Iordan, în fața Ierihonului.
