1 Now these are the generations of Aaron and Moses in the day that Jehovah spake with Moses in mount Sinai. 2 And these are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the first-born, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. 3 These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the priests that were anointed, whom he consecrated to minister in the priest’s office. 4 And Nadab and Abihu died before Jehovah, when they offered strange fire before Jehovah, in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children; and Eleazar and Ithamar ministered in the priest’s office in the presence of Aaron their father.

5 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, 6 Bring the tribe of Levi near, and set them before Aaron the priest, that they may minister unto him. 7 And they shall keep his charge, and the charge of the whole congregation before the tent of meeting, to do the service of the tabernacle. 8 And they shall keep all the furniture of the tent of meeting, and the charge of the children of Israel, to do the service of the tabernacle. 9 And thou shalt give the Levites unto Aaron and to his sons: they are wholly given unto him on the behalf of the children of Israel. 10 And thou shalt appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall keep their priesthood: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.

11 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, 12 And I, behold, I have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel instead of all the first-born that openeth the womb among the children of Israel; and the Levites shall be mine: 13 for all the first-born are mine; on the day that I smote all the first-born in the land of Egypt I hallowed unto me all the first-born in Israel, both man and beast; mine they shall be: I am Jehovah.

14 And Jehovah spake unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying, 15 Number the children of Levi by their fathers’ houses, by their families: every male from a month old and upward shalt thou number them. 16 And Moses numbered them according to the word of Jehovah, as he was commanded. 17 And these were the sons of Levi by their names: Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari. 18 And these are the names of the sons of Gershon by their families: Libni and Shimei. 19 And the sons of Kohath by their families: Amram, and Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. 20 And the sons of Merari by their families: Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites according to their fathers’ houses.

21 Of Gershon was the family of the Libnites, and the family of the Shimeites: these are the families of the Gershonites. 22 Those that were numbered of them, according to the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, even those that were numbered of them were seven thousand and five hundred. 23 The families of the Gershonites shall encamp behind the tabernacle westward. 24 And the prince of the fathers’ house of the Gershonites shall be Eliasaph the son of Lael. 25 And the charge of the sons of Gershon in the tent of meeting shall be the tabernacle, and the Tent, the covering thereof, and the screen for the door of the tent of meeting, 26 and the hangings of the court, and the screen for the door of the court, which is by the tabernacle, and by the altar round about, and the cords of it for all the service thereof.

27 And of Kohath was the family of the Amramites, and the family of the Izharites, and the family of the Hebronites, and the family of the Uzzielites: these are the families of the Kohathites. 28 According to the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, there were eight thousand and six hundred, keeping the charge of the sanctuary. 29 The families of the sons of Kohath shall encamp on the side of the tabernacle southward. 30 And the prince of the fathers’ house of the families of the Kohathites shall be Elizaphan the son of Uzziel. 31 And their charge shall be the ark, and the table, and the candlestick, and the altars, and the vessels of the sanctuary wherewith they minister, and the screen, and all the service thereof. 32 And Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest shall be prince of the princes of the Levites, and have the oversight of them that keep the charge of the sanctuary.

33 Of Merari was the family of the Mahlites, and the family of the Mushites: these are the families of Merari. 34 And those that were numbered of them, according to the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, were six thousand and two hundred. 35 And the prince of the fathers’ house of the families of Merari was Zuriel the son of Abihail: they shall encamp on the side of the tabernacle northward. 36 And the appointed charge of the sons of Merari shall be the boards of the tabernacle, and the bars thereof, and the pillars thereof, and the sockets thereof, and all the instruments thereof, and all the service thereof, 37 and the pillars of the court round about, and their sockets, and their pins, and their cords.

38 And those that encamp before the tabernacle eastward, before the tent of meeting toward the sunrising, shall be Moses, and Aaron and his sons, keeping the charge of the sanctuary for the charge of the children of Israel; and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death. 39 All that were numbered of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron numbered at the commandment of Jehovah, by their families, all the males from a month old and upward, were twenty and two thousand.

40 And Jehovah said unto Moses, Number all the first-born males of the children of Israel from a month old and upward, and take the number of their names. 41 And thou shalt take the Levites for me (I am Jehovah) instead of all the first-born among the children of Israel; and the cattle of the Levites instead of all the firstlings among the cattle of the children of Israel. 42 And Moses numbered, as Jehovah commanded him, all the first-born among the children of Israel. 43 And all the first-born males according to the number of names, from a month old and upward, of those that were numbered of them, were twenty and two thousand two hundred and threescore and thirteen.

44 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, 45 Take the Levites instead of all the first-born among the children of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of their cattle; and the Levites shall be mine: I am Jehovah. 46 And for the redemption of the two hundred and threescore and thirteen of the first-born of the children of Israel, that are over and above the number of the Levites, 47 thou shalt take five shekels apiece by the poll; after the shekel of the sanctuary shalt thou take them (the shekel is twenty gerahs): 48 and thou shalt give the money, wherewith the odd number of them is redeemed, unto Aaron and to his sons. 49 And Moses took the redemption-money from them that were over and above them that were redeemed by the Levites; 50 from the first-born of the children of Israel took he the money, a thousand three hundred and threescore and five shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary: 51 and Moses gave the redemption-money unto Aaron and to his sons, according to the word of Jehovah, as Jehovah commanded Moses.

5 Domnul a vorbit lui Moise și a zis: 6 „Apropie*Cap. 8:6;18:2. seminția lui Levi și pune-o înaintea preotului Aaron, ca să fie în slujba lui. 7 Ei să aibă grijă de tot ce este dat în paza lui și de tot ce este poruncit întregii adunări, înaintea cortului întâlnirii: să facă slujba*Cap. 1:50;8:11,15,24,26. cortului. 8 Să*Cap. 8:19;18:6. aibă grijă de toate uneltele cortului întâlnirii și de tot ce este poruncit copiilor lui Israel: ei să facă slujba cortului. 9 Să dai pe leviți lui Aaron și fiilor lui; ei să-i fie dați lui în totul, din partea copiilor lui Israel. 10 Pe Aaron și pe fiii lui să-i pui să*Cap. 18:7. păzească slujba preoției lor, iar străinul*Vers. 38. Cap. 1:51;16:40. care se va apropia să fie pedepsit cu moartea." 11 Domnul a vorbit lui Moise și a zis: 12 „Iată*Vers. 41. Cap. 8:16;18:6. că am luat pe leviți din mijlocul copiilor lui Israel, în locul tuturor întâilor născuți care se nasc întâi dintre copiii lui Israel, și leviții vor fi ai Mei. 13 Căci*Exod 13:2.Lev. 27:26. Cap. 8:16.Luca 2:23. orice întâi născut este al Meu. În ziua*Exod 13:12,15. Cap. 8:17. când am lovit pe toți întâii născuți din țara Egiptului, Mi-am închinat Mie pe toți întâii născuți din Israel, atât din oameni, cât și din dobitoace: ei vor fi ai Mei. Eu sunt Domnul."

14 Domnul a vorbit lui Moise în pustia Sinai și a zis: 15 „Fă numărătoarea copiilor lui Levi după casele părinților lor, după familiile lor, și anume fă numărătoarea tuturor celor de parte bărbătească*Vers. 39. Cap. 26:62. de la vârsta de o lună în sus." 16 Moise le-a făcut numărătoarea după porunca Domnului, întocmai cum poruncise. 17 Iată*Gen. 46:11.Exod 6:16. Cap. 26:57.1 Cron. 6:1,16;23:6. care sunt fiii lui Levi, după numele lor: Gherșon, Chehat și Merari. 18 Iată numele fiilor lui Gherșon, după familiile lor: Libni și*Exod 6:17. Șimei. 19 Iată fiii lui Chehat, după familiile lor: Amram*Exod 6:18., Ițehar, Hebron și Uziel; 20 și fiii lui*Exod 6:19. Merari, după familiile lor: Mahli și Muși. Acestea sunt familiile lui Levi, după casele părinților lor. 21 Din Gherșon se coboară familia lui Libni și familia lui Șimei, alcătuind familiile gherșoniților. 22 Cei ieșiți la numărătoare, când au numărat pe toți bărbații de la vârsta de o lună în sus, au fost șapte mii cinci sute. 23 Familiile gherșoniților tăbărau înapoia cortului, la apus. 24 Căpetenia casei părintești a gherșoniților era Elisaf, fiul lui Lael. 25 În ce privește cortul întâlnirii, în grija fiilor lui*Cap. 4:24-26. Gherșon erau date: cortul*Exod 25:9. și acoperișul*Exod 26:1. cortului, învelitoarea*Exod 26:7,14. acoperișului cortului și perdeaua*Exod 26:36. de la ușa cortului întâlnirii; 26 apoi pânzele curții*Exod 27:9. și perdeaua*Exod 27:16. de la poarta curții cortului de jur împrejurul cortului și altarului și toate funiile*Exod 35:18. pentru slujba cortului. 27 Din Chehat*1 Cron. 26:23. se coboară familia amramiților, familia ițehariților, familia hebroniților și familia uzieliților, alcătuind familiile chehatiților. 28 Numărând pe toți bărbații de la vârsta de o lună în sus, s-au găsit opt mii șase sute de bărbați însărcinați cu îngrijirea Sfântului Locaș. 29 Familiile*Cap. 1:53. fiilor lui Chehat tăbărau în partea de miazăzi a cortului. 30 Căpetenia casei părintești a familiilor chehatiților era Elițafan, fiul lui Uziel. 31 În grija*Cap. 4:15. lor au dat chivotul*Exod 25:10., masa*Exod 25:23., sfeșnicul*Exod 25:31., altarele*Exod 27:1;30:1., uneltele Sfântului Locaș, cu care își făceau slujba, perdeaua*Exod 26:32. dinăuntru și tot ce ține de ea. 32 Căpetenia căpeteniilor leviților era Eleazar, fiul preotului Aaron; el avea privegherea asupra celor însărcinați să îngrijească de Sfântul Locaș. 33 Din Merari se coboară familia lui Mahli și familia lui Muși, alcătuind familiile merariților. 34 Cei ieșiți la numărătoare, când au numărat pe toți bărbații de la vârsta de o lună în sus, au fost șase mii două sute. 35 Căpetenia casei părintești a familiilor lui Merari era Țuriel, fiul lui Abihail. Ei tăbărau*Cap. 1:53. în partea de miazănoapte a cortului. 36 În paza*Cap. 4:31,32. și grija fiilor lui Merari au dat: scândurile cortului, drugii, stâlpii și picioarele lor, toate uneltele și tot ce ține de ele; 37 apoi stâlpii curții de jur împrejur, picioarele lor, țărușii lor și funiile lor. 38 Moise, Aaron și fiii lui tăbărau*Cap. 1:53. înaintea cortului, la răsărit, înaintea cortului întâlnirii, spre răsăritul soarelui; ei aveau să îndeplinească la Sfântul Locaș*Cap. 18:5. tot ce fusese*Vers. 7,8. poruncit copiilor lui Israel; iar străinul*Vers. 10. care se va apropia să fie pedepsit cu moartea. 39 Toți leviții*Cap. 26:62. a căror numărătoare au făcut-o Moise și Aaron după porunca Domnului, după familiile lor, toți bărbații, de la vârsta de o lună în sus, au fost douăzeci și două de mii.

40 Domnul a zis lui Moise: „Fă numărătoarea*Vers. 15. tuturor întâilor născuți de parte bărbătească dintre copiii lui Israel, de la vârsta de o lună în sus, și numără-i după numele lor. 41 Să*Vers. 12,45. iei pe leviți pentru Mine, Domnul, în locul tuturor întâilor născuți din copiii lui Israel și vitele leviților în locul tuturor întâilor născuți din vitele copiilor lui Israel!" 42 Moise a făcut numărătoarea tuturor întâilor născuți dintre copiii lui Israel, după porunca pe care i-o dăduse Domnul. 43 Toți întâii născuți de parte bărbătească, a căror numărătoare au făcut-o, numărându-le numele, de la vârsta de o lună în sus, au fost douăzeci și două de mii două sute șaptezeci și trei. 44 Domnul a vorbit lui Moise și a zis: 45 „Ia*Vers. 12,41. pe leviți în locul tuturor întâilor născuți din copiii lui Israel și vitele leviților în locul vitelor lor; și leviții vor fi ai Mei. Eu sunt Domnul. 46 Pentru răscumpărarea*Exod 13:13. Cap. 18:15. celor două sute șaptezeci și trei care*Vers. 39,43. trec peste numărul leviților, dintre întâii născuți ai copiilor lui Israel, 47 să iei câte*Lev. 27:6. Cap. 18:16. cinci sicli de cap, după siclul Sfântului Locaș, care este de douăzeci de ghere*Exod 30:13.Lev. 27:25. Cap. 18:16.Ezec. 45:12.. 48 Să dai argintul acesta lui Aaron și fiilor lui pentru răscumpărarea celor ce trec peste numărul leviților." 49 Moise a luat argintul pentru răscumpărarea celor ce treceau peste numărul celor răscumpărați de leviți; 50 a luat argintul întâilor născuți din copiii lui Israel: o mie trei*Vers. 46,47. sute șaizeci și cinci de sicli, după siclul Sfântului Locaș. 51 Și Moise a dat*Vers. 48. argintul de răscumpărare lui Aaron și fiilor lui, după porunca Domnului, cum poruncise lui Moise Domnul.
