1 Israel is a luxuriant vine, that putteth forth his fruit: according to the abundance of his fruit he hath multiplied his altars; according to the goodness of their land they have made goodly pillars. 2 Their heart is divided; now shall they be found guilty: he will smite their altars, he will destroy their pillars. 3 Surely now shall they say, We have no king; for we fear not Jehovah; and the king, what can he do for us?

4 They speak vain words, swearing falsely in making covenants: therefore judgment springeth up as hemlock in the furrows of the field. 5 The inhabitants of Samaria shall be in terror for the calves of Beth-aven; for the people thereof shall mourn over it, and the priests thereof that rejoiced over it, for the glory thereof, because it is departed from it. 6 It also shall be carried unto Assyria for a present to king Jareb: Ephraim shall receive shame, and Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel. 7 As for Samaria, her king is cut off, as foam upon the water. 8 The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.

9 O Israel, thou hast sinned from the days of Gibeah: there they stood; the battle against the children of iniquity doth not overtake them in Gibeah. 10 When it is my desire, I will chastise them; and the peoples shall be gathered against them, when they are bound to their two transgressions. 11 And Ephraim is a heifer that is taught, that loveth to tread out the grain; but I have passed over upon her fair neck: I will set a rider on Ephraim; Judah shall plow, Jacob shall break his clods.

12 Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap according to kindness; break up your fallow ground; for it is time to seek Jehovah, till he come and rain righteousness upon you. 13 Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies; for thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men. 14 Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be destroyed, as Shalman destroyed Beth-arbel in the day of battle: the mother was dashed in pieces with her children. 15 So shall Beth-el do unto you because of your great wickedness: at daybreak shall the king of Israel be utterly cut off.

Cu cât roadele sale erau mai multe, cu atât mai multe altare*Cap. 8:11;12:11. a zidit; cu cât îi propășea țara, cu atât înfrumuseța stâlpii*Cap. 8:4. idolești. 2 Inima lor este împărțită*1 Împ. 18:21.Mat. 6:24., de aceea vor fi pedepsiți. Domnul le va surpa altarele, le va nimici stâlpii idolești. 3 Și curând*Cap. 3:4;11:5.Mica 4:9. Vers. 7. vor zice: „N-avem un adevărat împărat, căci nu ne-am temut de Domnul, și împăratul pe care-l avem ce ar putea face el pentru noi?" 4 Ei rostesc vorbe deșarte, jurăminte mincinoase când încheie un legământ, de aceea pedeapsa va încolți*Deut. 29:18.Amos 5:7;6:12.Fapte 8:23.Evr. 12:15. ca o buruiană otrăvitoare din brazdele câmpiei! 5 Locuitorii Samariei se vor uimi de vițeii*1 Împ. 12:28,29. Cap. 8:5,6. din Bet-Aven*Cap. 4:15.; poporul va jeli pe idol și preoții lui vor tremura pentru el, pentru slava*1 Sam. 4:21,22. Cap. 8:11. lui care va pieri din mijlocul lor. 6 Da, el însuși va fi dus în Asiria ca dar împăratului*Cap. 5:13. Iareb. Rușinea va cuprinde pe Efraim și lui Israel îi va fi rușine de planurile*Cap. 11:6. sale. 7 S-au dus Samaria*Vers. 3,15. și împăratul ei, ca o țăpligă pe fața apelor. 8 Înălțimile*Cap. 4:15. din Bet-Aven, unde a păcătuit*Deut. 9:21.1 Împ. 12:30. Israel, vor fi nimicite; spini*Cap. 9:6. și mărăcini vor crește pe altarele lor. Și*Is. 2:19.Luca 23:30.Apoc. 6:16;9:6. vor zice munților: „Acoperiți-ne!" și dealurilor: „Cădeți peste noi!" 9 „Din zilele Ghibei ai păcătuit, Israele*Cap. 9:9.! Acolo au stat ei, pentru ca războiul*Jud. 20:1. făcut împotriva celor răi să nu-i apuce la Ghibea. 10 Îi voi pedepsi când voi vrea*Deut. 28:63. și se vor strânge*Ier. 16:16.Ezec. 23:46,47. Cap. 8:10. popoare împotriva lor când îi voi pedepsi pentru îndoita lor nelegiuire! 11 Efraim este o mânzată*Ier. 50:11.Mica 4:13. învățată la jug, căreia îi place să treiere grâul și i-am cruțat gâtul său cel frumos, dar acum voi înjuga pe Efraim, Iuda va ara și Iacov îi va grăpa." 12 Semănați*Prov. 11:18. potrivit cu neprihănirea, și veți secera potrivit cu îndurarea. Desțeleniți-vă*Ier. 4:3. un ogor nou! Este vremea să căutați pe Domnul, ca să vină și să vă plouă mântuire. 13 Ați*Iov 4:8.Prov. 22:8. Cap. 8:7.Gal. 6:7,8. arat răul, ați secerat nelegiuirea și ați mâncat rodul minciunii. Căci te-ai încrezut în carele tale de luptă, în numărul oamenilor tăi viteji. 14 De aceea*Cap. 13:16. se va stârni o zarvă împotriva poporului tău și toate cetățuile tale vor fi nimicite, cum a nimicit în luptă Șalman-Bet-Arbel*2 Împ. 18:34;19:13., când mama*Cap. 13:16. a fost zdrobită împreună cu copiii ei. 15 Iată ce vă va aduce Betel din pricina răutății voastre peste măsură de mari. În revărsatul zorilor, se va isprăvi*Vers. 7. cu împăratul lui Israel!
