1 A wise son heareth his father’s instruction;

But a scoffer heareth not rebuke.

2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth;

But the soul of the treacherous shall eat violence.

3 He that guardeth his mouth keepeth his life;

But he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

4 The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing;

But the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

5 A righteous man hateth lying;

But a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.

6 Righteousness guardeth him that is upright in the way;

But wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

7 There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing:

There is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great wealth.

8 The ransom of a man’s life is his riches;

But the poor heareth no threatening.

9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth;

But the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

10 By pride cometh only contention;

But with the well-advised is wisdom.

11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished;

But he that gathereth by labor shall have increase.

12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick;

But when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

13 Whoso despiseth the word bringeth destruction on himself;

But he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life,

That one may depart from the snares of death.

15 Good understanding giveth favor;

But the way of the transgressor is hard.

16 Every prudent man worketh with knowledge;

But a fool flaunteth his folly.

17 A wicked messenger falleth into evil;

But a faithful ambassador is health.

18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth correction;

But he that regardeth reproof shall be honored.

19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul;

But it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil.

20 Walk with wise men, and thou shalt be wise;

But the companion of fools shall smart for it.

21 Evil pursueth sinners;

But the righteous shall be recompensed with good.

22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children;

And the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous.

23 Much food is in the tillage of the poor;

But there is that is destroyed by reason of injustice.

24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son;

But he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul;

But the belly of the wicked shall want.

dar cei stricați au parte de silnicie.

3 Cine-și*Ps. 39:1. Cap. 21:23.Iac. 3:2. păzește gura își păzește sufletul;

cine-și deschide buzele mari aleargă spre pieirea lui.

4 Leneșul*Cap. 10:4. dorește mult, și totuși n-are nimic,

dar cei harnici se satură.

5 Cel neprihănit urăște cuvintele mincinoase,

dar cel rău se face urât și se acoperă de rușine.

6 Neprihănirea*Cap. 11:3,5,6. păzește pe cel nevinovat,

dar răutatea aduce pierzarea păcătosului.

7 Unul*Cap. 12:9. face pe bogatul, și n-are nimic,

altul face pe săracul, și are totuși mari avuții.

8 Omul cu bogăția lui își răscumpără viața,

dar săracul n-ascultă mustrarea.

9 Lumina*Iov 18:5,6;21:17. Cap. 24:20. celor neprihăniți arde voioasă,

dar candela celor răi se stinge.

10 Prin mândrie se ațâță numai certuri,

dar înțelepciunea este cu cel ce ascultă sfaturile.

11 Bogăția*Cap. 10:2;20:21. câștigată fără trudă scade,

dar ce se strânge încetul cu încetul crește.

12 O nădejde amânată îmbolnăvește inima,

dar o dorință*Vers. 19. împlinită este un pom de viață.

13 Cine nesocotește*2 Cron. 36:16. Cuvântul Domnului se pierde,

dar cine se teme de poruncă este răsplătit.

14 Învățătura*Cap. 10:11;14:27;16:22. înțeleptului este un izvor de viață,

ca să abată pe om din cursele*2 Sam. 22:6. morții.

15 O minte sănătoasă câștigă bunăvoință,

dar calea celor stricați este pietroasă.

16 Orice*Cap. 12:23;15:2. om chibzuit lucrează cu cunoștință,

dar nebunul își dă la iveală nebunia.

17 Un sol rău cade în nenorocire,

dar un sol credincios*Cap. 25:13. aduce tămăduire.

18 Sărăcia și rușinea sunt partea celui ce leapădă certarea,

dar cel*Cap. 15:5,31. ce ia seama la mustrare este pus în cinste.

19 Împlinirea unei dorințe*Vers. 12. este dulce sufletului,

dar celor nebuni le este urât să se lase de rău.

20 Cine umblă cu înțelepții se face înțelept,

dar cui îi place să se însoțească cu nebunii o duce rău.

21 Nenorocirea urmărește pe cei*Ps. 32:10. ce păcătuiesc,

dar cei neprihăniți vor fi răsplătiți cu fericire.

22 Omul de bine lasă moștenitori pe copiii copiilor săi,

dar bogățiile*Iov 27:16,17. Cap. 28:8.Ecl. 2:26. păcătosului sunt păstrate pentru cel neprihănit.

23 Ogorul pe care-l desțelenește săracul dă o hrană*Cap. 12:11. îmbelșugată,

dar mulți pier din pricina nedreptății lor.

24 Cine*Cap. 19:18;22:15;23:13;29:15,17. cruță nuiaua urăște pe fiul său,

dar cine-l iubește îl pedepsește îndată.

25 Cel*Ps. 34:10;37:3. neprihănit mănâncă până se satură,

dar pântecele celor răi duce lipsă.
