1 Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity

Than he that is perverse in his lips and is a fool.

2 Also, that the soul be without knowledge is not good;

And he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.

3 The foolishness of man subverteth his way;

And his heart fretteth against Jehovah.

4 Wealth addeth many friends;

But the poor is separated from his friend.

5 A false witness shall not be unpunished;

And he that uttereth lies shall not escape.

6 Many will entreat the favor of the liberal man;

And every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.

7 All the brethren of the poor do hate him:

How much more do his friends go far from him!

He pursueth them with words, but they are gone.

8 He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul:

He that keepeth understanding shall find good.

9 A false witness shall not be unpunished;

And he that uttereth lies shall perish.

10 Delicate living is not seemly for a fool;

Much less for a servant to have rule over princes.

11 The discretion of a man maketh him slow to anger;

And it is his glory to pass over a transgression.

12 The king’s wrath is as the roaring of a lion;

But his favor is as dew upon the grass.

13 A foolish son is the calamity of his father;

And the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.

14 House and riches are an inheritance from fathers;

But a prudent wife is from Jehovah.

15 Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep;

And the idle soul shall suffer hunger.

16 He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his soul;

But he that is careless of his ways shall die.

17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto Jehovah,

And his good deed will he pay him again.

18 Chasten thy son, seeing there is hope;

And set not thy heart on his destruction.

19 A man of great wrath shall bear the penalty;

For if thou deliver him, thou must do it yet again.

20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction,

That thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.

21 There are many devices in a man’s heart;

But the counsel of Jehovah, that shall stand.

22 That which maketh a man to be desired is his kindness;

And a poor man is better than a liar.

23 The fear of Jehovah tendeth to life;

And he that hath it shall abide satisfied;

He shall not be visited with evil.

24 The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish,

And will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.

25 Smite a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence;

And reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.

26 He that doeth violence to his father, and chaseth away his mother,

Is a son that causeth shame and bringeth reproach.

27 Cease, my son, to hear instruction

Only to err from the words of knowledge.

28 A worthless witness mocketh at justice;

And the mouth of the wicked swalloweth iniquity.

29 Judgments are prepared for scoffers,

And stripes for the back of fools.

1 Mai mult prețuiește*Cap. 28:6. săracul care umblă în neprihănirea lui

decât un bogat cu buze stricate și nebun.

2 Lipsa de știință este o pagubă pentru cineva

și cine aleargă neghiobește înainte o nimerește rău.

3 Nebunia omului îi sucește calea

și apoi cârtește împotriva Domnului cu inima*Ps. 37:7. lui.

4 Bogăția*Cap. 14:20. aduce un mare număr de prieteni,

dar săracul este părăsit de prietenul lui.

5 Martorul*Vers. 9.Exod 23:1.Deut. 19:16,19. Cap. 6:19; 21:28. mincinos nu rămâne nepedepsit

și cel ce spune minciuni nu va scăpa.

6 Omul darnic are mulți*Cap. 29:26. lingușitori

și toți*Cap. 17:8;18:16;21:14. sunt prieteni cu cel ce dă daruri.

7 Toți*Cap. 14:20. frații săracului îl urăsc;

cu cât mai mult se*Ps. 38:11. depărtează prietenii lui de el!

El se îndreaptă spre ei cu vorbe rugătoare, dar ei se fac nevăzuți.

8 Cine capătă înțelepciune își iubește sufletul;

cine păstrează priceperea găsește*Cap. 16:20. fericirea.

9 Martorul*Vers. 5. mincinos nu rămâne nepedepsit

și cel ce spune minciuni va pieri.

10 Unui nebun nu-i șade bine să trăiască în desfătări,

cu atât mai puțin unui rob*Cap. 30:22.Ecl. 10:6,7., să stăpânească peste voievozi.

11 Înțelepciunea*Cap. 14:29.Iac. 1:19. face pe om răbdător

și*Cap. 16:32. este o cinste pentru el să uite greșelile.

12 Mânia împăratului este ca*Cap. 16:14,15;20:2;28:15.Osea 14:5. răcnetul unui leu

și bunăvoința lui este ca roua pe iarbă.

13 Un fiu*Cap. 10:1;15:20;17:21,25. nebun este o nenorocire pentru tatăl său,

și*Cap. 21:9,19;27:15. o nevastă gâlcevitoare este ca o streașină de pe care picură întruna.

14 Casa*2 Cor. 12:14. și averea le moștenim de la părinți,

dar o*Cap. 18:22. nevastă pricepută este un dar de la Domnul.

15 Lenea*Cap. 6:9. te cufundă într-un somn adânc

și sufletul molatic suferă*Cap. 10:4;20:13;23:21. de foame.

16 Cine*Luca 10:28;11:28. păzește porunca își păzește sufletul;

cine nu veghează asupra căii sale va muri.

17 Cine*Cap. 28:27.Ecl. 11:1.Mat. 10:42;25:40.2 Cor. 9:6-8.Evr. 6:10. are milă de sărac împrumută pe Domnul,

și El îi va răsplăti binefacerea.

18 Pedepsește-ți*Cap. 13:24;23:13;29:17. fiul, căci tot mai este nădejde,

dar nu dori să-l omori!

19 Cel pe care-l apucă mânia trebuie să-și ia pedeapsa;

căci, dacă-l scoți din ea, va trebui să mai faci o dată lucrul acesta.

20 Ascultă sfaturile și primește învățătura,

ca să*Ps. 37:37. fii înțelept pe viitor!

21 Omul face multe*Iov 23:13.Ps. 33:10,11. Cap. 16:1,9.Is. 14:26,27;46:10.Fapte 5:39.Evr. 6:17. planuri în inima lui,

dar hotărârea Domnului, aceea se împlinește.

22 Ceea ce face farmecul unui om este bunătatea lui;

și mai mult prețuiește un sărac decât un mincinos.

23 Frica*1 Tim. 4:8. de Domnul duce la viață,

și cel ce o are petrece noaptea sătul,

fără să fie cercetat de nenorocire.

24 Leneșul*Cap. 15:19;26:13,15. își vâră mâna în strachină

și n-o duce înapoi la gură.

25 Lovește*Cap. 21:11. pe batjocoritor și prostul se*Deut. 13:11. va face înțelept;

mustră*Cap. 9:8. pe omul priceput și va înțelege știința!

26 Cine jefuiește pe tatăl său și izgonește pe mama sa

este un fiu*Cap. 17:2. care aduce rușine și ocară.

27 Încetează, fiule, să mai asculți învățătura,

dacă ea te depărtează de învățăturile înțelepte.

28 Un martor stricat își bate joc de dreptate

și gura*Iov 15:16;20:12,13;34:7. celor răi înghite nelegiuirea.

29 Pedepsele sunt pregătite pentru batjocoritori

și loviturile*Cap. 10:13;26:3., pentru spinările nebunilor.
