1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words,

And lay up my commandments with thee;

2 So as to incline thine ear unto wisdom,

And apply thy heart to understanding;

3 Yea, if thou cry after discernment,

And lift up thy voice for understanding;

4 If thou seek her as silver,

And search for her as for hid treasures:

5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of Jehovah,

And find the knowledge of God.

6 For Jehovah giveth wisdom;

Out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding:

7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the upright;

He is a shield to them that walk in integrity;

8 That he may guard the paths of justice,

And preserve the way of his saints.

9 Then shalt thou understand righteousness and justice,

And equity, yea, every good path.

10 For wisdom shall enter into thy heart,

And knowledge shall be pleasant unto thy soul;

11 Discretion shall watch over thee;

Understanding shall keep thee:

12 To deliver thee from the way of evil,

From the men that speak perverse things;

13 Who forsake the paths of uprightness,

To walk in the ways of darkness;

14 Who rejoice to do evil,

And delight in the perverseness of evil;

15 Who are crooked in their ways,

And wayward in their paths:

16 To deliver thee from the strange woman,

Even from the foreigner that flattereth with her words;

17 That forsaketh the friend of her youth,

And forgetteth the covenant of her God:

18 For her house inclineth unto death,

And her paths unto the dead;

19 None that go unto her return again,

Neither do they attain unto the paths of life:

20 That thou mayest walk in the way of good men,

And keep the paths of the righteous.

21 For the upright shall dwell in the land,

And the perfect shall remain in it.

22 But the wicked shall be cut off from the land,

And the treacherous shall be rooted out of it.

1 Fiule, dacă vei primi cuvintele mele,

dacă vei păstra*Cap. 4:21;7:1. cu tine învățăturile mele,

2 dacă vei lua aminte la înțelepciune

și dacă-ți vei pleca inima la pricepere,

3 dacă vei cere înțelepciune

și dacă te vei ruga pentru pricepere,

4 dacă o vei căuta*Cap. 3:14.Mat. 13:44. ca argintul

și vei umbla după ea ca după o comoară,

5 atunci vei înțelege frica de Domnul

și vei găsi cunoștința lui Dumnezeu.

6 Căci*1 Împ. 3:9,12.Iac. 1:5. Domnul dă înțelepciune;

din gura Lui iese cunoștință și pricepere.

7 El dă izbândă celor fără prihană,

dă un scut*Ps. 84:11. Cap. 30:5. celor ce umblă în nevinovăție.

8 Ocrotește cărările neprihănirii

și păzește*1 Sam. 2:9.Ps. 66:9. calea credincioșilor Lui.

9 Atunci vei înțelege dreptatea, judecata,

nepărtinirea, toate căile care duc la bine.

10 Căci înțelepciunea va veni în inima ta

și cunoștința va fi desfătarea sufletului tău;

11 chibzuința*Cap. 6:22. va veghea asupra ta,

priceperea te va păzi,

12 ca să te scape de calea cea rea,

de omul care ține cuvântări stricate,

13 de cei ce părăsesc cărările adevărate,

ca să umble*Ioan 3:19,20. pe drumuri întunecoase,

14 care se bucură*Cap. 10:23.Ier. 11:15. să facă răul

și își pun plăcerea*Rom. 1:32. în răutate,

15 care*Ps. 125:5. umblă pe cărări strâmbe

și apucă pe drumuri sucite;

16 ca să te scape și de nevasta*Cap. 5:20. altuia,

de străina*Cap. 5:3;6:24;7:5. care întrebuințează vorbe ademenitoare,

17 care părăsește*Mal. 2:14,15. pe bărbatul tinereții ei

și uită legământul Dumnezeului ei.

18 Căci casa*Cap. 7:27. ei coboară la moarte

și drumul ei duce la cei morți:

19 niciunul care se duce la ea nu se mai întoarce

și nu mai găsește cărările vieții.

20 De aceea, tu să umbli pe calea oamenilor de bine

și să ții cărările celor neprihăniți!

21 Căci oamenii*Ps. 37:29. fără prihană vor locui țara

și oamenii neîntinați vor rămâne în ea,

22 dar cei răi*Iov 18:17.Ps. 37:28;104:35. vor fi nimiciți din țară

și cei necredincioși vor fi smulși din ea.
