1 My son, forget not my law;

But let thy heart keep my commandments:

2 For length of days, and years of life,

And peace, will they add to thee.

3 Let not kindness and truth forsake thee:

Bind them about thy neck;

Write them upon the tablet of thy heart:

4 So shalt thou find favor and good understanding

In the sight of God and man.

5 Trust in Jehovah with all thy heart,

And lean not upon thine own understanding:

6 In all thy ways acknowledge him,

And he will direct thy paths.

7 Be not wise in thine own eyes;

Fear Jehovah, and depart from evil:

8 It will be health to thy navel,

And marrow to thy bones.

9 Honor Jehovah with thy substance,

And with the first-fruits of all thine increase:

10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty,

And thy vats shall overflow with new wine.

11 My son, despise not the chastening of Jehovah;

Neither be weary of his reproof:

12 For whom Jehovah loveth he reproveth,

Even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

13 Happy is the man that findeth wisdom,

And the man that getteth understanding.

14 For the gaining of it is better than the gaining of silver,

And the profit thereof than fine gold.

15 She is more precious than rubies:

And none of the things thou canst desire are to be compared unto her.

16 Length of days is in her right hand;

In her left hand are riches and honor.

17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness,

And all her paths are peace.

18 She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her:

And happy is every one that retaineth her.

19 Jehovah by wisdom founded the earth;

By understanding he established the heavens.

20 By his knowledge the depths were broken up,

And the skies drop down the dew.

21 My son, let them not depart from thine eyes;

Keep sound wisdom and discretion:

22 So shall they be life unto thy soul,

And grace to thy neck.

23 Then shalt thou walk in thy way securely,

And thy foot shall not stumble.

24 When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid:

Yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.

25 Be not afraid of sudden fear,

Neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh:

26 For Jehovah will be thy confidence,

And will keep thy foot from being taken.

27 Withhold not good from them to whom it is due,

When it is in the power of thy hand to do it.

28 Say not unto thy neighbor, Go, and come again,

And to-morrow I will give;

When thou hast it by thee.

29 Devise not evil against thy neighbor,

Seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.

30 Strive not with a man without cause,

If he have done thee no harm.

31 Envy thou not the man of violence,

And choose none of his ways.

32 For the perverse is an abomination to Jehovah;

But his friendship is with the upright.

33 The curse of Jehovah is in the house of the wicked;

But he blesseth the habitation of the righteous.

34 Surely he scoffeth at the scoffers;

But he giveth grace unto the lowly.

35 The wise shall inherit glory;

But shame shall be the promotion of fools.

3 Să nu te părăsească bunătatea și credincioșia:

leagă-ți-le*Exod 13:9.Deut. 6:8. Cap. 6:21;7:3. la gât,

scrie-le*Ier. 17:1.2 Cor. 3:3. pe tăblița inimii tale!

4 Și, astfel, vei căpăta trecere*Ps. 111:10.1 Sam. 2:26.Luca 2:52.Fapte 2:47.Rom. 14:18. și minte sănătoasă

înaintea lui Dumnezeu și înaintea oamenilor.

5 Încrede-te*Ps. 37:3,5. în Domnul din toată inima ta

și nu*Ier. 9:23. te bizui pe înțelepciunea ta!

6 Recunoaște-L*1 Cron. 28:9. în toate căile tale,

și El îți va netezi*Ier. 10:23. cărările.

7 Nu te socoti singur*Rom. 12:16. înțelept;

teme-te*Iov 1:1. Cap. 16:6. de Domnul și abate-te de la rău!

8 Aceasta va aduce sănătate trupului tău

și răcorire oaselor*Iov 21:24. tale.

9 Cinstește*Exod 22:29;23:19;34:26.Deut. 26:2.Mal. 3:10.Luca 14:13. pe Domnul cu averile tale

și cu cele dintâi roade din tot venitul tău,

10 căci*Deut. 28:8. atunci grânarele îți vor fi pline de belșug

și teascurile tale vor geme de must.

11 Fiule*Iov 5:17.Ps. 94:12.Evr. 12:5,6.Apoc. 3:19., nu disprețui mustrarea Domnului

și nu te mâhni de pedepsele Lui!

12 Căci Domnul mustră pe cine iubește,

ca un părinte*Deut. 8:5. pe copilul pe care-l iubește!

13 Ferice*Cap. 8:34,35. de omul care găsește înțelepciunea

și de omul care capătă pricepere!

14 Căci câștigul*Iov 28:13.Ps. 19:10. Cap. 2:4; 8:11,19; 16:16. pe care-l aduce ea este mai bun decât al argintului,

și venitul adus de ea este mai de preț decât aurul;

15 ea este mai de preț decât mărgăritarele

și toate comorile*Mat. 13:44. tale nu se pot asemui cu ea.

16 În dreapta ei este o viață lungă*Cap. 8:18.1 Tim. 4:8.;

în stânga ei, bogăție și slavă.

17 Căile*Mat. 11:29,30. ei sunt niște căi plăcute

și toate cărările ei sunt niște cărări pașnice.

18 Ea este un pom de*Gen. 2:9;3:22. viață pentru cei ce o apucă,

și cei ce o au sunt fericiți.

19 Prin înțelepciune a întemeiat Domnul*Ps. 104:24;136:5. Cap. 8:27.Ier. 10:12;51:15. pământul

și prin pricepere a întărit El cerurile;

20 prin știința*Gen. 1:9. Lui s-au deschis adâncurile

și strecoară norii*Deut. 33:28.Iov 36:28. roua.

21 Fiule, să nu se depărteze învățăturile acestea de ochii tăi:

păstrează înțelepciunea și chibzuința,

22 căci ele vor fi viața sufletului tău

și podoaba*Cap. 1:9. gâtului tău!

23 Atunci*Ps. 37:24;91:11,12. Cap. 10:9. vei merge cu încredere pe drumul tău,

și piciorul nu ți se va poticni.

24 Când*Lev. 26:6.Ps. 3:5;4:8. te vei culca, vei fi fără teamă,

și când vei dormi, somnul îți va fi dulce.

25 Nu te teme nici de spaimă năprasnică*Ps. 91:5;112:7.,

nici de o năvălire din partea celor răi,

26 căci Domnul va fi nădejdea ta

și El îți va păzi piciorul de cădere.

27 Nu opri o binefacere*Rom. 13:7.Gal. 6:10. celui ce are nevoie de ea,

când poți s-o faci.

28 Nu*Lev. 19:13.Deut. 24:15. zice aproapelui tău: „Du-te și vino iarăși;

îți voi da mâine",

când ai de unde să dai!

29 Nu gândi rău împotriva aproapelui tău,

când locuiește liniștit lângă tine!

30 Nu te certa*Rom. 12:18. fără pricină cu cineva,

când nu ți-a făcut niciun rău!

31 Nu pizmui pe omul asupritor*Ps. 37:1;73:3. Cap. 24:1.

și nu alege niciuna din căile lui!

32 Căci Domnul urăște pe oamenii stricați,

dar este prieten cu cei fără prihană*Ps. 25:14..

33 Blestemul*Lev. 26:14.Ps. 37:22.Zah. 5:4.Mal. 2:2. Domnului este în casa celui rău,

dar locuința celor neprihăniți o binecuvântează*Ps. 1:3..

34 Când are a face cu cei batjocoritori,

Își bate joc de ei,

dar celor smeriți*Iac. 4:6.1 Pet. 3:5. le dă har.

35 Înțelepții vor moșteni slava,

dar partea celor nebuni este rușinea.
