1 Hear, my sons, the instruction of a father,

And attend to know understanding:

2 For I give you good doctrine;

Forsake ye not my law.

3 For I was a son unto my father,

Tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.

4 And he taught me, and said unto me:

Let thy heart retain my words;

Keep my commandments, and live;

5 Get wisdom, get understanding;

Forget not, neither decline from the words of my mouth;

6 Forsake her not, and she will preserve thee;

Love her, and she will keep thee.

7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom;

Yea, with all thy getting get understanding.

8 Exalt her, and she will promote thee;

She will bring thee to honor, when thou dost embrace her.

9 She will give to thy head a chaplet of grace;

A crown of beauty will she deliver to thee.

10 Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings;

And the years of thy life shall be many.

11 I have taught thee in the way of wisdom;

I have led thee in paths of uprightness.

12 When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened;

And if thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

13 Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go:

Keep her; for she is thy life.

14 Enter not into the path of the wicked,

And walk not in the way of evil men.

15 Avoid it, pass not by it;

Turn from it, and pass on.

16 For they sleep not, except they do evil;

And their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.

17 For they eat the bread of wickedness,

And drink the wine of violence.

18 But the path of the righteous is as the dawning light,

That shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

19 The way of the wicked is as darkness:

They know not at what they stumble.

20 My son, attend to my words;

Incline thine ear unto my sayings.

21 Let them not depart from thine eyes;

Keep them in the midst of thy heart.

22 For they are life unto those that find them,

And health to all their flesh.

23 Keep thy heart with all diligence;

For out of it are the issues of life.

24 Put away from thee a wayward mouth,

And perverse lips put far from thee.

25 Let thine eyes look right on,

And let thine eyelids look straight before thee.

26 Make level the path of thy feet,

And let all thy ways be established.

27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left:

Remove thy foot from evil.

1 Ascultați, fiilor*Ps. 34:11. Cap. 1:8., învățătura unui tată

și luați aminte ca să pricepeți,

2 căci eu vă dau sfaturi bune:

nu lepădați învățătura mea!

3 Căci, când eram încă fiu la tatăl meu

și fiu gingaș*1 Cron. 29:1. și singur la mama mea,

4 el*1 Cron. 28:9.Efes. 6:4. mă învăța atunci și-mi zicea:

„Păstrează bine în inima ta cuvintele mele,

păzește*Cap. 7:2. învățăturile mele și vei trăi!

5 Dobândește*Cap. 2:2,3. înțelepciune, dobândește pricepere;

nu uita cuvintele gurii mele și nu te abate de la ele!

6 N-o părăsi, și ea te va păzi;

iubește-o*2 Tes. 2:10., și te va ocroti!

7 Iată*Mat. 13:44.Luca 10:42. începutul înțelepciunii:

dobândește înțelepciunea

și, cu tot ce ai, dobândește priceperea.

8 Înalț-o*1 Sam. 2:30. și ea te va înălța;

ea va fi slava ta dacă o vei îmbrățișa.

9 Ea îți va pune pe cap o cunună plăcută*Cap. 1:9;3:22.,

te va împodobi cu o strălucită cunună împărătească."

10 Ascultă, fiule, primește cuvintele mele

și anii*Cap. 3:2. vieții tale se vor înmulți!

11 Eu îți arăt calea înțelepciunii,

te povățuiesc pe cărările neprihănirii.

12 Când vei umbla, pasul nu-ți*Ps. 18:36. va fi stânjenit

și, când vei alerga*Ps. 91:11,12., nu te vei poticni.

13 Ține învățătura, n-o lăsa din mână;

păstreaz-o, căci ea este viața ta!

14 Nu*Ps. 1:1. Cap. 1:10,15. intra pe cărarea celor răi

și nu umbla pe calea celor nelegiuiți!

15 Ferește-te de ea, nu trece pe ea;

ocolește-o și treci înainte!

16 Căci*Ps. 36:4.Is. 57:20. ei nu dorm dacă n-au făcut răul,

le piere somnul dacă nu fac pe cineva să cadă;

17 căci ei mănâncă pâine nelegiuită

și beau vin stors cu sila.

18 Dar*Mat. 5:14,15.Filip. 2:15. cărarea celor neprihăniți este*2 Sam. 23:4. ca lumina strălucitoare,

a cărei strălucire merge mereu crescând până la miezul zilei.

19 Calea celor răi este ca întunericul*1 Sam. 2:9.Iov 18:5,6.Is. 59:9,10.Ier. 23:12.Ioan 12:35. gros:

ei nu văd de ce se vor poticni.

20 Fiule, ia aminte la cuvintele mele,

pleacă-ți urechea la vorbele mele!

21 Să*Cap. 3:3,21. nu se depărteze cuvintele acestea de ochii tăi,

păstrează-le*Cap. 2:1. în fundul inimii tale!

22 Căci ele sunt viață pentru cei ce le găsesc

și sănătate*Cap. 3:8;12:18. pentru tot trupul lor.

23 Păzește-ți inima mai mult decât orice,

căci din ea ies izvoarele vieții!

24 Izgonește neadevărul din gura ta

și depărtează viclenia de pe buzele tale!

25 Ochii tăi să privească drept

și pleoapele tale să caute drept înaintea ta!

26 Cărarea pe care mergi să fie netedă

și toate căile tale să fie hotărâte:

27 nu te*Deut. 5:32;28:14.Ios. 1:7. abate nici la dreapta, nici la stânga

și ferește-te*Is. 1:16.Rom. 12:9. de rău!
