A Prayer of David.

1 Hear the right, O Jehovah, attend unto my cry;

Give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips.

2 Let my sentence come forth from thy presence;

Let thine eyes look upon equity.

3 Thou hast proved my heart; thou hast visited me in the night;

Thou hast tried me, and findest nothing;

I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.

4 As for the works of men, by the word of thy lips

I have kept me from the ways of the violent.

5 My steps have held fast to thy paths,

My feet have not slipped.

6 I have called upon thee, for thou wilt answer me, O God:

Incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech.

7 Show thy marvellous lovingkindness,

O thou that savest by thy right hand them that take refuge in thee

From those that rise up against them.

8 Keep me as the apple of the eye;

Hide me under the shadow of thy wings,

9 From the wicked that oppress me,

My deadly enemies, that compass me about.

10 They are inclosed in their own fat:

With their mouth they speak proudly.

11 They have now compassed us in our steps;

They set their eyes to cast us down to the earth.

12 He is like a lion that is greedy of his prey,

And as it were a young lion lurking in secret places.

13 Arise, O Jehovah,

Confront him, cast him down:

Deliver my soul from the wicked by thy sword;

14 From men by thy hand, O Jehovah,

From men of the world, whose portion is in this life,

And whose belly thou fillest with thy treasure:

They are satisfied with children,

And leave the rest of their substance to their babes.

15 As for me, I shall behold thy face in righteousness;

I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with beholding thy form.

O rugăciune a lui David

1 Doamne, ascultă-mi pricina nevinovată, ia aminte la strigătele mele,

pleacă urechea la rugăciunea mea, făcută cu buze neprefăcute!

2 Să se arate dreptatea mea înaintea Ta

și să privească ochii Tăi neprihănirea mea!

3 Dacă îmi vei încerca inima, dacă o vei cerceta*Ps. 16:7. noaptea,

dacă mă vei încerca*Iov 23:10.Ps. 26:2;66:10;139:2.Zah. 13:9.Mal. 3:2,3.1 Pet. 1:7., nu vei găsi nimic,

căci ce-mi iese din gură, aceea și gândesc.

4 Cât privește legăturile cu oamenii, eu, după cuvântul buzelor Tale,

mă feresc de calea celor asupritori;

5 pașii mei stau neclintiți*Ps. 119:133. pe cărările Tale

și nu mi se clatină picioarele.

6 Strig*Ps. 116:2. către Tine, căci m-asculți, Dumnezeule!

Pleacă-Ți urechea spre mine, ascultă cuvântul meu!

7 Arată-Ți bunătatea Ta cea minunată*Ps. 31:21., Tu, care scapi pe cei ce caută adăpost

și-i izbăvești de potrivnicii lor prin dreapta Ta!

8 Păzește-mă*Deut. 32:10.Zah. 2:8. ca lumina ochiului,

ocrotește-mă, la umbra*Rut 2:12.Ps. 36:7;57:1;61:4;63:7;91:1,4.Mat. 23:37. aripilor Tale,

9 de cei răi care mă prigonesc,

de vrăjmașii mei de moarte care mă împresoară!

10 Ei își închid*Deut. 32:15.Iov 15:27.Ps. 73:7;119:70. inima,

au cuvinte semețe*1 Sam. 2:3.Ps. 31:18. în gură.

11 Se țin de pașii mei, mă înconjoară*1 Sam. 23:26. chiar,

mă pândesc ca*Ps. 10:8-10. să mă trântească la pământ.

12 Parcă ar fi un leu lacom după pradă,

un pui de leu care stă la pândă în culcușul lui.

13 Scoală-te, Doamne, ieși înaintea vrăjmașului, doboară-l!

Izbăvește-mă de cel rău cu sabia*Is. 10:5. Ta!

14 Scapă-mă de oameni, cu mâna Ta, Doamne, de oamenii lumii acesteia,

care își au partea lor în viața aceasta*Ps. 73:12.Luca 16:25.Iac. 5:5.

și cărora le umpli pântecele cu bunătățile Tale.

Copiii lor sunt sătui

și prisosul lor îl lasă pruncilor lor.

15 Dar eu, în nevinovăția*1 Ioan 3:2. mea, voi vedea Fața Ta:

cum mă voi trezi, mă voi sătura*Ps. 4:6,7;16:11;65:4. de chipul Tău.
