1 I said, I will take heed to my ways,

That I sin not with my tongue:

I will keep my mouth with a bridle,

While the wicked is before me.

2 I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good;

And my sorrow was stirred.

3 My heart was hot within me;

While I was musing the fire burned;

Then spake I with my tongue:

4 Jehovah, make me to know mine end,

And the measure of my days, what it is;

Let me know how frail I am.

5 Behold, thou hast made my days as handbreadths;

And my life-time is as nothing before thee:

Surely every man at his best estate is altogether vanity. [Selah

6 Surely every man walketh in a vain show;

Surely they are disquieted in vain:

He heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them.

7 And now, Lord, what wait I for?

My hope is in thee.

8 Deliver me from all my transgressions:

Make me not the reproach of the foolish.

9 I was dumb, I opened not my mouth;

Because thou didst it.

10 Remove thy stroke away from me:

I am consumed by the blow of thy hand.

11 When thou with rebukes dost correct man for iniquity,

Thou makest his beauty to consume away like a moth:

Surely every man is vanity. [Selah

12 Hear my prayer, O Jehovah, and give ear unto my cry;

Hold not thy peace at my tears:

For I am a stranger with thee,

A sojourner, as all my fathers were.

13 Oh spare me, that I may recover strength,

Before I go hence, and be no more.

1 Ziceam: „Voi veghea*1 Împ. 2:4.2 Împ. 10:31. asupra căilor mele,

ca să nu păcătuiesc cu limba;

îmi voi pune frâu gurii*Ps. 141:3.Iac. 3:2.

cât*Col. 4:5. va sta cel rău înaintea mea."

2 Am stat*Ps. 38:13. mut, în tăcere;

am tăcut, măcar că eram nenorocit,

și totuși durerea mea nu era mai puțin mare.

3 Îmi ardea inima în mine,

un foc*Ier. 20:9. lăuntric mă mistuia,

și atunci mi-a venit cuvântul pe limbă și am zis:

4 „Doamne, spune-mi*Ps. 90:12;119:84. care este sfârșitul vieții mele,

care este măsura zilelor mele,

ca să știu cât de trecător sunt!"

5 Iată că zilele mele sunt cât un lat de mână

și viața*Ps. 90:4. mea este ca o nimica înaintea Ta.

6 Da, omul umblă ca o*1 Cor. 7:31.Iac. 4:14. umbră,

se frământă degeaba,

strânge*Iov 27:17.Ecl. 2:18,21,26;5:14.Luca 12:20,21. la comori și nu știe cine le va lua.

7 Acum, Doamne, ce mai pot nădăjdui eu?

În Tine îmi este nădejdea*Ps. 38:15..

8 Izbăvește-mă de toate fărădelegile mele!

Nu mă face de ocara*Ps. 44:13;79:4. celui nebun!

9 Stau*Lev. 10:3.Iov 40:4,5.Ps. 38:13. mut, nu deschid gura,

căci Tu*2 Sam. 16:10.Iov 2:10. lucrezi.

10 Abate-Ți*Iov 9:34;13:21. loviturile de la mine!

Îmi iese sufletul sub loviturile mâinii Tale.

11 Tu pedepsești pe om și-l lovești pentru fărădelegea lui;

îi prăpădești, ca molia*Iov 4:19;13:28.Is. 50:9.Osea 5:12., ce are el mai scump.

Da*Vers. 5., orice om este doar o suflare. (Oprire)

12 Ascultă-mi rugăciunea, Doamne,

și pleacă-Ți urechea la strigătele mele!

Nu tăcea în fața lacrimilor mele!

Căci*Lev. 25:23.1 Cron. 29:15.Ps. 119:19.2 Cor. 5:6.Evr. 11:13.1 Pet. 1:11;2:11. sunt un străin înaintea Ta,

un pribeag, ca*Gen. 47:9. toți părinții mei.

13 Abate-Ți*Iov 10:20,21;14:5,6. privirea de la mine și lasă-mă să răsuflu,

până nu mă duc și să nu mai fiu*Iov 14:10-12.!
