1 Davi, achando-se velho e cheio de dias, constituiu Salomão, seu filho, rei de Israel.
2 Reuniu todos os chefes de Israel, os sacerdotes e os levitas.
3 Foram contados os levitas de trinta anos para cima; contados por cabeça e por homem, eram trinta e oito mil homens.
4 Davi disse: "vinte e quatro mil dentre eles serão colocados a serviço do Templo do Senhor, seis mil serão escribas e juízes,
5 quatro mil porteiros e quatro mil para celebrarem o Senhor com os instrumentos que fiz para louvá-lo".
6 Davi distribuiu-os em classes, segundo as linhagens de Levi: Gérson, Caat e Merari.
7 Dos gersonitas: Leedã e Semei.
8 Filhos de Leedã: o chefe Jaiel, Zetam e Joel: três.
9 Filhos de Semei: Salomit, Hoziel e Arã: três. Foram estes os chefes das famílias de Jeedã.
10 Filhos de Semei: Jeet, Ziza, Jeús e Berias.
11 Os filhos de Semei foram quatro: Jeet,o chefe, Ziza, o segundo. Jeús e Berias, não tendo muitos filhos, foram contados em uma só classe, segundo a família deles.
12 Filhos de Caat: Amram, Isaar, Hebron e Oziel: quatro.
13 Filhos de Amram: Aarão e Moisés. Aarão foi separado para ser consagrado como santíssimo, ele e seus filhos para sempre, para queimar perfumes diante do Senhor, para servi-lo e para dar a bênção perpetuamente em seu nome.
14 Os filhos de Moisés, homem de Deus, foram contados na tribo de Levi.
15 Filhos de Moisés: Gérson e Eliezer.
16 Filho de Gérson: Subael, o chefe.
17 O filho de Eliezer foi Roobias, o chefe. Eliezer não teve outro filho, mas os filhos de Roobias foram muito numerosos.
18 Filho de Isaar: Salomit, o chefe.
19 Filhos de Hebron: Jerias, o chefe; Amarias, o segundo; Jaaziel, o terceiro e Jecmaam, o quarto.
20 Filhos de Oziel: Micas, o chefe; Jesias, o segundo.
21 Filhos de Merari: Mooli e Musi. Filhos de Mooli: Eleazar e Cis.
22 Eleazar morreu sem deixar filhos, mas somente filhas, que se casaram com os filhos de Cis, seus parentes.
23 Filhos de Musi: Mooli, Éder e Jarmut: três.
24 Estes são os filhos de Levi, classificados por famílias, os chefes de família como foram enumerados, nominalmente e por cabeça. Eram encarregados do serviço do templo, desde a idade de vinte anos para cima.
25 Pois dizia Davi: "O Senhor, Deus de Israel, deu a paz a seu povo; ele habitará para sempre em Jerusalém".
26 Também os levitas não tiveram mais que transportar a morada e todos os utensílios de seu serviço.
27 Foi segundo as últimas ordens de Davi que se fez o recenseamento dos filhos de Levi, da idade de vinte anos para cima.
28 Colocados juntos dos filhos de Aarão para o serviço da casa do Senhor, estavam encarregados do cuidado dos átrios e das salas, da purificação de todas as coisas santas, de todo o serviço do templo,
29 dos pães de proposição, da flor de farinha para as oblações, dos pães finos sem levedura, das tortas cozidas sobre a chapa e das tortas fritas, de todas as medidas de capacidade e comprimento.
30 Eles deviam apresentar-se cada manhã e cada tarde para louvar e celebrar o Senhor,
31 para oferecer todos os holocaustos ao Senhor, aos sábados, luas novas e nas solenidades, segundo o número que a lei prescreve que se ofereça ao Senhor.
32 Tinham eles que cuidar da manutenção da tenda de reunião, das coisas santas e dos filhos de Aarão, seus irmãos, para o serviço da casa do Senhor.

7 Of the Gershonites were, Laadan, and Shimei.23.7 Laadan: or, Libni 8 The sons of Laadan; the chief was Jehiel, and Zetham, and Joel, three. 9 The sons of Shimei; Shelomith, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the chief of the fathers of Laadan. 10 And the sons of Shimei were, Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.23.10 Zina: or, Zizah 11 And Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second: but Jeush and Beriah had not many sons; therefore they were in one reckoning, according to their father’s house.23.11 had…: Heb. did not multiply sons
12 The sons of Kohath; Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four. 13 The sons of Amram; Aaron and Moses: and Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons for ever, to burn incense before the LORD, to minister unto him, and to bless in his name for ever. 14 Now concerning Moses the man of God, his sons were named of the tribe of Levi. 15 The sons of Moses were, Gershom, and Eliezer. 16 Of the sons of Gershom, Shebuel was the chief.23.16 Shebuel: also called, Shubael 17 And the sons of Eliezer were, Rehabiah the chief. And Eliezer had none other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.23.17 the chief: or, the first23.17 very many: Heb. highly multiplied 18 Of the sons of Izhar; Shelomith the chief.23.18 Shelomith: also called, Shelomoth 19 Of the sons of Hebron; Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth. 20 Of the sons of Uzziel; Michah the first, and Jesiah the second.
21 The sons of Merari; Mahli, and Mushi. The sons of Mahli; Eleazar, and Kish. 22 And Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters: and their brethren the sons of Kish took them.23.22 brethren: or, kinsmen 23 The sons of Mushi; Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three.
24 These were the sons of Levi after the house of their fathers; even the chief of the fathers, as they were counted by number of names by their polls, that did the work for the service of the house of the LORD, from the age of twenty years and upward. 25 For David said, The LORD God of Israel hath given rest unto his people, that they may dwell in Jerusalem for ever:23.25 that…: or, and he dwelleth in Jerusalem, etc 26 And also unto the Levites; they shall no more carry the tabernacle, nor any vessels of it for the service thereof. 27 For by the last words of David the Levites were numbered from twenty years old and above:23.27 numbered: Heb. number 28 Because their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the LORD, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God;23.28 their…: Heb. their station was at the hand of the sons of Aaron 29 Both for the shewbread, and for the fine flour for meat offering, and for the unleavened cakes, and for that which is baked in the pan, and for that which is fried, and for all manner of measure and size;23.29 pan: or, flat plate 30 And to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD, and likewise at even; 31 And to offer all burnt sacrifices unto the LORD in the sabbaths, in the new moons, and on the set feasts, by number, according to the order commanded unto them, continually before the LORD: 32 And that they should keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, in the service of the house of the LORD.
