1 İsrailliler Mısırdan çıktıktan tam üç ay sonra Sina Çölüne vardılar.

2 Refidimden yola çıkıp Sina Çölüne girdiler. Orada, Sina Dağının karşısında konakladılar.

3 Musa Tanrının huzuruna çıktı. RAB dağdan kendisine seslendi: ‹‹Yakup soyuna, İsrail halkına şöyle diyeceksin:

4 Mısırlılara ne yaptığımı, sizi nasıl kartal kanatları üzerinde taşıyarak yanıma getirdiğimi gördünüz.

5 Şimdi sözümü dikkatle dinler, antlaşmama uyarsanız, bütün uluslar içinde öz halkım olursunuz. Çünkü yeryüzünün tümü benimdir.

6 Siz benim için kâhinler krallığı, kutsal ulus olacaksınız. İsraillilere böyle söyleyeceksin.›› Tanrıya kurban sunmak gibi dinsel işlerle uğraşan görevli. Kâhinin büyücülük, falcılık, sihirbazlık, gaipten haber vermek gibi işlerle uğraşması söz konusu değildi. Bu uygulamalar Yas.18:9-14 ayetlerinde yasaklanmıştır.

7 Musa gidip halkın ileri gelenlerini çağırdı ve RABbin kendisine buyurduğu her şeyi onlara anlattı.

8 Bütün halk bir ağızdan, ‹‹RABbin söylediği her şeyi yapacağız›› diye yanıtladılar. Musa halkın yanıtını RABbe iletti.

9 RAB Musaya, ‹‹Sana koyu bir bulut içinde geleceğim›› dedi, ‹‹Öyle ki, seninle konuşurken halk işitsin ve her zaman sana güvensin.›› Musa halkın söylediklerini RABbe iletti.

10 RAB Musaya, ‹‹Git, bugün ve yarın halkı arındır›› dedi, ‹‹Giysilerini yıkasınlar.

11 Üçüncü güne hazır olsunlar. Çünkü üçüncü gün bütün halkın gözü önünde ben, RAB Sina Dağına ineceğim.

12 Dağın çevresine sınır çiz ve halka de ki, ‹Sakın dağa çıkmayın, dağın eteğine de yaklaşmayın! Kim dağa dokunursa, kesinlikle öldürülecektir.

13 Ya taşlanacak, ya da okla vurulacak; ona insan eli değmeyecek. İster hayvan olsun ister insan, yaşamasına izin verilmeyecek.› Ancak boru uzun uzun çalınınca dağa çıkabilirler.››

14 Sonra Musa dağdan halkın yanına inip onları arındırdı. Herkes giysilerini yıkadı.

15 Musa halka, ‹‹Üçüncü güne hazır olun›› dedi, ‹‹Bu süre içinde cinsel ilişkide bulunmayın.››

16 Üçüncü günün sabahı gök gürledi, şimşekler çaktı. Dağın üzerinde koyu bir bulut vardı. Derken, çok güçlü bir boru sesi duyuldu. Ordugahta herkes titremeye başladı.

17 Musa halkın Tanrıyla görüşmek üzere ordugahtan çıkmasına öncülük etti. Dağın eteğinde durdular.

18 Sina Dağının her yanından duman tütüyordu. Çünkü RAB dağın üstüne ateş içinde inmişti. Dağdan ocak dumanı gibi duman çıkıyor, bütün dağ şiddetle sarsılıyordu.

19 Boru sesi gitgide yükselince, Musa konuştu ve Tanrı gök gürlemeleriyle onu yanıtladı.

20 RAB Sina Dağının üzerine indi, Musayı dağın tepesine çağırdı. Musa tepeye çıktı.

21 RAB, ‹‹Aşağı inip halkı uyar›› dedi, ‹‹Sakın beni görmek için sınırı geçmesinler, yoksa birçoğu ölür.

22 Bana yaklaşan kâhinler de kendilerini kutsasınlar, yoksa onları şiddetle cezalandırırım.››

23 Musa, ‹‹Halk Sina Dağına çıkamaz›› diye karşılık verdi, ‹‹Çünkü sen, ‹Dağın çevresine sınır çiz, onu kutsal kıl› diyerek bizi uyardın.››

24 RAB, ‹‹Aşağı inip Harunu getir›› dedi, ‹‹Ama kâhinlerle halk huzuruma gelmek için sınırı geçmesinler. Yoksa onları şiddetle cezalandırırım.››

25 Bunun üzerine Musa aşağı inip durumu halka anlattı.

1 In the third month after the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai. 2 And when they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the wilderness of Sinai, they encamped in the wilderness; and there Israel encamped before the mount. 3 And Moses went up unto God, and Jehovah called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel: 4 Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself. 5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be mine own possession from among all peoples: for all the earth is mine: 6 and ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

7 And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and set before them all these words which Jehovah commanded him. 8 And all the people answered together, and said, All that Jehovah hath spoken we will do. And Moses reported the words of the people unto Jehovah. 9 And Jehovah said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and may also believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto Jehovah. 10 And Jehovah said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to-day and to-morrow, and let them wash their garments, 11 and be ready against the third day; for the third day Jehovah will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai. 12 And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death: 13 no hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, he shall not live: when the trumpet soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount. 14 And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their garments. 15 And he said unto the people, Be ready against the third day: come not near a woman.

16 And it came to pass on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of a trumpet exceeding loud; and all the people that were in the camp trembled. 17 And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount. 18 And mount Sinai, the whole of it, smoked, because Jehovah descended upon it in fire; and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly. 19 And when the voice of the trumpet waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice. 20 And Jehovah came down upon mount Sinai, to the top of the mount: and Jehovah called Moses to the top of the mount; and Moses went up. 21 And Jehovah said unto Moses, Go down, charge the people, lest they break through unto Jehovah to gaze, and many of them perish. 22 And let the priests also, that come near to Jehovah, sanctify themselves, lest Jehovah break forth upon them. 23 And Moses said unto Jehovah, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai: for thou didst charge us, saying, Set bounds about the mount, and sanctify it. 24 And Jehovah said unto him, Go, get thee down; and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee: but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto Jehovah, lest he break forth upon them. 25 So Moses went down unto the people, and told them.
