1 We then, working together with God, make our request to you not to take the grace of God to no purpose.

2 (For he says, I have given ear to you at a good time, and I have been your helper in a day of salvation: see, now is the good time; now is the day of salvation):

3 Giving no cause for trouble in anything, so that no one may be able to say anything against our work;

4 But in everything making it clear that we are the servants of God, in quiet strength, in troubles, in need, in sorrow,

5 In blows, in prisons, in attacks, in hard work, in watchings, in going without food;

6 In a clean heart, in knowledge, in long waiting, in being kind, in the Holy Spirit, in true love,

7 In the true word, in the power of God; with the arms of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,

8 By glory and by shame, by an evil name and a good name; as untrue, and still true;

9 Unnoted, but still kept fully in mind; as near to death, but still living; as undergoing punishment, but not put to death;

10 As full of sorrow, but ever glad; as poor, but giving wealth to others; as having nothing, but still having all things.

11 Our mouth is open to you, O Corinthians, our heart is wide.

12 It is not our feelings to you which are narrow, but yours to us.

13 Now to give me back payment of the same sort (I am talking as to my children), let your hearts be wide open to me.

14 Do not keep company with those who have not faith: for what is there in common between righteousness and evil, or between light and dark?

15 And what agreement is there between Christ and the Evil One? or what part has one who has faith with one who has not?

16 And what agreement has the house of God with images? for we are a house of the living God; even as God has said, I will be living among them, and walking with them; and I will be their God, and they will be my people.

17 For which cause, Come out from among them, and be separate, says the Lord, and let no unclean thing come near you; and I will take you for myself,

18 And will be a Father to you; and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord, the Ruler of all.

1 Mitarbeitend {S. 1. Kor. 3,9} aber ermahnen {O. bitten} wir auch, daß ihr die Gnade Gottes nicht vergeblich empfanget

2 (denn er spricht: "Zur angenehmen {O. annehmlichen, wohlgefälligen} Zeit habe ich dich erhört, und am Tage des Heils habe ich dir geholfen". {Jes. 49,8} Siehe, jetzt ist die wohlangenehme {O. wohlannehmliche} Zeit, siehe, jetzt ist der Tag des Heils);

3 indem wir in keiner Sache irgend einen Anstoß geben, auf daß der Dienst nicht verlästert werde,

4 sondern in allem uns erweisen {O. empfehlen} als Gottes Diener, in vielem Ausharren, {O. vieler Geduld} in Drangsalen, in Nöten, in Ängsten,

5 in Streichen, in Gefängnissen, in Aufständen, {O. Unruhen} in Mühen, in Wachen, in Fasten;

6 in Reinheit, in Erkenntnis, in Langmut, in Gütigkeit, im Heiligen Geiste, in ungeheuchelter Liebe;

7 im Worte der Wahrheit, in der Kraft Gottes; durch die Waffen der Gerechtigkeit zur Rechten und zur Linken;

8 durch Ehre und Unehre, durch böses Gerücht und gutes Gerücht, als Verführer und Wahrhaftige;

9 als Unbekannte und Wohlbekannte; {O. Erkannte} als Sterbende, und siehe, wir leben; als Gezüchtigte und nicht getötet; {Eig. zum Tode gebracht}

10 als Traurige, aber allezeit uns freuend; als Arme, aber viele reich machend; als nichts habend und alles besitzend.

11 Unser Mund ist zu euch aufgetan, ihr Korinther; unser Herz ist weit geworden.

12 Ihr seid nicht verengt in uns, sondern ihr seid verengt in eurem Innern. {O. in euren innerlichen Gefühlen}

13 Zur gleichen Vergeltung aber (ich rede als zu Kindern) werdet auch ihr weit.

14 Seid nicht in einem ungleichen Joche {Eig. seid nicht verschiedenartig zusammengejocht; vergl. 3. Mose 19,19; 5. Mose 22,10} mit Ungläubigen. Denn welche Genossenschaft hat Gerechtigkeit und Gesetzlosigkeit? oder welche Gemeinschaft Licht mit Finsternis?

15 und welche Übereinstimmung Christus mit Belial? {Griech. Beliar} Oder welches Teil ein Gläubiger mit einem Ungläubigen?

16 und welchen Zusammenhang der Tempel Gottes {S. 1. Kor. 3,16} mit Götzenbildern? Denn ihr seid der Tempel des lebendigen Gottes, wie Gott gesagt hat: "Ich will unter ihnen wohnen und wandeln, und ich werde ihr Gott sein, und sie werden mein Volk sein". {3. Mose 26,11. 12.}

17 Darum gehet aus aus ihrer Mitte und sondert euch ab, spricht der Herr, {S. die Anm. zu Mat. 1,20} und rühret Unreines nicht an, und ich werde euch aufnehmen;

18 und ich werde euch zum Vater sein, und ihr werdet mir zu Söhnen und Töchtern sein, spricht der Herr, der Allmächtige. {Vergl. Jes. 52,11}
