1 \1:17\And the Lord made ready a great fish to take Jonah into its mouth; and Jonah was inside the fish for three days and three nights.2 \2:1\Then Jonah made prayer to the Lord his God from the inside of the fish, and said,3 \2:2\In my trouble I was crying to the Lord, and he gave me an answer; out of the deepest underworld I sent up a cry, and you gave ear to my voice.4 \2:3\For you have put me down into the deep, into the heart of the sea; and the river was round about me; all your waves and your rolling waters went over me.5 \2:4\And I said, I have been sent away from before your eyes; how may I ever again see your holy Temple?6 \2:5\The waters were circling round me, even to the neck; the deep was about me; the sea-grass was twisted round my head.7 \2:6\I went down to the bases of the mountains; as for the earth, her walls were about me for ever: but you have taken up my life from the underworld, O Lord my God.8 \2:7\When my soul in me was overcome, I kept the memory of the Lord: and my prayer came in to you, into your holy Temple.9 \2:8\The worshippers of false gods have given up their only hope.10 \2:9\But I will make an offering to you with the voice of praise; I will give effect to my oaths. Salvation is the Lord's.11 \2:10\And at the Lord's order, the fish sent Jonah out of its mouth on to the dry land.

1 Und Jahwe bestellte einen großen Fisch, um Jona zu verschlingen; und Jona war im Bauche des Fisches drei Tage und drei Nächte.2 Und Jona betete zu Jahwe, seinem Gott, aus dem Bauche des Fisches und sprach:3 Ich rief aus meiner Bedrängnis zu Jahwe, und er antwortete mir; ich schrie aus dem Schoße des Scheols, du hörtest meine Stimme.4 Denn du hattest mich in die Tiefe, in das Herz der Meere geworfen, und der Strom umschloß mich; alle deine Wogen und deine Wellen fuhren über mich hin.5 Und ich sprach: Verstoßen bin ich aus deinen Augen; dennoch werde ich wieder hinschauen nach deinem heiligen Tempel.6 Die Wasser umfingen mich bis an die Seele, die Tiefe umschloß mich, das Meergras schlang sich um mein Haupt.7 Ich fuhr hinab zu den Gründen der Berge; der Erde Riegel waren hinter mir auf ewig. Da führtest du mein Leben aus der Grube herauf, Jahwe, mein Gott.8 Als meine Seele in mir verschmachtete, gedachte ich Jahwes, und zu dir kam mein Gebet in deinen heiligen Tempel.9 Die auf nichtige Götzen achten, verlassen ihre Gnade.10 Ich aber werde dir opfern mit der Stimme des Lobes; was ich gelobt habe, werde ich bezahlen. Bei Jahwe ist die Rettung.11 Und Jahwe befahl dem Fische, und er spie Jona an das Land aus.
