1 In the seventeenth year of Pekah, the son of Remaliah, Ahaz, the son of Jotham, became king of Judah.

2 Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king; he was ruling for sixteen years in Jerusalem. He did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord his God, as David his father did.

3 But he went in the ways of the kings of Israel, and even made his son go through the fire, copying the disgusting ways of the nations whom the Lord had sent out of the land before the children of Israel.

4 And he made offerings, burning them in the high places and on the hills and under every green tree.

5 Then Rezin, king of Aram, and Pekah, son of Remaliah, king of Israel, came up to Jerusalem to make war; and they made an attack on Ahaz, shutting him in, but were not able to overcome him.

6 At that time the king of Edom got Elath back for Edom, and sent the Jews out of Elath; and the Edomites came back to Elath where they are living to this day.

7 So Ahaz sent representatives to Tiglath-pileser, king of Assyria, saying, I am your servant and your son; come to my help against the kings of Aram and Israel who have taken up arms against me.

8 And Ahaz took the silver and gold which were in the house of the Lord and in the king's store-house, and sent them as an offering to the king of Assyria.

9 And the king of Assyria, in answer to his request, went up against Damascus and took it, and took its people away as prisoners to Kir, and put Rezin to death.

10 Then King Ahaz went to Damascus for a meeting with Tiglath-pileser, king of Assyria; and there he saw the altar which was at Damascus; and King Ahaz sent to Urijah the priest a copy of the altar, giving the design of it and all the details of its structure.

11 And from the copy King Ahaz sent from Damascus, Urijah made an altar and had it ready by the time King Ahaz came back from Damascus.

12 And when the king came from Damascus, he saw the altar; and he went up on it and made an offering on it.

13 He made his burned offering and his meal offering and his drink offering there, draining out the blood of his peace-offerings on the altar.

14 And the brass altar, which was before the Lord, he took from the front of the house, from between his altar and the house of the Lord, and put it on the north side of his altar.

15 And King Ahaz gave orders to Urijah the priest, saying, Make the morning burned offering and the evening meal offering and the king's burned offering and meal offering, with the burned offerings of all the people and their meal offerings and drink offerings, on the great altar, and put on it all the blood of the burned offerings and of the beasts which are offered; but the brass altar will be for my use to get directions from the Lord.

16 So Urijah the priest did everything as the king said

17 And King Ahaz took off the sides of the wheeled bases, and took down the great water-vessel from off the brass oxen which were under it and put it on a floor of stone.

18 *** the house of the Lord, because of the king of Assyria.

19 Now the rest of the things which Ahaz did, are they not recorded in the book of the history of the kings of Judah?

20 And Ahaz went to rest with his fathers, and was put into the earth with his fathers in the town of David; and Hezekiah his son became king in his place.

1 Pékának, a Remália fiának tizenhetedik esztendejében kezdett uralkodni Akház, Jótámnak, a Júda királyának fia.

2 Húsz esztendõs volt Akház, mikor uralkodni kezdett, és tizenhat esztendeig uralkodott Jeruzsálemben; de nem azt cselekedé, a mi az Úrnak, az õ Istenének tetszett volna, a mint Dávid, az õ atyja,

3 Hanem az Izráel királyainak útjokon járt, még az õ fiát is átvitte a tûzön, a pogányok útálatosságai szerint, a kiket az Úr az Izráel fiai elõtt kiûzött volt.

4 És ott áldozott és tömjénezett a magaslatokon és a halmokon és minden zöld fa alatt.

5 Abban az idõben jött fel Réczin, Siria királya, és Péka, a Remália fia, az Izráel királya, Jeruzsálemet vívatni, és körülzárták Akházt, de nem tudták legyõzni.

6 Akkor nyerte vissza Réczin, Siria királya Elátot a Siriabelieknek, és irtotta ki a zsidókat Elátból; és Siriabeliek jövének Elátba, és ott laknak mind e mai napig.

7 És követeket küldött Akház Tiglát-Piléserhez, Assiria királyához, ezt izenvén: Te szolgád és a te fiad vagyok; jõjj fel és szabadíts meg engem Siria királyának kezébõl és az Izráel királyának kezébõl, a kik reám támadtak.

8 És vevé Akház az ezüstöt és aranyat, és a mely találtaték az Úr házában és a király házának kincsei között, és ajándékba küldé Assiria királyának.

9 És engedett néki Assiria királya, és feljövén Assiria királya Damaskus ellen, bevette azt, és a benne levõket Kirbe hurczolta; Réczint pedig megölte.

10 És eleibe ment Akház Tiglát-Pilésernek, Assiria királyának Damaskusba, és mikor meglátta Akház király azt az oltárt, a mely Damaskusban volt, elküldte Akház király annak az oltárnak hasonlatosságát és képét minden felszerelésével Uriás paphoz.

11 És megépítette Uriás pap az oltárt arra a formára, a melyet Akház király Damaskusból küldött, és elkészíté azt Uriás pap, mire Akház király visszajött Damaskusból.

12 És mikor megjött a király Damaskusból és meglátta a király az oltárt: az oltárhoz ment a király és áldozott rajta,

13 És meggyújtotta az õ égõáldozatját és ételáldozatját, és áldozott italáldozattal is, és az õ hálaáldozatainak vérét elhintette az oltár körül.

14 És a rézoltárt, a mely az Úr elõtt állott, elviteté a ház elõl, hogy ne álljon az õ oltára és az Úr háza között, és helyhezteté azt az oltár szegletéhez észak felõl.

15 És megparancsolta Akház király Uriás papnak, mondván: E nagy oltáron gyújtsd meg a reggeli égõáldozatot és az esteli ételáldozatot, a király égõáldozatját is az õ ételáldozatával együtt, az egész föld népének is mind égõáldozatát, mind ételáldozatját, mind italáldozatját, és az égõáldozat minden vérét és egyéb áldozatnak minden vérét a körül hintsed el; a rézoltár felõl pedig még [majd] gondolkozom.

16 És Uriás pap mind a szerint cselekedék, a mint Akház király megparancsolta.

17 És letörte Akház király a talpak oldalait, és lehányta azokról a mosdómedenczéket; a tengert is ledobta a rézökrökrõl, a melyeken állott, és kõtalapzatra tette.

18 És áthelyezte a szombati hajlékot, a melyet a házban építettek, és a király külsõ bejáró helyét az Úr házában, Assiria királya miatt.

19 Akháznak egyéb dolgai pedig, a melyeket cselekedett, vajjon nincsenek-é megírva a Júda királyainak krónika-könyvében?

20 És elaluvék Akház az õ atyáival, és eltemetteték az õ atyáival a Dávid városában, és uralkodék õ helyette az õ fia, Ezékiás.
