1 \1:17\And the Lord made ready a great fish to take Jonah into its mouth; and Jonah was inside the fish for three days and three nights.2 \2:1\Then Jonah made prayer to the Lord his God from the inside of the fish, and said,3 \2:2\In my trouble I was crying to the Lord, and he gave me an answer; out of the deepest underworld I sent up a cry, and you gave ear to my voice.4 \2:3\For you have put me down into the deep, into the heart of the sea; and the river was round about me; all your waves and your rolling waters went over me.5 \2:4\And I said, I have been sent away from before your eyes; how may I ever again see your holy Temple?6 \2:5\The waters were circling round me, even to the neck; the deep was about me; the sea-grass was twisted round my head.7 \2:6\I went down to the bases of the mountains; as for the earth, her walls were about me for ever: but you have taken up my life from the underworld, O Lord my God.8 \2:7\When my soul in me was overcome, I kept the memory of the Lord: and my prayer came in to you, into your holy Temple.9 \2:8\The worshippers of false gods have given up their only hope.10 \2:9\But I will make an offering to you with the voice of praise; I will give effect to my oaths. Salvation is the Lord's.11 \2:10\And at the Lord's order, the fish sent Jonah out of its mouth on to the dry land.

1 Or l'Eternel avait préparé un grand poisson pour engloutir Jonas; et Jonas demeura dans le ventre du poisson trois jours et trois nuits.2 Et Jonas fit sa prière à l'Eternel son Dieu, dans le ventre du poisson.3 Et il dit : J'ai crié à l'Eternel à cause de ma détresse, et il m'a exaucé; je me suis écrié du ventre du sépulcre, et tu as ouï ma voix.4 Tu m'as jeté au fond, au cœur de la mer, et le courant m'a environné; tous tes flots et toutes tes vagues ont passé sur moi;5 Et j'ai dit : Je suis rejeté de devant tes yeux; mais néanmoins je verrai encore le Temple de ta sainteté.6 Les eaux m'ont environné jusqu'à l'âme, l'abîme m'a environné tout à l'entour, les roseaux se sont entortillés autour de ma tête.7 Je suis descendu jusqu'aux racines des montagnes, la terre avec ses barres était autour de moi pour jamais; mais tu as fait remonter ma vie hors de la fosse, ô Eternel, mon Dieu!8 Quand mon âme se pâmait en moi, je me suis souvenu de l'Eternel, et ma prière est parvenue à toi, jusqu'au palais de ta sainteté.9 Ceux qui s'adonnent aux vanités fausses abandonnent leur gratuité.10 Mais moi, je te sacrifierai avec voix de louange, je rendrai ce que j'ai voué; car le salut est de l'Eternel.11 Alors l'Eternel fit commandement au poisson, et il dégorgea Jonas sur le sec.
