1 Exorto-te que antes de tudo se façam súplicas, orações, intercessões e ações de graças por todos os homens,2 pelos reis e por todos os que estão em autoridade, para que tenhamos uma vida quieta e sossegada, em toda a piedade e honestidade.3 Porque isto é bom e aceitável aos olhos de Deus, nosso Salvador,4 que quer que todos os homens se salvem e venham ao conhecimento da verdade.5 Porque há um só Deus e um só mediador entre Deus e os homens, o homem Jesus Cristo,6 o qual se entregou a si mesmo como resgate por todos, para servir de testemunho a seu tempo.7 Para o que fui constituído pregador, e um apóstolo (digo a verdade em Cristo e não minto), e mestre dos gentios na fé e na verdade.8 Quero, pois, que os homens orem em todo o lugar, levantando mãos santas, sem ira nem dúvida.9 Que do mesmo modo as mulheres se ataviem em vestuário modesto, com pudor e sobriedade, não com tranças, ou ouro, ou pérolas, ou vestidos dispendiosos,10 mas (como convém a mulheres que professam a piedade) com boas obras.11 A mulher aprenda em silêncio, com toda a sujeição.12 Mas não permito que a mulher ensine, nem usurpe a autoridade do homem, mas que esteja em silêncio.13 Porque Adão foi formado primeiro, depois Eva.14 E Adão não foi enganado, mas a mulher, sendo enganada, caiu em transgressão.15 Contudo ela será salva, dando à luz filhos, se continuar na fé e caridade, e santidade com sobriedade.

1 Now I exhort, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men;2 for kings, and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour,4 who wills all men to be saved, and to come to an acknowledgment of the truth.5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, -the man Christ Jesus,6 who gave himself a ransom for all; -of which the testimony is in its proper season:7 for which I was appointed a herald and an Apostle, (I speak the truth, I do not falsify,) a teacher to the Gentiles in faith and truth.8 I will, therefore, that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and disputings.9 I like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in decent apparel, with modesty and sobriety, not with plaited hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly raiment:10 but (which becomes women professing godliness,) with good works.11 Let a woman learn in silence with all submission:12 for I do not allow a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over a man, but to be silent;13 for Adam was first formed, then Eve.14 Besides, Adam was not deceived: but the woman, being deceived, was in transgression.15 However, she shall be saved through child-bearing, if they live in faith, and love, and holiness, with sobriety.
