12 Fiii lui Eli erau nişte oameni răi. Nu cunoşteau pe Domnul.

13 Şi iată care era felul de purtare al acestor preoţi faţă de popor. Cînd aducea cineva o jertfă, venea sluga preotului în clipa cînd se ferbea carnea. Ţinînd în mînă o furculiţă cu trei coarne,

14 o vîra în cazan, în căldare, în tigaie sau în oală; şi tot ce apuca cu furculiţa, lua preotul pentru el. Aşa făceau ei tuturor acelora din Israel cari veneau la Silo.

15 Chiar înainte de a arde grăsimea, venea sluga preotului şi zicea celui ce aducea jertfa: ,,Dă pentru preot carnea de fript; el nu va lua dela tine carne fiartă, ci vrea carne crudă.

16 Şi dacă omul zicea: ,,După ce se va arde grăsimea, vei lua ce-ţi va plăcea, sluga răspundea: ,,Nu! dă mi acum, căci altfel iau cu sila.

17 Tinerii aceştia se făceau vinovaţi înaintea Domnului de un foarte mare păcat, pentrucă nesocoteau darurile Domnului.

12 and the sons of Eli [are] sons of worthlessness, they have not known Jehovah.

13 And the custom of the priests with the people [is]: any man sacrificing a sacrifice -- then hath the servant of the priest come in when the flesh is boiling, and the hook of three teeth in his hand,

14 and hath struck [it] into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the hook bringeth up doth the priest take for himself; thus they do to all Israel who are coming in, there, in Shiloh.

15 Also before they make perfume with the fat -- then hath the priests servant come in, and said to the man who is sacrificing, Give flesh to roast for the priest, and he doth not take of thee flesh boiled, but raw;

16 and the man saith unto him, Let them surely make a perfume (as to-day) with the fat, then take to thee as thy soul desireth; and he hath said to him, Surely now thou dost give; and if not -- I have taken by strength.

17 And the sin of the young men is very great [in] the presence of Jehovah, for the men have despised the offering of Jehovah.
