4Love is patient, 13:4 1Th 5:14 love is kind. Love does not envy, 13:4 Nm 25:13; Gl 4:17 is not boastful, is not arrogant, 13:4 1Co 4:6
8Love never ends. 13:8 Mt 7:25,27; Lk 6:49; 11:17; 13:4; 16:17; Ac 15:16; Heb 11:30; Rv 11:13; 16:19 But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end.
13Now these three remain: faith, hope, 13:13 1Th 1:3 and love — but the greatest of these is love.
3Like an apricot 2:3 Or apple tree among the trees of the forest,so is my love among the young men.I delight to sit in his shade, and his fruit is sweet to my taste.
8Listen! My love is approaching.Look! Here he comes, leaping over the mountains, 2:8 Is 52:7bounding over the hills.
10My love calls to me:Arise, 2:10 Sg 2:13 my darling.Come away, my beautiful one.
13But as for me, Lord,my prayer to you is for a time of favor. In your abundant, faithful love, God,answer me with your sure salvation. 69:13 Ps 109:4; Is 49:8; 2Co 6:2
16Answer me, Lord, for your faithful love is good.In keeping with your abundant compassion, turn to me. 69:16 Ps 25:16; 109:21
32The humble will see it and rejoice. You who seek God, take heart! 69:32 Ps 22:26; 34:2
9God’s love was revealed among us 4:9 Or in us in this way: God sent 4:9 Mk 9:37 his one and only Son 4:9 Jn 1:14,18; 3:16,18 into the world so that we might live 4:9 Jn 10:28 through him.
16And we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us.God is love, and the one who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him.
18There is no fear in love; instead, perfect love drives out fear, 4:18 Rm 8:15 because fear involves punishment. 4:18 Or fear has its own punishment or torment So the one who fears is not complete in love. 4:18 Eph 4:11–16
5But whoever keeps his word, 2:5 Jn 14:23 truly in him the love of God is made complete. This is how we know we are in him: 2:5 Jn 6:56; 14:20; 15:1–7; Rm 8:1; 2Co 5:17; Eph 2:10; Php 1:1
15Do not love the world 2:15 Jn 15:19; 17:16; Rm 12:2; Jms 1:27; 4:4 or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16For everything in the world — the lust of the flesh, 2:16 Rm 13:14; Eph 2:3; 1Pt 4:2; 2Pt 2:18 the lust of the eyes, 2:16 Gn 3:6; Pr 27:20 and the pride 2:16 Jms 4:16 in one’s possessions — is not from the Father, but is from the world.
7Pay your obligations 13:7 Mt 22:21 to everyone: taxes to those you owe taxes, 13:7 Lk 20:22; 23:2 tolls to those you owe tolls, respect to those you owe respect, 13:7 Mt 17:25 and honor to those you owe honor.
9The commandments, Do not commit adultery; do not murder; do not steal;13:9 Other mss add do not bear false witnessdo not covet;13:9 Ex 20:13–17; Dt 5:17–21,13:9 Ex 20:13–17; Dt 5:17–21 and any other commandment, are summed up by this commandment: Love your neighbor as yourself.13:9 Lv 19:18,13:9 Lv 19:18; Mt 19:19
10Love does no wrong to a neighbor. Love, therefore, is the fulfillment of the law.
1The elder:To the elect 1 Rm 16:13; 1Pt 5:13; 2Jn 13 lady and her children, whom I love in the truth — and not only I, but also all who know the truth 1 Jn 8:32; 14:6; 1Tm 2:4 —
5So now I ask you, dear lady — not as if I were writing you a new command, but one we have had from the beginning — that we love one another. 5 1Jn 3:11
6This is love: 6 1Jn 2:5; 5:3 that we walk according to his commands. 6 Ps 103:18; Mk 7:8; Jn 14:15,21,23; 15:10 This is the command as you have heard it from the beginning: that you walk in love. 6 Or in it

2But the Lord said to me, ‘Do not fear him, for I have handed him over to you along with his whole army and his land. Do to him as you did to King Sihon of the Amorites, 3:2 Nm 21:23–26,34; Dt 2:33; Jdg 11:21 who lived in Heshbon.’

44Then the Amorites who lived there came out against you and chased you like a swarm of bees. They routed you from Seir as far as Hormah. 1:44 Nm 14:45
