15Do not love the world  2:15 Jn 15:19; 17:16; Rm 12:2; Jms 1:27; 4:4 or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

16For everything in the world — the lust of the flesh,  2:16 Rm 13:14; Eph 2:3; 1Pt 4:2; 2Pt 2:18 the lust of the eyes,  2:16 Gn 3:6; Pr 27:20 and the pride  2:16 Jms 4:16 in one’s possessions — is not from the Father, but is from the world.

9Yet I destroyed the Amorite  2:9 Jos 10:12 as Israel advanced;his height  2:9 Nm 13:28–33 was like the cedars,and he was as sturdy as the oaks;I destroyed his fruit  2:9 Ezk 17:9; Mal 4:1 above and his roots beneath.

13One of the survivors came and told Abram the Hebrew,  14:13 Gn 39:14; 40:15 who lived near the oaks belonging to Mamre the Amorite, the brother of Eshcol and the brother of Aner. They were bound by a treaty with Abram.

19He blessed him and said:Abram is blessed by God Most High,Creator  14:19 Or Possessor of heaven and earth,

22Don’t be afraid of them, for the Lord your God fights for you.

21See, the Lord your God has set the land before you. Go up and take possession of it as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, has told you. Do not be afraid or discouraged.

17And I have promised you that I will bring you up from the misery of Egypt  3:17 Gn 15:16; Jos 24:11 to the land of the Canaanites, Hethites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites — a land flowing with milk and honey.
