23 As he got into the boat,  * 8:23–27 Mk 4:36–41; Lk 8:22–25; Jn 6:16–21 his disciples  * 8:23 Mt 10:1; 26:56; Mk 3:7; 16:20; Lk 6:13; Jn 12:16 followed him. 24 Suddenly, a violent storm arose on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves — but Jesus kept sleeping. 25 So the disciples came and woke him up, saying, "Lord, save us! We’re going to die! "

26 He said to them, "Why are you afraid, you of little faith? " Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea,  * 8:26 Ps 65:7; 89:9; 107:29; Mt 6:30; Lk 4:39 and there was a great calm.

27 The men were amazed and asked, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the sea obey  * 8:27 Mk 1:27; Lk 5:9 him! "
