Colossenses 4

1 Masters, give to bondmen what is just and fair, knowing that ye also have a Master in the heavens.

2 Persevere in prayer, watching in it with thanksgiving; 3 praying at the same time for us also, that God may open to us a door of the word to speak the mystery of Christ, on account of which also I am bound, 4 to the end that I may make it manifest as I ought to speak.

5 Walk in wisdom towards those without, redeeming opportunities. 6 Let your word be always with grace, seasoned with salt, so as to know how ye ought to answer each one.

7 Tychicus, the beloved brother and faithful minister and fellow-bondman in the Lord, will make known to you all that concerns me; 8 whom I have sent to you for this very purpose, that he might know your state, and that he might encourage your hearts: 9 with Onesimus, the faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you. They shall make known to you everything here. 10 Aristarchus my fellow-captive salutes you, and Mark, Barnabas’s cousin, concerning whom ye have received orders, (if he come to you, receive him,) 11 and Jesus called Justus, who are of the circumcision. These are the only fellow-workers for the kingdom of God who have been a consolation to me. 12 Epaphras, who is one of you, the bondman of Christ Jesus, salutes you, always combating earnestly for you in prayers, to the end that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God. 13 For I bear him witness that he labours much for you, and them in Laodicea, and them in Hierapolis. 14 Luke, the beloved physician, salutes you, and Demas. 15 Salute the brethren in Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the assembly which is in his house. 16 And when the letter has been read among you, cause that it be read also in the assembly of Laodiceans, and that ye also read that from Laodicea. 17 And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, to the end that thou fulfil it. 18 The salutation by the hand of me Paul. Remember my bonds. Grace be with you.

1 Meesters, behandel je slaven rechtvaardig en correct, in het besef dat je zelf een Meester in de hemel hebt.

2 Wees volhardend, waakzaam en dankbaar in je gebeden. 3 Bid dan ook voor ons, dat God deuren voor ons zal openen om het geheim van Christus, omwille waarvan ik gevangen zit, bekend te maken. 4 Bid ook dat ik het duidelijk zal kunnen uitleggen, want dat is wat ik behoor te doen.

5 Gedraag je verstandig ten opzichte van buitenstaanders en maak gebruik van de kansen die je krijgt. 6 Zorg dat de dingen die je zegt, altijd aangenaam en met zout op smaak gebracht zijn: weet hoe je op iedere persoon moet reageren.

7 Tychikus, onze geliefde broeder, collega en trouwe dienaar van de Heer, zal jullie al mijn nieuws vertellen. 8 Ik stuur hem speciaal met dat doel naar jullie toe – om jullie van mijn omstandigheden op de hoogte te stellen en jullie te bemoedigen. 9 Ik stuur Onesimus, de trouwe en geliefde broeder die bij jullie vandaan komt, met hem mee. Zij zullen jullie alles vertellen over de omstandigheden hier. 10 Aristarchus, die samen met mij gevangen zit, groet jullie, en ook Markus, de neef van Barnabas. (Over hem hebben jullie instructies ontvangen: als hij bij jullie komt, moeten jullie hem verwelkomen.) 11 En ook Jezus die Justus wordt genoemd. Zij zijn mijn enige medearbeiders in Gods koninkrijk die van Joodse afkomst zijn, en zij zijn mij tot steun geweest.

12 Epafras groet jullie. Hij is een van jullie, en een dienaar van Christus Jezus. Hij worstelt voortdurend voor jullie in het gebed. Hij bidt dan dat jullie je, als volwassen christenen, vol overtuiging zullen richten op alles wat God wil. 13 Ik kan over Epafras getuigen dat hij zich hard voor jullie inspant, en ook voor de gelovigen in Laodicea en Hiërapolis. 14 De geliefde dokter Lukas, en ook Demas, groeten jullie. 15 Groet de broeders en zusters in Laodicea en ook Nymfa en de kerkgemeenschap die in haar huis samenkomt. 16 Wanneer deze brief aan jullie is voorgelezen, laat hem dan ook voorlezen in de kerkgemeenschap in Laodicea en laat de brief aan de kerkgemeenschap in Laodicea bij jullie voorlezen. 17 Zeg tegen Archippus: zorg dat je de taak die je van de Heer hebt ontvangen, uitvoert. 18 Deze groet schrijf ik, Paulus, eigenhandig. Denk aan mij in mijn gevangenschap. Ik wens jullie Gods genade toe.
