1 The wilderness and the dry land shall be gladdened; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose.2 It shall blossom abundantly and rejoice even with joy and shouting: the glory of Lebanon shall be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of Jehovah, the excellency of our God.3 Strengthen the weak hands and confirm the tottering knees.4 Say to them that are of a timid heart, Be strong, fear not; behold your God: vengeance cometh, the recompense of God! He will come himself, and save you.5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf be unstopped;6 then shall the lame {man} leap as a hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and torrents in the desert.7 And the mirage shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water: in the habitation of wild dogs, where they lay down, shall be grass with reeds and rushes.8 And a highway shall be there and a way, and it shall be called, The way of holiness: the unclean shall not pass through it; but it shall be for these. Those that go {this} way-even fools, -shall not err {therein}.9 No lion shall be there, nor shall ravenous beast go up thereon, nor be found there; but the redeemed shall walk {there}.10 And the ransomed of Jehovah shall return, and come to Zion with singing; and everlasting joy shall be upon their heads: they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

1 Freuen werden sich Wüste und trockenes Land. / Die Steppe frohlockt, / sie blüht wie eine Krokuswiese auf.2 Sie wird in voller Blüte stehen, / und voll Freude jubeln. / Herrlich wie der Libanon wird sie dann sein, / prächtig wie der Karmel und die Ebene Scharon. / Und die Herrlichkeit Jahwes werden sie sehen, / die Pracht und Hoheit von unserem Gott.3 Macht die erschlafften Hände stark / und die weichen Knie fest!4 Ruft den verzagten Herzen zu: / "Seid stark und fürchtet euch nicht! / Seht, dort kommt euer Gott mit Rache und Vergeltung! / Er selbst wird euch befreien!"5 Dann lässt er Blinde wieder sehen / und schenkt den Tauben das Gehör.6 Der Lahme springt dann wie ein Hirsch, / der Stumme jubelt froh. / In der Wüste brechen Quellen auf, / in der Steppe fließen Bäche.7 Der Glutsand wird zu einem Teich, / das dürre Land sprudelt Wasser hervor. / Da wo jetzt Schakale hausen, / ist dann ein Platz für Schilf und Rohr.8 Eine Straße wird es dort geben, / man nennt sie den heiligen Weg. / Kein unreiner Mensch darf auf ihm gehen, / er ist nur für Gottes Volk. / Selbst Unkundige finden den Weg / und werden nicht in die Irre geführt.9 Es wird keinen Löwen dort geben, / kein Raubtier lauert auf ihr. / Nur die Erlösten wandern darauf.10 Die von Jahwe Befreiten kehren heim. / Mit Jubel kommen sie nach Zion zurück. / Aus ihren Augen strahlt unendliches Glück. / Wonne und Freude stellen sich ein, / Kummer und Seufzen sind für immer vorbei.
