1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of Jehovah been revealed?

2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender sapling, and as a root out of dry ground: he hath no form nor lordliness, and when we see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

3 He is despised and left alone of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief, and like one from whom {men} hide their faces; -despised, and we esteemed him not.

4 Surely *he* hath borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; and we, we did regard him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his stripes we are healed.

6 All we like sheep have gone astray, we have turned every one to his own way; and Jehovah hath laid upon him the iniquity of us all.

7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, but he opened not his mouth; he was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and was as a sheep dumb before her shearers, and he opened not his mouth.

8 He was taken from oppression and from judgment; and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living; for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

9 And {men} appointed his grave with the wicked, but he was with the rich in his death, because he had done no violence, neither was there guile in his mouth.

10 Yet it pleased Jehovah to bruise him; he hath subjected {him} to suffering. When thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see a seed, he shall prolong {his} days, and the pleasure of Jehovah shall prosper in his hand.

11 He shall see of {the fruit of} the travail of his soul, {and} shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant instruct many in righteousness; and *he* shall bear their iniquities.

12 Therefore will I assign him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong: because he hath poured out his soul unto death, and was reckoned with the transgressors; and he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

1 Chi ha creduto alla nostra predicazione? ed a cui è stato rivelato il braccio del Signore?

2 Or egli è salito, a guisa di rampollo, dinanzi a lui, ed a guisa di radice da terra arida; non vi è stata in lui forma, nè bellezza alcuna; e noi l’abbiamo veduto, e non vi era cosa alcuna ragguardevole, perchè lo desiderassimo.

3 Egli è stato sprezzato, fino a non esser più tenuto nel numero degli uomini; è stato uomo di dolori, ed esperto in languori; è stato come uno dal quale ciascuno nasconde la faccia; è stato sprezzato, talchè noi non ne abbiam fatta alcuna stima

4 Veramente egli ha portati i nostri languori, e si è caricato delle nostre doglie; ma noi abbiamo stimato ch’egli fosse percosso, battuto da Dio, ed abbattuto.

5 Ma egli è stato ferito per li nostri misfatti, fiaccato per le nostre iniquità; il gastigamento della nostra pace è stato sopra lui; e per li suoi lividori noi abbiamo ricevuta guarigione.

6 Noi tutti eravamo erranti, come pecore; ciascun di noi si era volto alla sua via; ma il Signore ha fatta avvenirsi in lui l’iniquità di tutti noi.

7 Egli è stato oppressato, ed anche afflitto, e pur non ha aperta la bocca; è stato menato all’uccisione, come un agnello; ed è stato come una pecora mutola davanti a quelli che la tosano, e non ha aperta la bocca.

8 Egli è stato assunto fuor di distretta, e di giudicio; e chi potrà narrar la sua età, dopo ch’egli sarà stato reciso dalla terra dei viventi; e che, per li misfatti del mio popolo, egli sarà stato carico di piaghe?

9 Or la sua sepoltura era stata ordinata co’ malfattori; ma egli è stato col ricco nella sua morte, la quale egli ha sofferta, senza ch’egli avesse commessa alcuna violenza, e chi vi fosse alcuna frode nella sua bocca

10 Ma il Signore l’ha voluto fiaccare, e l’ha addogliato. Dopo che l’anima sua si sarà posta per sacrificio per la colpa, egli vedrà progenie, prolungherà i giorni, e il beneplacito del Signore prospererà nella sua mano.

11 Egli vedrà il frutto della fatica dell’anima sua, e ne sarà saziato; il mio Servitor giusto ne giustificherà molti per la sua conoscenza, ed egli stesso si caricherà delle loro iniquità.

12 Perciò, io gli darò parte fra i grandi, ed egli partirà le spoglie co’ potenti; perciocchè avrà esposta l’anima sua alla morte, e sarà stato annoverato co’ trasgressori, ed avrà portato il peccato di molti, e sarà interceduto per i trasgressori
