1 And it came to pass a long time after that Jehovah had given rest to Israel from all their enemies round about, and Joshua had become old, advanced in age, 2 that Joshua called for all Israel, for their elders, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers, and said unto them, I am become old, advanced in age; 3 and ye have seen all that Jehovah your GodGodHebrew: Elohim hath done to all these nations because of you. For Jehovah your GodGodHebrew: Elohim is he that hath fought for you. 4 Behold, I have divided unto you by lot for an inheritance, according to your tribes, these nations that remain, from the Jordan, as well as all the nations that I have cut off, as far as the great sea toward the sun-setting. 5 And Jehovah your GodGodHebrew: Elohim he will expel them from before you, and dispossess them from out of your sight; and ye shall take possession of their land, as Jehovah your GodGodHebrew: Elohim hath said unto you. 6 And be ye very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, that ye turn not aside therefrom to the right hand or to the left; 7 that ye enter not among these nations, these that remain among you; and ye shall make no mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow yourselves unto them; 8 but ye shall cleave unto Jehovah your GodGodHebrew: Elohim as ye have done unto this day. 9 For Jehovah hath dispossessed from before you great and strong nations; and as to you, no man hath been able to stand before you unto this day. 10 One man of you chaseth a thousand; for Jehovah your GodGodHebrew: Elohim he it is that fighteth for you, as he hath said unto you.
11 Take great heed therefore unto your souls, that ye love Jehovah your GodGodHebrew: Elohim12 For if ye in any wise go back, and cleave unto the residue of these nations, these that remain among you, and make marriages with them, and come in unto them and they unto you: 13 know for a certainty that Jehovah your GodGodHebrew: Elohim will no more dispossess these nations from before you, and they shall be snares and traps unto you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until ye perish from off this good land which Jehovah your GodGodHebrew: Elohim hath given you. 14 And behold, I am going this day the way of all the earth; and ye know in all your heart, and in all your soul, that not one thing hath failed of all the good words that Jehovah your GodGodHebrew: Elohim hath spoken concerning you: all are come to pass unto you — not one thing hath failed thereof. 15 But it shall come to pass, that as every good word hath been fulfilled to you, that Jehovah your GodGodHebrew: Elohim spoke to you, so will Jehovah bring upon you every evil word, until he have destroyed you from off this good land which Jehovah your GodGodHebrew: Elohim hath given you; 16 when ye transgress the covenant of Jehovah your GodGodHebrew: Elohim which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods, and bow yourselves unto them, so that the anger of Jehovah shall be kindled against you, and ye shall perish quickly from off the good land which he hath given unto you.
1 Y ACONTECIÓ, pasados muchos días después que 23.1 cp. 21.44 y 22.4.Jehová dió reposo á Israel de todos sus enemigos al contorno, que Josué, 23.1 cp. 13.1.siendo viejo, y entrado en días,
2 Llamó á 23.2 Dt. 31.28. cp. 24.1todo Israel, á sus ancianos, á sus príncipes, á sus jueces y á sus 23.2 cp. 1.10.oficiales, y díjoles: Yo soy ya viejo y entrado en días:
3 Y vosotros habéis visto todo lo que Jehová vuestro Dios ha hecho con todas estas gentes en vuestra presencia; 23.3 Ex. 14.14.porque Jehová vuestro Dios ha peleado por vosotros.
4 He aquí 23.4 cp. 13.6.os he repartido por suerte, en herencia para vuestras tribus, estas gentes, así las destruídas como las que quedan, desde el Jordán hasta la 23.4 cp. 15.12.gran mar hacia donde el sol se pone.
5 Y Jehová vuestro Dios las echará de delante de vosotros, y las lanzará de vuestra presencia: y vosotros poseeréis sus tierras, 23.5 Nm. 33.53.como Jehová vuestro Dios os ha dicho.
6 23.6 cp. 1.7. Esforzaos pues mucho á guardar y hacer todo lo que está escrito en el libro de la ley de Moisés, 23.6 Dt. 5.32.sin apartaros de ello ni á la diestra ni á la siniestra;
7 23.7 Ex. 23.33. Dt. 7.2,3. Que cuando entrareis á estas gentes que han quedado con vosotros, 23.7 Ex. 23.13. Jer. 5.7.no hagáis mención ni juréis por el nombre de sus dioses, ni los sirváis, ni os inclinéis á ellos:
8 Mas á Jehová vuestro Dios os allegaréis, como habéis hecho hasta hoy;
9 Pues ha echado Jehová delante de vosotros grandes y fuertes naciones, y hasta hoy 23.9 cp. 10.8 y 21.44.nadie ha podido parar delante de vuestro rostro.
10 23.10 Jue. 3.31 y 15.15. 2 S. 23.8. Un varón de vosotros perseguirá á mil: porque Jehová vuestro Dios pelea por vosotros, como él os dijo.
11 Por tanto, cuidad mucho por vuestras almas, que améis á Jehová vuestro Dios.
12 Porque si os apartareis, y os allegareis á lo que resta de aquestas gentes que han quedado con vosotros, 23.12 Ex. 34.16.y si concertareis con ellas matrimonios, y entrareis á ellas, y ellas á vosotros;
13 Sabed 23.13 Jue. 2.3,21. Véase cp. 13.6.que Jehová vuestro Dios no echará más estas gentes delante de vosotros; antes 23.13 Nm. 33.55. 1 R. 11.4.os serán por lazo, y por tropiezo, y por azote para vuestros costados, y por espinas para vuestros ojos, hasta tanto que perezcáis de aquesta buena tierra que Jehová vuestro Dios os ha dado.
14 Y he aquí que 23.14 1 R. 2.2.yo estoy para entrar hoy por el camino de toda la tierra: reconoced, pues, con todo vuestro corazón y con toda vuestra alma, 23.14 cp. 21.45.que no se ha perdido una palabra de todas la buenas palabras que Jehová vuestro Dios había dicho de vosotros: todas os han venido, no se ha perdido de ellas ni una.
15 Mas será, que como ha venido sobre vosotros toda palabra buena que Jehová vuestro Dios os había dicho, así también traerá Jehová sobre vosotros toda palabra mala, hasta destruiros de sobre la buena tierra que Jehová vuestro Dios os ha dado;
16 Cuando 23.16 Dt. 17.2.traspasareis el pacto de Jehová vuestro Dios que él os ha mandado, yendo y honrando dioses ajenos, é inclinándoos á ellos. Y el furor de Jehová se inflamará contra vosotros, y luego pereceréis de aquesta buena tierra que él os ha dado.
