1 Og du menneskesønn, ta dig et skarpt sverd! Bruk det som en rakekniv og la det gå over ditt hode og skjegg, og ta dig så en skålvekt og del både hår og skjegg.

2 En tredjedel skal du brenne op midt i byen, når kringsetningsdagene er til ende, og en tredjedel skal du ta og hugge i med sverdet rundt omkring byen, og en tredjedel skal du sprede for vinden, og med draget sverd vil jeg forfølge dem.

3 Men nogen få hår skal du ta unda, og dem skal du knytte inn i dine kjortelfliker,

4 og av dem skal du igjen ta nogen og kaste dem midt i ilden og brenne dem op; derfra skal det gå ut ild til alt Israels hus.

5 Så sier Herren, Israels Gud: Dette Jerusalem satte jeg midt iblandt hedningefolkene og la land rundt omkring det;

6 men det var gjenstridig mot mine lover, så det var mere ugudelig enn hedningefolkene, og mot mine bud, så det var mere ugudelig enn landene rundt omkring det; for de forkastet mine lover og fulgte ikke mine bud.

7 Derfor sier Herren, Israels Gud, så: Fordi I har rast verre enn folkene som bor rundt omkring eder, fordi I ikke har fulgt mine bud og ikke gjort efter mine lover og ikke engang gjort efter de folks lover som bor rundt omkring eder,

8 derfor sier Herren, Israels Gud, så: Se, jeg kommer over dig, jeg og, og jeg vil holde dom hos dig for folkenes øine,

9 og jeg vil gjøre med dig hvad jeg ikke før har gjort og aldri mere vil gjøre maken til - for alle dine vederstyggeligheters skyld.

10 Derfor skal foreldre ete sine barn hos dig, og barn ete sine foreldre, og jeg vil holde dom hos dig og sprede alt som blir igjen av dig, for alle vinder.

11 Derfor, så sant jeg lever, sier Herren, Israels Gud, sannelig, fordi du har gjort min helligdom uren med alle dine avskyeligheter og alle dine vederstyggeligheter, så vil også jeg vende mitt øie bort fra dig uten skånsel og ikke spare dig.

12 Tredjedelen av dig skal dø av pest og fortæres av hunger midt i dig, og tredjedelen skal falle for sverd rundt omkring dig, og tredjedelen vil jeg sprede for alle vinder og forfølge med draget sverd.

13 Og min vrede skal uttømmes, og jeg vil stille min harme på dem og ta hevn, og de skal kjenne at jeg, Herren, har talt i min nidkjærhet, når jeg uttømmer min harme på dem.

14 Og jeg vil gjøre dig* til en ørken og til en spott blandt folkene som bor rundt omkring dig, for øinene på hver den som går forbi. / {* Jerusalem.}

15 Du skal bli til spott og hån, til en advarsel og en forferdelse for folkene som bor rundt omkring dig, når jeg holder dom over dig med vrede og harme og med harmfulle tuktelser - jeg, Herren, har talt -

16 når jeg sender inn blandt dem hungerens onde piler, som er til ødeleggelse, dem som jeg sender for å ødelegge eder, når jeg hoper op hunger over eder og sønderbryter brødets stav for eder.

17 Jeg vil sende hunger over eder og ville dyr, og de skal gjøre dig barnløs, og pest og blod skal gå over dig, og sverd vil jeg la komme over dig; jeg, Herren, har talt.

1 And thou, son of man, take thee a sharp sword; as a barber’s razor shalt thou take it unto thee, and shalt cause it to pass upon thy head and upon thy beard: then take thee balances to weigh, and divide the hair. 2 A third part shalt thou burn in the fire in the midst of the city, when the days of the siege are fulfilled; and thou shalt take a third part, and smite with the sword round about it; and a third part thou shalt scatter to the wind, and I will draw out a sword after them. 3 And thou shalt take thereof a few in number, and bind them in thy skirts. 4 And of these again shalt thou take, and cast them into the midst of the fire, and burn them in the fire; therefrom shall a fire come forth into all the house of Israel.

5 Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: This is Jerusalem; I have set her in the midst of the nations, and countries are round about her. 6 And she hath rebelled against mine ordinances in doing wickedness more than the nations, and against my statutes more than the countries that are round about her; for they have rejected mine ordinances, and as for my statutes, they have not walked in them. 7 Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Because ye are turbulent more than the nations that are round about you, and have not walked in my statutes, neither have kept mine ordinances, neither have done after the ordinances of the nations that are round about you; 8 therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I, even I, am against thee; and I will execute judgments in the midst of thee in the sight of the nations. 9 And I will do in thee that which I have not done, and whereunto I will not do any more the like, because of all thine abominations. 10 Therefore the fathers shall eat the sons in the midst of thee, and the sons shall eat their fathers; and I will execute judgments on thee; and the whole remnant of thee will I scatter unto all the winds. 11 Wherefore, as I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, surely, because thou hast defiled my sanctuary with all thy detestable things, and with all thine abominations, therefore will I also diminish thee; neither shall mine eye spare, and I also will have no pity. 12 A third part of thee shall die with the pestilence, and with famine shall they be consumed in the midst of thee; and a third part shall fall by the sword round about thee; and a third part I will scatter unto all the winds, and will draw out a sword after them.

13 Thus shall mine anger be accomplished, and I will cause my wrath toward them to rest, and I shall be comforted: and they shall know that I, Jehovah, have spoken in my zeal, when I have accomplished my wrath upon them. 14 Moreover I will make thee a desolation and a reproach among the nations that are round about thee, in the sight of all that pass by. 15 So it shall be a reproach and a taunt, an instruction and an astonishment, unto the nations that are round about thee, when I shall execute judgments on thee in anger and in wrath, and in wrathful rebukes (I, Jehovah, have spoken it); 16 when I shall send upon them the evil arrows of famine, that are for destruction, which I will send to destroy you. And I will increase the famine upon you, and will break your staff of bread; 17 and I will send upon you famine and evil beasts, and they shall bereave thee; and pestilence and blood shall pass through thee; and I will bring the sword upon thee: I, Jehovah, have spoken it.
