1 Dette utsagn er Herrens ord mot Hadraks land*; også i Damaskus skal det slå sig ned - for Herren har øie med menneskene og med alle Israels stammer - / {* visstnok et lite rike i Syria.}

2 likeså i Hamat, som grenser til det, også i Tyrus og Sidon, fordi de der er så kloke.

3 Tyrus bygget sig en festning, og det dynget op sølv som støv og fint gull som skarn på gatene.

4 Se, Herren skal la fremmede få det til eie og styrte dets murer i havet, og selv skal det fortæres av ild.

5 Askalon ser det og frykter, og Gasa, som vrir sig i angst, likeså Ekron, fordi dets håp* er blitt til skamme; Gasa skal miste sin konge, og i Askalon skal ingen bo. / {* d.e. Tyrus.}

6 I Asdod skal det bare bo fremmed pakk, og jeg vil utrydde filistrenes stolthet,

7 jeg vil ta offerblodet* ut av deres munn og det vederstyggelige offerkjøtt bort fra deres tenner; og da skal det også av dem bli igjen en rest for vår Gud, og de skal være som fyrster i Juda, og Ekron skal være som en jebusitt**. / {* SLM 16, 4.} / {** d.e. innlemmes blandt Guds folk, likesom jebusittene av David blev innlemmet i det; 2SA 24, 18 fg. 1KR 21, 18 fg.}

8 Og jeg vil slå leir til vern for mitt hus mot krigshærer som kommer og går, og ingen voldsherre skal mere komme over dem; for nu ser jeg med egne øine hvorledes det er.

9 Fryd dig storlig, Sions datter! Rop høit, Jerusalems datter! Se, din konge kommer til dig, rettferdig er han og full av frelse*, fattig og ridende på et asen, på aseninnens unge fole. / {* HEB 5, 7. 9.}

10 Og jeg vil utrydde vognene i Efra'im og hestene i Jerusalem, og alle krigsbuer skal utryddes, Og han skal tale fred til hedningene, og hans herredømme skal nå fra hav til hav og fra elven til jordens ender.

11 For ditt paktsblods skyld vil jeg også fri dine fanger ut av brønnen som det ikke er vann i.

12 Vend tilbake til festningen, I fanger som har håp! Også idag forkynner jeg at jeg vil gi eder dobbelt igjen.

13 For jeg spenner Juda som min bue og legger Efra'im på buen, og jeg egger dine sønner, Sion, mot dine sønner, Javan*, og jeg gjør dig lik en kjempes sverd. / {* d.e. Grekenland.}

14 Og Herren skal åpenbare sig over dem, og hans pil skal fare ut som lynet; Herren, Israels Gud, skal støte i basunen og fare frem i sønnenstormene.

15 Herren, hærskarenes Gud, skal verne dem, og de skal opsluke sine fiender og trå dem under føtter som slyngestener*; de skal drikke deres blod og larme som av vin, og de skal bli fulle av blodet som offerskålen, som alterets hjørner**. / {* Fienden lignes med ringe stener, motsatt kronestenene; SKR 9, 16.} / {** 2MO 29, 12.}

16 Og Herren deres Gud skal frelse dem på den dag, han skal frelse sitt folk som en hjord; for de er som edelstener i en krone og stråler over hans land*; / {* 2SA 12, 30.}

17 for hvor herlig er det ikke, og hvor fagert! Av dets korn skal unge menn og av dets vin jomfruer blomstre op.

1 The burden of the word of Jehovah upon the land of Hadrach, and Damascus shall be its resting-place (for the eye of man and of all the tribes of Israel is toward Jehovah); 2 and Hamath, also, which bordereth thereon; Tyre and Sidon, because they are very wise. 3 And Tyre did build herself a stronghold, and heaped up silver as the dust, and fine gold as the mire of the streets. 4 Behold, the Lord will dispossess her, and he will smite her power in the sea; and she shall be devoured with fire. 5 Ashkelon shall see it, and fear; Gaza also, and shall be sore pained; and Ekron, for her expectation shall be put to shame; and the king shall perish from Gaza, and Ashkelon shall not be inhabited. 6 And a bastard shall dwell in Ashdod, and I will cut off the pride of the Philistines. 7 And I will take away his blood out of his mouth, and his abominations from between his teeth; and he also shall be a remnant for our God; and he shall be as a chieftain in Judah, and Ekron as a Jebusite.

8 And I will encamp about my house against the army, that none pass through or return; and no oppressor shall pass through them any more: for now have I seen with mine eyes.

9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy king cometh unto thee; he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, even upon a colt the foal of an ass. 10 And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem; and the battle bow shall be cut off; and he shall speak peace unto the nations: and his dominion shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.

11 As for thee also, because of the blood of thy covenant I have set free thy prisoners from the pit wherein is no water. 12 Turn you to the stronghold, ye prisoners of hope: even to-day do I declare that I will render double unto thee. 13 For I have bent Judah for me, I have filled the bow with Ephraim; and I will stir up thy sons, O Zion, against thy sons, O Greece, and will make thee as the sword of a mighty man. 14 And Jehovah shall be seen over them; and his arrow shall go forth as the lightning; and the Lord Jehovah will blow the trumpet, and will go with whirlwinds of the south. 15 Jehovah of hosts will defend them; and they shall devour, and shall tread down the sling-stones; and they shall drink, and make a noise as through wine; and they shall be filled like bowls, like the corners of the altar. 16 And Jehovah their God will save them in that day as the flock of his people; for they shall be as the stones of a crown, lifted on high over his land. 17 For how great is his goodness, and how great is his beauty! grain shall make the young men flourish, and new wine the virgins.
