1 Und der Knabe Samuel diente Jahwe vor Eli. Und das Wort Jahwes war selten in jenen Tagen, Gesichte waren nicht häufig. Eig. verbreitet

2 Und es geschah in selbiger Zeit, als Eli an seinem Orte lag seine Augen aber hatten begonnen, blöde zu werden, er konnte nicht sehen

3 und die Lampe Gottes war noch nicht erloschen, und Samuel lag im Tempel Jahwes, woselbst die Lade Gottes war,

4 da rief Jahwe den Samuel. Und er sprach: Hier bin ich!

5 Und er lief zu Eli und sprach: Hier bin ich, denn du hast mich gerufen. Aber er sprach: Ich habe nicht gerufen, lege dich wieder. O. gehe wieder hin, lege dich. So auch [V. 6] Und er ging hin und legte sich.

6 Und Jahwe rief wiederum: Samuel! Und Samuel stand auf und ging zu Eli und sprach: Hier bin ich, denn du hast mich gerufen. Und er sprach: Ich habe nicht gerufen, mein Sohn, lege dich wieder.

7 Samuel aber kannte Jahwe noch nicht, und das Wort Jahwes war ihm noch nicht geoffenbart.

8 Und Jahwe rief wiederum zum dritten Male: Samuel! Und er stand auf und ging zu Eli und sprach: Hier bin ich, denn du hast mich gerufen. Da erkannte Eli, daß Jahwe den Knaben rief.

9 Und Eli sprach zu Samuel: Gehe hin, lege dich; und es geschehe, wenn man O. er dich ruft, so sprich: Rede, Jahwe, denn dein Knecht hört. Und Samuel ging hin und legte sich an seinen Ort.

10 Und Jahwe kam und trat hin und rief wie die anderen Male: Samuel, Samuel! Und Samuel sprach: Rede, denn dein Knecht hört.

11 Da sprach Jahwe zu Samuel: Siehe, ich will eine Sache tun in Israel, daß jedem, der sie hört, seine beiden Ohren gellen sollen.

12 An selbigem Tage werde ich wider Eli alles ausführen, was ich über sein Haus geredet habe: ich werde beginnen und vollenden.

13 Denn ich habe ihm kundgetan, daß ich sein Haus richten will ewiglich, um der Ungerechtigkeit willen, die er gewußt hat, daß O. weil seine Söhne sich den Fluch zuzogen, Und. l.: Gott verachteten und er ihnen nicht gewehrt hat.

14 Und darum habe ich dem Hause Elis geschworen: Wenn Ungerechtigkeit des Hauses Elis gesühnt werden soll durch Schlachtopfer und durch Speisopfer ewiglich!

15 Und Samuel lag bis zum Morgen; da tat er die Tür Eig. die Türflügel des Hauses Jahwes auf. Und Samuel fürchtete sich, Eli das Gesicht kundzutun.

16 Da rief Eli den Samuel und sprach: Samuel, mein Sohn! Und er sprach: Hier bin ich!

17 Und er sprach: Was ist das Wort, das er zu dir geredet hat? Verhehle es mir doch nicht. So tue dir Gott und so füge er hinzu, wenn du mir etwas verhehlst von allem, was er zu dir geredet hat!

18 Da tat ihm Samuel alle die Worte kund und verhehlte ihm nichts. Und er sprach: Er ist Jahwe; er tue, was gut ist in seinen Augen.

19 Und Samuel wurde groß; und Jahwe war mit ihm und ließ keines von allen seinen Worten auf die Erde fallen.

20 Und ganz Israel, von Dan bis Beerseba, erkannte, daß Samuel als Prophet Jahwes bestätigt war.

21 Und Jahwe fuhr fort in Silo zu erscheinen; denn Jahwe offenbarte sich dem Samuel in Silo durch das Wort Jahwes. Und das Wort Samuels erging an ganz Israel.

1 And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision. 2 And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see; 3 And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep; 4 That the LORD called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I. 5 And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down. 6 And the LORD called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again. 7 Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed unto him. 8 And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child. 9 Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place. 10 And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.

11 And the LORD said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle. 12 In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end. 13 For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not. 14 And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.

15 And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the LORD. And Samuel feared to shew Eli the vision. 16 Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here am I. 17 And he said, What is the thing that the Lord hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide it not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide any thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee. 18 And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the LORD: let him do what seemeth him good.

19 And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground. 20 And all Israel from Dan even to Beer-sheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the LORD. 21 And the LORD appeared again in Shiloh: for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the LORD.
