1 Zwölf [2.Kön 21] Jahre war Manasse alt, als er König wurde, und er regierte fünfundfünfzig Jahre zu Jerusalem.

2 Und er tat, was böse war in den Augen Jahwes, nach den Greueln der Nationen, die Jahwe vor den Kindern Israel ausgetrieben hatte.

3 Und er baute die Höhen wieder auf, die sein Vater Jehiskia niedergerissen hatte, und errichtete den Baalim Altäre, und machte Ascheroth, und beugte sich nieder vor dem ganzen Heere des Himmels und diente ihnen.

4 Und er baute Altäre in dem Hause Jahwes, von welchem Jahwe gesagt hatte: In Jerusalem soll mein Name sein ewiglich!

5 Und er baute dem ganzen Heere des Himmels Altäre in den beiden Höfen des Hauses Jahwes.

6 Und er ließ seine Söhne durchs Feuer gehen im Tale des Sohnes Hinnoms, und er trieb Zauberei und Wahrsagerei und Beschwörung, und bestellte Totenbeschwörer und Wahrsager: er tat viel Böses in den Augen Jahwes, um ihn zu reizen.

7 Und er stellte das geschnitzte Bild des Gleichnisses, das er gemacht hatte, in das Haus Gottes, von welchem Gott zu David und zu seinem Sohne Salomo gesagt hatte: In dieses Haus und in Jerusalem, das ich aus allen Stämmen Israels erwählt habe, will ich meinen Namen setzen ewiglich!

8 Und ich will den Fuß Israels nicht mehr aus dem Lande weichen lassen, welches ich euren Vätern bestimmt habe, wenn sie nur darauf achten, alles zu tun, was ich ihnen geboten habe, nach dem ganzen Gesetz und den Satzungen und den Rechten durch Mose.

9 Aber Manasse verleitete Juda und die Bewohner von Jerusalem, mehr Böses zu tun, als die Nationen, welche Jahwe vor den Kindern Israel vertilgt hatte.

10 Und Jahwe redete zu Manasse und zu seinem Volke; aber sie merkten nicht darauf.

11 Da ließ Jahwe die Heerobersten des Königs von Assyrien über sie kommen; und sie nahmen Manasse gefangen Eig. sie fingen Manasse mit Haken und banden ihn mit ehernen Fesseln Eig. Doppelfesseln, wie [Ri 16,21]; so auch [Kap. 36,6] und führten ihn nach Babel.

12 Und als er bedrängt war, flehte er Jahwe, seinen Gott, an und demütigte sich sehr vor dem Gott seiner Väter und betete zu ihm;

13 und er ließ sich von ihm erbitten und erhörte sein Flehen, und brachte ihn nach Jerusalem in sein Königreich zurück. Da erkannte Manasse, daß Jahwe Gott W. der Gott ist.

14 Und hernach baute er die äußere Mauer der Stadt Davids, westlich gegen den Gihon hin, im Tale, und bis zum Eingang des Fischtores, und umgab den Ophel S. die Anm. zu [Kap. 27,3] mit einer Mauer und machte sie sehr hoch. Und er legte Kriegsoberste in alle festen Städte in Juda.

15 Und er tat die Götter der Fremde hinweg und das Gleichnis aus dem Hause Jahwes, und alle Altäre, die er auf dem Berge des Hauses Jahwes und in Jerusalem gebaut hatte; und er warf sie hinaus außerhalb der Stadt.

16 Und er baute den Altar Jahwes wieder auf Nach and. L.: richtete auf und opferte auf demselben Friedens- und Dankopfer; und er befahl Juda, daß sie Jahwe, dem Gott Israels, dienen sollten.

17 Aber das Volk opferte noch auf den Höhen, wiewohl Jahwe, ihrem Gott.

18 Und das Übrige der Geschichte Manasses, und sein Gebet zu seinem Gott, und die Worte der Seher, die zu ihm redeten im Namen Jahwes, des Gottes Israels, siehe, das ist geschrieben in der Geschichte der Könige von Israel.

19 Sein Gebet aber, und wie Gott sich von ihm erbitten ließ, W. das sich von ihm Erbittenlassen und alle seine Sünde und seine Untreue, und die Orte, an welchen er Höhen gebaut und die Ascherim und die geschnitzten Bilder aufgestellt hatte, bevor er sich demütigte: siehe, das ist geschrieben in der Geschichte Hosais.

20 Und Manasse legte sich zu seinen Vätern, und man begrub ihn in seinem Hause. Und Amon, sein Sohn, ward König an seiner Statt.

21 Zweiundzwanzig [2.Kön 21,19] Jahre war Amon alt, als er König wurde, und er regierte zwei Jahre zu Jerusalem.

22 Und er tat, was böse war in den Augen Jahwes, wie sein Vater Manasse getan hatte; und Amon opferte allen geschnitzten Bildern, welche sein Vater Manasse gemacht hatte, und diente ihnen.

23 Und er demütigte sich nicht vor Jahwe, wie sein Vater Manasse sich gedemütigt hatte; sondern er, Amon, häufte die Schuld.

24 Und seine Knechte machten eine Verschwörung wider ihn und töteten ihn in seinem Hause.

25 Da erschlug das Volk des Landes alle, die sich wider den König Amon verschworen hatten; und das Volk des Landes machte Josia, seinen Sohn, zum König an seiner Statt.

1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem: 2 But did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, like unto the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.

3 For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down, and he reared up altars for Baalim, and made groves, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them. 4 Also he built altars in the house of the LORD, whereof the LORD had said, In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever. 5 And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD. 6 And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger. 7 And he set a carved image, the idol which he had made, in the house of God, of which God had said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen before all the tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever: 8 Neither will I any more remove the foot of Israel from out of the land which I have appointed for your fathers; so that they will take heed to do all that I have commanded them, according to the whole law and the statutes and the ordinances by the hand of Moses. 9 So Manasseh made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to err, and to do worse than the heathen, whom the LORD had destroyed before the children of Israel. 10 And the LORD spake to Manasseh, and to his people: but they would not hearken.

11 Wherefore the LORD brought upon them the captains of the host of the king of Assyria, which took Manasseh among the thorns, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon. 12 And when he was in affliction, he besought the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, 13 And prayed unto him: and he was intreated of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD he was God. 14 Now after this he built a wall without the city of David, on the west side of Gihon, in the valley, even to the entering in at the fish gate, and compassed about Ophel, and raised it up a very great height, and put captains of war in all the fenced cities of Judah. 15 And he took away the strange gods, and the idol out of the house of the LORD, and all the altars that he had built in the mount of the house of the LORD, and in Jerusalem, and cast them out of the city. 16 And he repaired the altar of the LORD, and sacrificed thereon peace offerings and thank offerings, and commanded Judah to serve the LORD God of Israel. 17 Nevertheless the people did sacrifice still in the high places, yet unto the LORD their God only.

18 Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and his prayer unto his God, and the words of the seers that spake to him in the name of the LORD God of Israel, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel. 19 His prayer also, and how God was intreated of him, and all his sin, and his trespass, and the places wherein he built high places, and set up groves and graven images, before he was humbled: behold, they are written among the sayings of the seers.

20 So Manasseh slept with his fathers, and they buried him in his own house: and Amon his son reigned in his stead.

21 Amon was two and twenty years old when he began to reign, and reigned two years in Jerusalem. 22 But he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, as did Manasseh his father: for Amon sacrificed unto all the carved images which Manasseh his father had made, and served them; 23 And humbled not himself before the LORD, as Manasseh his father had humbled himself; but Amon trespassed more and more. 24 And his servants conspired against him, and slew him in his own house.

25 But the people of the land slew all them that had conspired against king Amon; and the people of the land made Josiah his son king in his stead.
