1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is begotten of God: and whosoever loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. 2 Hereby we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and do his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. 4 For whatsoever is begotten of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that hath overcome the world, even our faith. 5 And who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? 6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and with the blood. 7 And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is the truth. 8 For there are three who bear witness, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and the three agree in one. 9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for the witness of God is this, that he hath borne witness concerning his Son. 10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in him: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he hath not believed in the witness that God hath borne concerning his Son. 11 And the witness is this, that God gave unto us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath the life; he that hath not the Son of God hath not the life. 13 These things have I written unto you, that ye may know that ye have eternal life, even unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God. 14 And this is the boldness which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us: 15 and if we know that he heareth us whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him. 16 If any man see his brother sinning a sin not unto death, he shall ask, and God will give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: not concerning this do I say that he should make request. 17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death. 18 We know that whosoever is begotten of God sinneth not; but he that was begotten of God keepeth him, and the evil one toucheth him not. 19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in the evil one. 20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. 21 My little children, guard yourselves from idols.

1 Todo aquele que crê que Jesus é o Cristo é nascido de Deus, e quem ama aquele que o gerou ama também o que dele é nascido. 2 Nisto sabemos que amamos os filhos de Deus: quando amamos a Deus e praticamos os seus mandamentos. 3 Porque este é o amor de Deus: que guardemos os seus mandamentos. E os seus mandamentos não são difíceis de guardar. 4 Porque todo o que é nascido de Deus vence o mundo. E esta é a vitória que vence o mundo: a nossa fé. 5 Quem é o que vence o mundo, senão aquele que crê que Jesus é o Filho de Deus?

6 Este é aquele que veio por meio de água e sangue, Jesus Cristo. Ele não veio somente com a água, mas com a água e com o sangue. E o Espírito é o que dá testemunho, porque o Espírito é a verdade. 7 Pois há três que dão testemunho: 8 o Espírito, a água e o sangue, e os três são unânimes num só propósito. 9 Se aceitamos o testemunho dos homens, o testemunho de Deus é maior. E este é o testemunho de Deus, que ele dá a respeito do seu Filho. 10 Aquele que crê no Filho de Deus tem, nele, esse testemunho. Aquele que não dá crédito a Deus faz de Deus um mentiroso, porque não crê no testemunho que Deus dá a respeito do seu Filho. 11 E o testemunho é este: que Deus nos deu a vida eterna, e esta vida está no seu Filho. 12 Quem tem o Filho tem a vida; quem não tem o Filho de Deus não tem a vida.

13 Estas coisas escrevi a vocês que creem no nome do Filho de Deus para que saibam que têm a vida eterna. 14 E esta é a confiança que temos para com ele: que, se pedirmos alguma coisa segundo a sua vontade, ele nos ouve. 15 E, se sabemos que ele nos ouve quanto ao que lhe pedimos, estamos certos de que obtemos os pedidos que lhe temos feito.

16 Se alguém vê o seu irmão cometer pecado que não leva à morte, pedirá, e Deus dará vida a esse irmão. Isso aos que cometem pecados que não levam à morte. Há pecado que leva à morte, e por esse não digo que se deva pedir. 17 Toda injustiça é pecado, e há pecado que não leva à morte.

18 Sabemos que todo aquele que é nascido de Deus não vive em pecado, porque quem é nascido de Deus guarda a si mesmo, e o Maligno não pode tocar nele. 19 Sabemos que somos de Deus e que o mundo inteiro jaz no Maligno.

20 Também sabemos que o Filho de Deus já veio e nos tem dado entendimento para reconhecermos aquele que é o Verdadeiro. E nós estamos naquele que é o Verdadeiro, em seu Filho, Jesus Cristo. Este é o verdadeiro Deus e a vida eterna. 21 Filhinhos, cuidado com os ídolos!
