1 Let as many as are servants under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and the doctrine be not blasphemed. 2 And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but let them serve them the rather, because they that partake of the benefit are believing and beloved. These things teach and exhort. 3 If any man teacheth a different doctrine, and consenteth not to sound words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; 4 he is puffed up, knowing nothing, but doting about questionings and disputes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, 5 wranglings of men corrupted in mind and bereft of the truth, supposing that godliness is a way of gain. 6 But godliness with contentment is great gain: 7 for we brought nothing into the world, for neither can we carry anything out; 8 but having food and covering we shall be therewith content. 9 But they that desire to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and hurtful lusts, such as drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil: which some reaching after have been led astray from the faith, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith, lay hold on the life eternal, whereunto thou wast called, and didst confess the good confession in the sight of many witnesses. 13 I charge thee in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and of Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed the good confession; 14 that thou keep the commandment, without spot, without reproach, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: 15 which in its own times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; 16 who only hath immortality, dwelling in light unapproachable; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power eternal. Amen. 17 Charge them that are rich in this present world, that they be not highminded, nor have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; 18 that they do good, that they be rich in good works, that they be ready to distribute, willing to communicate; 19 laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on the life which is life indeed. 20 O Timothy, guard that which is committed unto thee, turning away from the profane babblings and oppositions of the knowledge which is falsely so called; 21 which some professing have erred concerning the faith. 1 Todos os servos que estão debaixo de jugo considerem dignos de toda honra o próprio senhor, para que o nome de Deus e a doutrina não sejam difamados. 2 Também os que têm senhor crente não o tratem com desrespeito, porque é irmão; pelo contrário, trabalhem ainda mais, pois ele, que partilha do seu bom serviço, é crente e amado. Ensine e recomende estas coisas.

3 Se alguém ensina outra doutrina e não concorda com as sãs palavras de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo e com o ensino segundo a piedade, 4 esse é orgulhoso e não entende nada, mas tem um desejo doentio por discussões e brigas a respeito de palavras. É daí que nascem a inveja, a provocação, as difamações, as suspeitas malignas 5 e as polêmicas sem fim da parte de pessoas cuja mente é pervertida e que estão privadas da verdade, supondo que a piedade é fonte de lucro.

6 De fato, grande fonte de lucro é a piedade com o contentamento. 7 Porque nada trouxemos para o mundo, nem coisa alguma podemos levar dele. 8 Tendo sustento e com que nos vestir, estejamos contentes. 9 Mas os que querem ficar ricos caem em tentação, em armadilhas e em muitos desejos insensatos e nocivos, que levam as pessoas a se afundar na ruína e na perdição. 10 Porque o amor ao dinheiro é a raiz de todos os males; e alguns, nessa cobiça, se desviaram da fé e atormentaram a si mesmos com muitas dores.

11 Mas você, homem de Deus, fuja de tudo isso. Siga a justiça, a piedade, a fé, o amor, a perseverança, a mansidão. 12 Combata o bom combate da fé. Tome posse da vida eterna, para a qual você também foi chamado e da qual fez a boa confissão diante de muitas testemunhas. 13 Diante de Deus, que preserva a vida de todas as coisas, e diante de Cristo Jesus, que, na presença de Pôncio Pilatos, fez a boa confissão, eu exorto você 14 a guardar este mandato imaculado, irrepreensível, até a manifestação de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, 15 a qual, no tempo certo, há de ser revelada pelo bendito e único Soberano, o Rei dos reis e Senhor dos senhores, 16 o único que possui imortalidade, que habita em luz inacessível, a quem ninguém jamais viu, nem é capaz de ver. A ele honra e poder eterno. Amém!

17 Exorte os ricos deste mundo a que não sejam orgulhosos, nem depositem a sua esperança na instabilidade da riqueza, mas em Deus, que tudo nos proporciona ricamente para o nosso prazer. 18 Que eles façam o bem, sejam ricos em boas obras, generosos em dar e prontos a repartir; 19 ajuntando para si mesmos um tesouro que é sólido fundamento para o futuro, a fim de tomarem posse da verdadeira vida.

20 E você, ó Timóteo, guarde o que lhe foi confiado, evitando os falatórios inúteis e profanos e as contradições daquilo que falsamente chamam de "conhecimento", 21 pois alguns, professando-o, se desviaram da fé.
