Jeremiah 47

Judgment on the Philistines

1 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet *ch. 25:20;Ezek. 25:15,16;Zeph. 2:5concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh struck down *Amos 1:6,7;Zeph. 2:4Gaza.

2 "Thus says the Lord:

*[ch. 46:7,8;Isa. 8:7] Behold, waters are rising *See ch. 1:13out of the north,

*[ch. 46:7,8;Isa. 8:7] and shall become an overflowing torrent;

they shall overflow *[ch. 8:16]the land and all that fills it,

the city and those who dwell in it.

Men shall cry out,

and every inhabitant of the land shall wail.

3 At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his stallions,

*Nah. 3:2at the rushing of his chariots, at the rumbling of their wheels,

the fathers *ch. 46:5look not back to their children,

so feeble are their hands,

4 because of the day that is coming to destroy

all *[See ver. 1above] the Philistines,

to cut off from *Isa. 23:1,2;Joel 3:4;See ch. 25:22Tyre and Sidon

every helper that remains.

For the Lord is destroying the Philistines,

*ch. 25:20;[Judg. 1:18] Ashkelon has perished.

O remnant of their valley,

How long till you are quiet?

Put yourself into your scabbard;

rest and be still!
