Micah 1

1 The word of the Lord that came to Micah [ver. 14] of Moresheth Isa. 1:1in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw Amos 1:1concerning Isa. 7:9;Jer. 23:13Samaria and Jerusalem.

The Coming Destruction

See Isa. 1:2pay attention, O earth, and all that is in it,

and Mal. 3:5let the Lord God be a witness against you,

Ps. 11:4;Jonah 2:7;Hab. 2:20the Lord from his holy temple.

3 For behold, Isa. 26:21the Lord is coming out of Ps. 115:3his place,

and will come down and Amos 4:13;[Deut. 32:13]tread upon the high places of the earth.

4 And Ps. 97:5;[Judg. 5:5;Amos 9:5,13;Nah. 1:5]the mountains will melt under him,

and the valleys will split open,

like wax before the fire,

like waters poured down a steep place.

5 All this is for See ch. 3:8the transgression of Jacob

and for the sins of the house of Israel.

[ver. 13] What is the transgression of Jacob?

Is it not [See ver. 1above] Samaria?

And what is [2 Chr. 28:4]the high place of Judah?

Is it not Jerusalem?

6 Therefore I will make [See ver. 1above] Samaria [ch. 3:12] a heap in the open country,

a place for planting vineyards,

and I will pour down her stones [1 Kgs. 16:24] into the valley

and Ezek. 13:14uncover her foundations.

7 All [Hos. 8:6] her carved images shall be beaten to pieces,

[Hos. 2:12;9:1]all her wages shall be burned with fire,

and all her idols I will lay waste,

for from [Hos. 2:12;9:1]the fee of a prostitute she gathered them,

and to the fee of a prostitute they shall return.

8 [Isa. 22:4] For this I will lament and wail;

I will go See Isa. 20:2-4stripped and naked;

I will make lamentation Job 30:29;Ps. 44:19like the jackals,

and mourning Isa. 13:21like the ostriches.

9 [Hos. 5:13]For her wound is incurable,

and it has come to Judah;

it has reached to the gate of my people,

to Jerusalem.

10 2 Sam. 1:20Tell it not in See 1 Sam. 17:4Gath;

weep not at all;

in Beth-le-aphrah

[Jer. 6:26]roll yourselves in the dust.

11 Pass on your way,

inhabitants of Shaphir,

[Isa. 20:4;47:3]in nakedness and shame;

the inhabitants of Zaanan

do not come out;

the lamentation of Beth-ezel

shall take away from you its standing place.

12 For the inhabitants of Maroth

wait anxiously for good,

because disaster has come down See Amos 3:6from the Lord

to the gate of Jerusalem.

13 Harness the steeds to the chariots,

inhabitants of Josh. 10:3;2 Kgs. 18:14,17;2 Chr. 32:9Lachish;

it was the beginning of sin

to the daughter of Zion,

for in you were found

[ver. 5; Hos. 13:1]the transgressions of Israel.

14 Therefore you shall give parting gifts1:14 Or give dowry

to [ver. 1] Moresheth-gath;

the houses of Josh. 15:44Achzib shall be a deceitful thing

to the kings of Israel.

15 I will again bring [ch. 2:4;Jer. 6:12] a conqueror to you,

inhabitants of [See ver. 14above] Mareshah;

the glory of Israel

shall come to See 1 Sam. 22:1,2Adullam.

16 See Isa. 22:12Make yourselves bald and cut off your hair,

for the children of your delight;

See Isa. 22:12make yourselves as bald as the eagle,

for they shall go from you into exile.
