1 The word of the Lord that came to Micah [ver. 14] of Moresheth Isa. 1:1in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw Amos 1:1concerning Isa. 7:9;Jer. 23:13Samaria and Jerusalem.
The Coming Destruction
2 ch. 3:1,9;6:1,2;See Hos. 5:1Hear, you peoples, all of you;1:2 Hebrew all of them
See Isa. 1:2pay attention, O earth, and all that is in it,
and Mal. 3:5let the Lord God be a witness against you,
Ps. 11:4;Jonah 2:7;Hab. 2:20the Lord from his holy temple.
3 For behold, Isa. 26:21the Lord is coming out of Ps. 115:3his place,
and will come down and Amos 4:13;[Deut. 32:13]tread upon the high places of the earth.
4 And Ps. 97:5;[Judg. 5:5;Amos 9:5,13;Nah. 1:5]the mountains will melt under him,
and the valleys will split open,
like wax before the fire,
like waters poured down a steep place.
5 All this is for See ch. 3:8the transgression of Jacob
and for the sins of the house of Israel.
[ver. 13] What is the transgression of Jacob?
Is it not [See ver. 1above] Samaria?
And what is [2 Chr. 28:4]the high place of Judah?
Is it not Jerusalem?
6 Therefore I will make [See ver. 1above] Samaria [ch. 3:12] a heap in the open country,
a place for planting vineyards,
and I will pour down her stones [1 Kgs. 16:24] into the valley
and Ezek. 13:14uncover her foundations.
7 All [Hos. 8:6] her carved images shall be beaten to pieces,
[Hos. 2:12;9:1]all her wages shall be burned with fire,
and all her idols I will lay waste,
for from [Hos. 2:12;9:1]the fee of a prostitute she gathered them,
and to the fee of a prostitute they shall return.
8 [Isa. 22:4] For this I will lament and wail;
I will go See Isa. 20:2-4stripped and naked;
I will make lamentation Job 30:29;Ps. 44:19like the jackals,
and mourning Isa. 13:21like the ostriches.
9 [Hos. 5:13]For her wound is incurable,
and it has come to Judah;
it has reached to the gate of my people,
to Jerusalem.
10 2 Sam. 1:20Tell it not in See 1 Sam. 17:4Gath;
weep not at all;
in Beth-le-aphrah
[Jer. 6:26]roll yourselves in the dust.
11 Pass on your way,
inhabitants of Shaphir,
[Isa. 20:4;47:3]in nakedness and shame;
the inhabitants of Zaanan
do not come out;
the lamentation of Beth-ezel
shall take away from you its standing place.
12 For the inhabitants of Maroth
wait anxiously for good,
because disaster has come down See Amos 3:6from the Lord
to the gate of Jerusalem.
13 Harness the steeds to the chariots,
inhabitants of Josh. 10:3;2 Kgs. 18:14,17;2 Chr. 32:9Lachish;
it was the beginning of sin
to the daughter of Zion,
for in you were found
[ver. 5; Hos. 13:1]the transgressions of Israel.
14 Therefore you shall give parting gifts1:14 Or give dowry
to [ver. 1] Moresheth-gath;
the houses of Josh. 15:44Achzib shall be a deceitful thing
to the kings of Israel.
15 I will again bring [ch. 2:4;Jer. 6:12] a conqueror to you,
inhabitants of [See ver. 14above] Mareshah;
the glory of Israel
shall come to See 1 Sam. 22:1,2Adullam.
16 See Isa. 22:12Make yourselves bald and cut off your hair,
for the children of your delight;
See Isa. 22:12make yourselves as bald as the eagle,
for they shall go from you into exile.
