God’s Wrath Against Nineveh

the Lord is avenging and wrathful;

Who can endure the heat of his anger?

8 But *[Isa. 30:28] with an overflowing flood

he will make a complete end of the adversaries,*1:8 Hebrew of her place

and *Isa. 8:22will pursue his enemies into darkness.

9 What *[Isa. 10:7] do you plot against the Lord?

*[Jer. 4:27]He will make a complete end;

trouble will not rise up a second time.

10 For they are *See Mic. 7:4like entangled thorns,

like drunkards as they drink;

*See Joel 2:5they are consumed like stubble fully dried.

11 From you came one

*[ver. 9; 2 Kgs. 19:22,23]who plotted evil against the Lord,

a worthless counselor.

12 Thus says the Lord,

"Though they are at full strength and many,

*Isa. 10:33,34;[Isa. 37:36] they will be cut down and pass away.

*ver. 9;[Isa. 9:1]Though I have afflicted you,

I will afflict you no more.

13 And now *[Isa. 9:4;10:27;14:25]I will break his yoke from off you

and will burst your bonds apart."

14 The Lord has given commandment about you:

*[Ps. 109:13] "No more shall your name be perpetuated;

from *[2 Kgs. 19:37] the house of your gods I will cut off

the carved image and the metal image.
