2 When, therefore, thou art doing alms, sound not a trumpet before thee, as do the assumers of faces in the assemblies and streets, so that they may be praised from men; and, Amen I say to you, they receive their reward.3 But thou, when thou art doing thy alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth,4 that thine alms may be in secret; and thy Father, who seeth in secret, shall recompense thee in openness.
