51 Right then the veil of the Temple was torn apart from top to bottom. The ground shook, the rocks split apart, 52 and the graves were opened. Many of those who had lived good lives and had fallen asleep in death were raised to life. 53 After the resurrection of Jesus they went out from the graveyards into the holy city* where many people saw them.

54 When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and what happened, they were terrified, and said, "This really was the Son of God!"
