1 These also are the places which the children of Israel inherited in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the Priest, and Ioshua the sonne of Nun and the chiefe fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel, distributed to them, 2 By the lot of their inheritance, as the Lord had commanded by the hande of Moses, to giue to the nine tribes, and the halfe tribe. 3 For Moses had giuen inheritance vnto two tribes and an halfe tribe, beyond Iorde: but vnto the Leuites he gaue none inheritance among them. 4 For the childre of Ioseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim: therefore they gaue no part vnto the Leuites in the lande, saue cities to dwell in, with the suburbes of the same for their beastes and their substance. 5 As the Lord had commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did when they deuided the land. 6 Then the children of Iudah came vnto Ioshua in Gilgal: and Caleb the sonne of Iephunneh the Kenezite saide vnto him, Thou knowest what the Lord saide vnto Moses the man of God, concerning me and thee in Kadesh-barnea. 7 Fourtie yeere olde was I, when Moses the seruant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh-barnea to espie the land, and I brought him word againe, as I thought in mine heart. 8 But my brethren that went vp with me, discouraged the heart of the people: yet I followed still the Lord my God. 9 Wherefore Moses sware the same day, saying, Certainely the land whereon thy feete haue troden, shalbe thine inheritance, and thy childrens for euer, because thou hast followed constantly the Lord my God. 10 Therefore beholde nowe, the Lord hath kept me aliue, as he promised: this is the fourtie and fift yeere since the Lord spake this thing vnto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wildernes: and nowe loe, I am this day foure score and fiue yeere olde: 11 And yet am as strong at this time, as I was when Moses sent me: as strong as I was then, so strong am I nowe, either for warre, or for gouernment. 12 Nowe therefore giue me this mountaine whereof ye Lord spake in that day (for thou heardest in that day, how the Anakims were there, and the cities great and walled) if so be the Lord will be with me, that I may driue them out, as the Lord said. 13 Then Ioshua blessed him, and gaue vnto Caleb the sonne of Iephunneh, Hebron for an inheritance. 14 Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the sonne of Iephunneh the Kenezite, vnto this day: because he followed constantly the Lord God of Israel. 15 And the name of Hebron was before time, Kiriath-arba: which Arba was a great man amog the Anakims: thus the land ceassed from warre.

1 ESTO pues es lo que los hijos de Israel tomaron por heredad en la tierra de Canaán, lo cual les repartieron Eleazar sacerdote, y Josué hijo de Nun, y los principales de los padres de las tribus de los hijos de Israel.2 Por suerte dióseles su heredad, como Jehová lo había mandado por Moisés, que diese á las nueve tribus y á la media tribu.3 Porque á las dos tribus, y á la media tribu, les había Moisés dado heredad de la otra parte del Jordán: mas á los Levitas no dió heredad entre ellos.4 Porque los hijos de José fueron dos tribus, Manasés y Ephraim: y no dieron parte á los Levitas en la tierra, sino ciudades en que morasen, con sus ejidos para sus ganados y rebaños.5 De la manera que Jehová lo había mandado á Moisés, así lo hicieron los hijos de Israel en el repartimiento de la tierra.6 Y los hijos de Judá vinieron á Josué en Gilgal; y Caleb, hijo de Jephone Cenezeo, le dijo: Tú sabes lo que Jehová dijo á Moisés, varón de Dios, en Cades-barnea, tocante á mí y á ti.7 Yo era de edad de cuarenta años, cuando Moisés siervo de Jehová me envió de Cades-barnea á reconocer la tierra; y yo le referí el negocio como lo tenía en mi corazón:8 Mas mis hermanos, los que habían subido conmigo, menguaron el corazón del pueblo; empero yo cumplí siguiendo á Jehová mi Dios.9 Entonces Moisés juró, diciendo: Si la tierra que holló tu pie no fuere para ti, y para tus hijos en herencia perpetua: por cuanto cumpliste siguiendo á Jehová mi Dios.10 Ahora bien, Jehová me ha hecho vivir, como él dijo, estos cuarenta y cinco años, desde el tiempo que Jehová habló estas palabras á Moisés, cuando Israel andaba por el desierto: y ahora, he aquí soy hoy día de ochenta y cinco años:11 Pero aun hoy estoy tan fuerte como el día que Moisés me envió: cual era entonces mi fuerza, tal es ahora, para la guerra, y para salir y para entrar.12 Dame, pues, ahora este monte, del cual habló Jehová aquel día; porque tú oíste en aquel día que los Anaceos están allí, y grandes y fuertes ciudades. Quizá Jehová será conmigo, y los echaré como Jehová ha dicho.13 Josué entonces le bendijo, y dió á Caleb hijo de Jephone á Hebrón por heredad.14 Por tanto Hebrón fué de Caleb, hijo de Jephone Cenezeo, en heredad hasta hoy; porque cumplió siguiendo á Jehová Dios de Israel.15 Mas Hebrón fué antes llamada Chîriath-arba; fué Arba un hombre grande entre los Anaceos. Y la tierra tuvo reposo de las guerras.
