1 Tutti gl’Israeliti furono registrati nelle genealogie, e si trovano iscritti nel libro dei re d’Israele. Giuda fu menato in cattività a Babilonia, a motivo delle sue infedeltà.

2 Or i primi abitanti che si stabilirono nei loro possessi e nelle loro città, erano Israeliti, sacerdoti, Leviti e Nethinei.

3 A Gerusalemme si stabilirono dei figliuoli di Giuda, dei figliuoli di Beniamino, e dei figliuoli di Efraim e di Manasse.

4 Dei figliuoli di Perets, figliuolo di Giuda: Uthai, figliuolo di Ammihud, figliuolo di Omri, figliuolo di mri, figliuolo di Bani.

5 Dei Sciloniti: Asaia il primogenito, e i suoi figliuoli.

6 Dei figliuoli di Zerah: Jeuel e i suoi fratelli: seicentonovanta in tutto.

7 Dei figliuoli di Beniamino: Sallu, figliuolo di Meshullam, figliuolo di Hodavia, figliuolo di Hassena;

8 Jbneia, figliuolo di Jeroham; Ela, figliuolo di Uzzi, figliuolo di Micri; Meshullam, figliuolo di Scefatia, figliuolo di Reuel, figliuolo d’Jbnia;

9 e i loro fratelli, secondo le loro generazioni, novecentocinquantasei in tutto. Tutti questi erano capi delle rispettive case patriarcali.

10 Dei sacerdoti: Jedaia, Jehoiarib, Jakin,

11 Azaria, figliuolo di Hilkia, figliuolo di Meshullam, figliuolo di Tsadok, figliuolo di Meraioth, figliuolo di Ahitub, preposto alla casa di Dio,

12 Adaia, figliuolo di Jeroham, figliuolo di Pashur, figliuolo di Malkija; Maesai, figliuolo di Adiel, figliuolo di Jahzera, figliuolo di Meshullam, figliuolo di Mescillemith, figliuolo di Immer;

13 e i loro fratelli, capi delle rispettive case patriarcali: millesettecento sessanta, uomini valentissimi, occupati a compiere il servizio della casa di Dio.

14 Dei Leviti: Scemaia, figliuolo di Hasshub, figliuolo di Azrikam, figliuolo di Hashabia, dei figliuoli di erari;

15 Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal, Mattania, figliuolo di Mica, figliuolo di Zicri, figliuolo di Asaf;

16 Obadia, figliuolo di Scemaia, figliuolo di Galal, figliuolo di Jeduthun; Berakia, figliuolo di Asa, figliuolo di Elkana, che abitava nei villaggi dei Netofatiti.

17 Dei portinai: Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman e i loro fratelli; Shallum era il capo;

18 e tale è rimasto fino al di d’oggi, alla porta del re che è ad oriente. Essi son quelli che furono i portieri del campo dei figliuoli di Levi.

19 Shallum, figliuolo di Kore, figliuolo di Ebiasaf, figliuolo di Korah, e i suoi fratelli, i Korahiti, della casa di suo padre, erano preposti all’opera del servizio, custodendo le porte del tabernacolo; i loro padri rano stati preposti al campo dell’Eterno per custodirne l’entrata;

20 e Fineas, figliuolo di Eleazaro, era stato anticamente loro capo; e l’Eterno era con lui.

21 Zaccaria, figliuolo di Mescelemia, era portiere all’ingresso della tenda di convegno.

22 Tutti questi che furono scelti per essere custodi alle porte erano in numero di duecentododici, ed erano iscritti nelle genealogie, secondo i loro villaggi. Davide e Samuele il veggente li aveano stabiliti nel loro ufficio.

23 Essi e i loro figliuoli erano preposti alla custodia delle porte della casa dell’Eterno, cioè della casa del tabernacolo.

24 V’erano dei portinai ai quattro lati: a oriente, a occidente, a settentrione e a mezzogiorno.

25 I loro fratelli, che dimoravano nei loro villaggi, doveano di quando in quando venire a stare dagli altri, per sette giorni;

26 poiché i quattro capi portinai, Leviti, erano sempre in funzione, ed avevano anche la sorveglianza delle camere e dei tesori della casa di Dio,

27 e passavano la notte intorno alla casa di Dio, perché aveano l’incarico di custodirla e a loro spettava l’aprirla tutte le mattine.

28 Alcuni d’essi dovean prender cura degli arredi del culto, ch’essi contavano quando si portavano nel tempio e quando si riportavan fuori.

29 Altri aveano l’incarico di custodire gli utensili, tutti i vasi sacri, il fior di farina, il vino, l’olio, l’incenso e gli aromi.

30 Quelli che preparavano i profumi aromatici erano figliuoli di sacerdoti.

31 Mattithia, uno dei Leviti, primogenito di Shallum il Korahita, avea l’ufficio di badare alle cose che si dovean cuocere sulla gratella.

32 E alcuni dei loro fratelli, tra i Kehathiti, erano incaricati di preparare per ogni sabato i pani della presentazione.

33 Tali sono i cantori, capi delle famiglie levitiche che dimoravano nelle camere del tempio ed erano esenti da ogni altro servizio, perché l’ufficio loro li teneva occupati giorno e notte.

34 Tali sono i capi delle famiglie levitiche, capi secondo le loro generazioni; essi stavano a Gerusalemme.

35 A Gabaon abitavano Jeiel, padre di Gabaon, la cui moglie si chiamava Maaca,

36 Abdon, suo figliuolo primogenito, Tsur-Kis,

37 Baal, Ner, Nadab, Ghedor, Ahio, Zaccaria e Mikloth. Mikloth generò Scimeam.

38 Anch’essi dimoravano dirimpetto ai loro fratelli a Gerusalemme coi loro fratelli.

39 Ner generò Kis; Kis generò Saul; Saul generò Gionathan, Malkishua, Abinadab ed Eshbaal.

40 Il figliuolo di Gionathan fu Merib-Baal, e Merib-Baal generò Mica.

41 Figliuoli di Mica: Pithon, Melec, Taharea ed Ahaz.

42 Ahaz generò Jarah; Jarah generò Alemeth, Azmaveth e Zimri. Zimri generò Motsa.

43 Motsa generò Binea, che ebbe per figliuolo Refaia, che ebbe per figliuolo Eleasa, che ebbe per figliuolo Atsel.

44 Atsel ebbe sei figliuoli, dei quali questi sono i nomi: Azrikam, Bocru, Ismaele, Scearia, Obadia e anan. Questi sono i figliuoli di Atsel.

1 So all Israel were reckoned by genealogies; and, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel: and Judah was carried away captive to Babylon for their transgression. 2 Now the first inhabitants that dwelt in their possessions in their cities were Israel, the priests, the Levites, and the Nethinim. 3 And in Jerusalem dwelt of the children of Judah, and of the children of Benjamin, and of the children of Ephraim and Manasseh: 4 Uthai the son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, of the children of Perez the son of Judah. 5 And of the Shilonites: Asaiah the first-born, and his sons. 6 And of the sons of Zerah: Jeuel, and their brethren, six hundred and ninety. 7 And of the sons of Benjamin: Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hassenuah, 8 and Ibneiah the son of Jeroham, and Elah the son of Uzzi, the son of Michri, and Meshullam the son of Shephatiah, the son of Reuel, the son of Ibnijah; 9 and their brethren, according to their generations, nine hundred and fifty and six. All these men were heads of fathers’ houses by their fathers’ houses.

10 And of the priests: Jedaiah, and Jehoiarib, Jachin, 11 and Azariah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the ruler of the house of God; 12 and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah, and Maasai the son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer; 13 and their brethren, heads of their fathers’ houses, a thousand and seven hundred and threescore; very able men for the work of the service of the house of God.

14 And of the Levites: Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari; 15 and Bakbakkar, Heresh, and Galal, and Mattaniah the son of Mica, the son of Zichri, the son of Asaph, 16 and Obadiah the son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah the son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, that dwelt in the villages of the Netophathites.

17 And the porters: Shallum, and Akkub, and Talmon, and Ahiman, and their brethren (Shallum was the chief), 18 who hitherto waited in the king’s gate eastward: they were the porters for the camp of the children of Levi. 19 And Shallum the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brethren, of his father’s house, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, keepers of the thresholds of the tent: and their fathers had been over the camp of Jehovah, keepers of the entry. 20 And Phinehas the son of Eleazar was ruler over them in time past, and Jehovah was with him. 21 Zechariah the son of Meshelemiah was porter of the door of the tent of meeting. 22 All these that were chosen to be porters in the thresholds were two hundred and twelve. These were reckoned by genealogy in their villages, whom David and Samuel the seer did ordain in their office of trust. 23 So they and their children had the oversight of the gates of the house of Jehovah, even the house of the tent, by wards. 24 On the four sides were the porters, toward the east, west, north, and south. 25 And their brethren, in their villages, were to come in every seven days from time to time to be with them: 26 for the four chief porters, who were Levites, were in an office of trust, and were over the chambers and over the treasuries in the house of God. 27 And they lodged round about the house of God, because the charge thereof was upon them; and to them pertained the opening thereof morning by morning.

28 And certain of them had charge of the vessels of service; for by count were these brought in and by count were these taken out. 29 Some of them also were appointed over the furniture, and over all the vessels of the sanctuary, and over the fine flour, and the wine, and the oil, and the frankincense, and the spices. 30 And some of the sons of the priests prepared the confection of the spices. 31 And Mattithiah, one of the Levites, who was the first-born of Shallum the Korahite, had the office of trust over the things that were baked in pans. 32 And some of their brethren, of the sons of the Kohathites, were over the showbread, to prepare it every sabbath.

33 And these are the singers, heads of fathers’ houses of the Levites, who dwelt in the chambers and were free from other service; for they were employed in their work day and night. 34 These were heads of fathers’ houses of the Levites, throughout their generations, chief men: these dwelt at Jerusalem.

35 And in Gibeon there dwelt the father of Gibeon, Jeiel, whose wife’s name was Maacah; 36 and his first-born son Abdon, and Zur, and Kish, and Baal, and Ner, and Nadab, 37 and Gedor, and Ahio, and Zechariah, and Mikloth. 38 And Mikloth begat Shimeam. And they also dwelt with their brethren in Jerusalem, over against their brethren. 39 And Ner begat Kish; and Kish begat Saul; and Saul begat Jonathan, and Malchishua, and Abinadab, and Eshbaal. 40 And the son of Jonathan was Merib-baal; and Merib-baal begat Micah. 41 And the sons of Micah: Pithon, and Melech, and Tahrea, and Ahaz. 42 And Ahaz begat Jarah; and Jarah begat Alemeth, and Azmaveth, and Zimri; and Zimri begat Moza; 43 and Moza begat Binea; and Rephaiah his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son. 44 And Azel had six sons, whose names are these: Azrikam, Bocheru, and Ishmael, and Sheariah, and Obadiah, and Hanan: these were the sons of Azel.
