1 Poi il Signore parlò a Giobbe, e disse:
2 Colui che litiga con l’Onnipotente lo correggerà egli? Colui che arguisce Iddio risponda a questo.
3 E Giobbe rispose al Signore, e disse:
4 Ecco, io sono avvilito; che ti risponderei io? Io metto la mia mano in su la bocca.
5 Io ho parlato una volta, ma non replicherò più; Anzi due, ma non continuerò più
6 E il Signore parlò di nuovo a Giobbe dal turbo, e disse:
7 Cingiti ora i lombi, come un valente uomo; Io ti farò delle domande, e tu insegnami.
8 Annullerai tu pure il mio giudicio, E mi condannerai tu per giustificarti?
9 Hai tu un braccio simile a quel di Dio? O tuoni tu con la voce come egli?
10 Adornati pur di magnificenza e di altezza; E vestiti di maestà e di gloria.
11 Spandi i furori dell’ira tua, E riguarda ogni altiero, ed abbassalo;
12 Riguarda ogni altiero, ed atterralo; E trita gli empi, e spronfondali;
13 Nascondili tutti nella polvere, E tura loro la faccia in grotte;
14 Allora anch’io ti darò questa lode, Che la tua destra ti può salvare
15 Ecco l’ippopotamo, il quale io ho fatto teco; Egli mangia l’erba come il bue.
16 Ecco, la sua forza è ne’ lombi, E la sua possa nei muscoli del suo ventre.
17 Egli rizza la sua coda come un cedro; Ed i nervi delle sue coscie sono intralciati.
18 Le sue ossa son come sbarre di rame, Come mazze di ferro.
19 Egli è la principale delle opere di Dio; Sol colui che l’ha fatto può accostargli la sua spada.
20 Perchè i monti gli producono il pasco, Tutte le bestie della campagna vi scherzano.
21 Egli giace sotto gli alberi ombrosi, In ricetti di canne e di paludi.
22 Gli alberi ombrosi lo coprono con l’ombra loro; I salci de’ torrenti l’intorniano.
23 Ecco, egli può far forza ad un fiume, sì che non corra; Egli si fida di potersi attrarre il Giordano nella gola.
24 Prenderallo alcuno alla sua vista? Foreragli egli il naso, per mettervi de’ lacci?
1 Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said, 2 Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.
3 Then Job answered the LORD, and said, 4 Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth. 5 Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.
6 Then answered the LORD unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said, 7 Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me. 8 Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous? 9 Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him? 10 Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty. 11 Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him. 12 Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place. 13 Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret. 14 Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee.
15 Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox. 16 Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly. 17 He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together. 18 His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron. 19 He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him. 20 Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play. 21 He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens. 22 The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about. 23 Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth. 24 He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares.
