1 ငါး၏ဝမ်းထဲမှာ နေစဉ်တွင်၊ ယောနသည် မိမိဘုရားသခင် ထာဝရဘုရားကို ဆုတောင်းသောစကားဟူမူကား၊ 2 ငါသည် ဒုက္ခဆင်းရဲကို ခံရသောကြောင့်၊ ထာဝရဘုရားကိုဟစ်ခေါ်၍ ငါ့စကားကို ကြားတော်မူ၏။ မရဏနိုင်ငံ၏ဝမ်းထဲက ဟစ်ခေါ်သော စကားသံကို နားထောင်တော်မူ၏။ 3 ကိုယ်တော်သည် အကျွန်ုပ်ကို နက်နဲသောအရပ်၊ သမုဒ္ဒရာအလယ်ချက်ထဲသို့ ချပစ်တော်မူသဖြင့်၊ ပင်လယ်ရေသည် ဝိုင်း၍ လှိုင်းတံပိုးတော်ရှိသမျှတို့သည် လွှမ်းမွန်းကြပါ၏။ 4 ထိုသို့ မျက်မှောက်တော်မှ နှင်ထုတ်ခြင်းကိုခံရသော်လည်း၊ သန့်ရှင်းသောဗိမာန်တော်ကို မျက်မှောက်ပြုမြဲ ပြုပါမည်ဟု အောက်မေ့လျက်နေ၏။ 5 ရေတို့သည် အကျွန်ုပ်အသက်ကို သေစေခြင်းငှာ ဝိုင်းသဖြင့်၊ အကျွန်ုပ်သည် ပင်လယ်အလယ်၌ အချုပ်ခံရပါ၏။ ပင်လယ်မြက်ပင်သည် အကျွန်ုပ်ခေါင်းကို ပေါင်းစည်းလျက် ရှိပါ၏။ 6 တောင်ခြေရင်းအမြစ်သို့ အကျွန်ုပ်ဆင်း၍၊ မြေကန့်လန့်ကျင်အတွင်း၌ အစဉ်အမြဲပိတ်ထားသော်လည်း၊ အကျွန်ုပ်၏ဘုရားသခင် ထာဝရဘုရား၊ ကိုယ်တော်သည် အကျွန်ုပ်အသက်ကို ပျက်စီးရာမှ ကယ်ဆယ်တော်မူလိမ့်မည်။ 7 အကျွန်ုပ်သည် စိတ်ပျက်သောအခါ ထာဝရဘုရားကို အောက်မေ့၍၊ အကျွန်ုပ်၏ပတ္ထနာသည် သန့်ရှင်းသော ဗိမာန်တော်၌ ကိုယ်တော်ထံသို့ ဝင်ပါ၏။ 8 မုသားအနတ္တကို မှီဝဲသောသူတို့သည် မိမိတို့ ကရုဏာခံရာအကြောင်းကို စွန့်ပစ်ကြပါ၏။ 9 အကျွန်ုပ်မူကား၊ ကျေးဇူးတော်ကို ချီးမွမ်းသောစကားနှင့် ကိုယ်တော်အား ယဇ်ပူဇော်ပါမည်။ သစ္စာကတိထားသည်အတိုင်း သစ္စာဝတ်ကို ပြုပါမည်။ ထာဝရဘုရား၏ကျေးဇူးတော်ကြောင့် ချမ်းသာရပါသည်ဟု ဆုတောင်းလေ၏။ 10 ထိုအခါ ငါးကြီးသည် ထာဝရဘုရား၏ အမိန့်တော်ကိုခံ၍ ယောနကို ကုန်းပေါ်သို့ အန်လေ၏။
1 And Jonah prayed unto Jehovah his GodGodHebrew: Elohim out of the fish’s belly; 2 and he said: I cried by reason of my distress unto Jehovah, and he answered me; Out of the belly of Sheol cried I: thou heardest my voice. 3 For thou didst cast me into the depth, into the heart of the seas, And the flood was round about me: All thy breakers and thy billows are gone over me. 4 And I said, I am cast out from before thine eyes, Yet will I look again toward thy holy temple. 5 The waters encompassed me, to the soul: The deep was round about me, The weeds were wrapped about my head. 6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; The bars of the earth closed upon me for ever: But thou hast brought up my life from the pit, O Jehovah my GodGodHebrew: Elohim7 When my soul fainted within me, I remembered Jehovah; And my prayer came in unto thee, Into thy holy temple. 8 They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy. 9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that which I have vowed. Salvation is of Jehovah.
10 And Jehovah commanded the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.
