1 Méne azért Roboám Jeruzsálembe, és összegyûjté a Júda és Benjámin házát, száznyolczvanezer válogatott hadviselõket[,] hogy hadakoznának Izráel ellen, és visszanyernék az országot Roboámnak.

2 Szóla pedig az Úr Semájának, az Isten emberének, mondván:

3 Mondd meg Roboámnak, Salamon fiának, Júda királyának és az egész Izráelnek Júdában és Benjáminban, így szólván:

4 Ezt mondja az Úr: Ne menjetek fel és ne hadakozzatok atyátokfiai ellen; térjetek meg ki-ki a maga házába, mert én tõlem lett e dolog. És engedének az Úr szavának, és megtérének a helyett, hogy Jeroboám ellen mennének.

5 Lakozék azért Roboám Jeruzsálemben, és megerõsíté a városokat Júdában.

6 Így megépíté Bethlehemet, Etámot és Tékoát,

7 Bethsúrt, Sókót és Adullámot,

8 Gátot, Marésát és Zifet,

9 Adoráimot, Lákist és Azekát,

10 Sorát, Ajalont és Hebront, melyek erõs városok valának Júdában és Benjáminban.

11 És mikor megerõsítette [ez] erõsségeket, helyezett azokba elõljárókat és [szerze] tárházakat eleségnek és bornak és olajnak.

12 És mindenik városban [szerze] paizsokat és kopjákat, és rendkivül megerõsíté azokat. És az övé lõn Júda és Benjámin.

13 Továbbá a papok és a Léviták, a kik az egész Izráelben valának, õ hozzá csatlakozának minden õ határukból;

14 Mert a Léviták elhagyták az õ faluikat és jószágukat, és Júdába és Jeruzsálembe menének, mert kiûzte vala õket Jeroboám és az õ fiai, hogy az Úrnak ne szolgálnának.

15 És rendele magának papokat a magaslatokhoz, a bakokhoz és a borjúkhoz, a melyeket csináltatott vala.

16 És utánuk Izráel minden nemzetségei közül azok, a kik szívök szerint keresték az Urat, Izráelnek Istenét, menének Jeruzsálembe, hogy áldoznának az Úrnak, az õ atyáik Istenének.

17 És megerõsíték Júda országát, és megerõsíték Roboámot, a Salamon fiát három esztendeig; mert három esztendeig járának Dávidnak és Salamonnak útján.

18 És feleségül vevé Roboám Mahalátát, Jérimótnak, a Dávid fiának leányát [és] Abihailt, Eliábnak, az Isai fiának leányát,

19 A ki szüle néki fiakat: Jeust, Semáriát és Zahámot,

20 És õ utána vevé Maakát, az Absolon leányát, a ki szülé néki Abiját, Attait, Zizát és Selómitot.

21 Legjobban szereté pedig Roboám Maakát, az Absolon leányát minden feleségei és ágyasai között; mert tizennyolcz felesége és hatvan ágyasa volt. És nemze huszonnyolcz fiút és hatvan leányt.

22 És Roboám Abiját, a Maaka fiát tette testvérei között vezérré és elõljáróvá, mert õt akará királylyá tenni.

23 És okosan gondolkodván, szétosztá fiait mind Júda és Benjámin földén a megerõsített városokba, a kiknek bõségesen adott eleséget és sok feleséget szerzett számukra.

1 And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin, a hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, that were warriors, to fight against Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam. 2 But the word of Jehovah came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying, 3 Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying, 4 Thus saith Jehovah, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house; for this thing is of me. So they hearkened unto the words of Jehovah, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

5 And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah. 6 He built Beth-lehem, and Etam, and Tekoa, 7 And Beth-zur, and Soco, and Adullam, 8 and Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph, 9 and Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah, 10 and Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities. 11 And he fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and stores of victuals, and oil and wine. 12 And in every city he put shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong. And Judah and Benjamin belonged to him.

13 And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their border. 14 For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons cast them off, that they should not execute the priest’s office unto Jehovah; 15 and he appointed him priests for the high places, and for the he-goats, and for the calves which he had made. 16 And after them, out of all the tribes of Israel, such as set their hearts to seek Jehovah, the God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to sacrifice unto Jehovah, the God of their fathers. 17 So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years; for they walked three years in the way of David and Solomon.

18 And Rehoboam took him a wife, Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, and of Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse; 19 and she bare him sons: Jeush, and Shemariah, and Zaham. 20 And after her he took Maacah the daughter of Absalom; and she bare him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith. 21 And Rehoboam loved Maacah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines (for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines, and begat twenty and eight sons and threescore daughters). 22 And Rehoboam appointed Abijah the son of Maacah to be chief, even the prince among his brethren; for he was minded to make him king. 23 And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, unto every fortified city: and he gave them victuals in abundance. And he sought for them many wives.
