1 And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads. 2 And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: 3 And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth. 4 These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb. 5 And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.

6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, 7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. 8 And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication. 9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, 10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: 11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. 12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. 13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.

14 And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle. 15 And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe. 16 And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped. 17 And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle. 18 And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe. 19 And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. 20 And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.

1 Daarna zag ik het lam op de berg Sion staan, met 144.000 mensen die zijn naam en de naam van zijn Vader op hun voorhoofd hadden staan. 2 Ik hoorde een geluid uit de hemel, dat klonk als het geluid van veel stromend water, als luide donderslagen. Het geluid dat ik hoorde klonk als dat van harpisten die op hun harp spelen. 3 Voor de troon en voor de vier wezens en de oudsten stonden de 144.000 – zij die van op de aarde waren vrijgekocht. Ze zongen een nieuw lied, dat niemand kon leren behalve zij. 4 Zij zijn het die zich niet met vrouwen hebben verontreinigd; ze zijn maagdelijk gebleven. Zij zijn het die het lam volgen, overal waar het heengaat. Zij zijn het die uit de mensheid zijn vrijgekocht om als de eerste opbrengst aan God en het lam te worden aangeboden. 5 Ze waren nooit op een leugen betrapt; ze waren onberispelijk.

6 Toen zag ik hoog in de lucht nog een engel vliegen. Hij had een eeuwig evangelie, dat hij moest verkondigen aan de bewoners van de aarde, aan alle volken, stammen, taalgroepen en naties. 7 Hij riep luid: "Heb ontzag voor God en geef Hem eer, want het tijdstip van zijn Oordeel is aangebroken. Aanbid Hem die de hemel en de aarde, de zee en de waterbronnen heeft gemaakt."

8 Daarna kwam er nog een engel, een tweede. Hij riep luid: "De grote stad Babylon is gevallen! Gevallen is zij die alle volken had laten drinken van de wijn van haar ontucht, de wijn die Gods straf teweegbrengt." 9 Daarna kwam er een derde engel. Hij riep luid: "Wie het beest en het beeld ervan aanbidt en een merkteken op zijn voorhoofd of zijn hand aanvaardt, 10 zal ook drinken van de wijn van Gods toorn; deze zal onverdund in de beker van Gods toorn worden geschonken. Hij zal met brandende zwavel worden gepijnigd in het bijzijn van de heilige engelen en van het lam. 11 Uit het vuur dat hem pijnigt zal voor eeuwig en altijd rook opstijgen. Zij die het beest en het beeld ervan aanbidden en zij die het merkteken van zijn naam op hun voorhoofd aanvaarden, zullen geen rust krijgen, niet overdag en niet 's nachts." 12 De mensen die bij God horen – zij die zich aan Gods geboden houden en Jezus trouw blijven – zullen dan volharding nodig hebben. 13 Toen hoorde ik een stem uit de hemel, die zei: "Schrijf op: Gezegend zijn zij die vanaf nu sterven als mensen die bij God horen. Jazeker, zegt de Geest, zij vinden rust van hun zwoegen en worden beloond voor hetgeen ze hebben gedaan."

14 Daarna zag ik een witte wolk. Op die wolk zat Iemand die op een mensenzoon leek. Hij had een gouden kroon op zijn hoofd en een scherpe sikkel in zijn hand. 15 Toen kwam er opnieuw een engel uit de tempel. Hij riep luid naar de Mensenzoon op de wolk: "Neem uw sikkel ter hand en oogst, want het moment om te oogsten is aangebroken; de oogst op aarde is rijp." 16 Toen maaide de Mensenzoon op de wolk met zijn sikkel over de aarde om daar te oogsten. 17 Toen kwam uit de tempel in de hemel nog een engel. Ook hij had een scherpe sikkel. 18 Bij het altaar vandaan kwam weer een engel; deze had macht over het vuur. Hij riep luid naar de engel met de scherpe sikkel: "Neem je scherpe sikkel ter hand om de trossen van de druivelaar op aarde te snijden, want zijn druiven zijn rijp." 19 Toen maaide die engel met zijn scherpe sikkel over de aarde; hij oogstte van de druivelaar op aarde en gooide de oogst in de grote wijnpers van Gods toorn. 20 De druiven werden geperst buiten de stad en er kwam een grote stroom bloed uit de wijnpers, zo hoog als het bit van een paard en bijna driehonderd kilometer lang.
