1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, What is the vine tree more than any tree, or than a branch which is among the trees of the forest? 3 Shall wood be taken thereof to do any work? or will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon? 4 Behold, it is cast into the fire for fuel; the fire devoureth both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burned. Is it meet for any work? 5 Behold, when it was whole, it was meet for no work: how much less shall it be meet yet for any work, when the fire hath devoured it, and it is burned?

6 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; As the vine tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 7 And I will set my face against them; they shall go out from one fire, and another fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I set my face against them. 8 And I will make the land desolate, because they have committed a trespass, saith the Lord GOD.

1 La parole de l'Eternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:

2 Fils de l'homme, le bois de la vigne, qu'a-t-il de plus que tout autre bois, Le sarment qui est parmi les arbres de la forêt?

3 Prend-on de ce bois pour fabriquer un ouvrage? En tire-t-on une cheville pour y suspendre un objet quelconque?

4 Voici, on le met au feu pour le consumer; Le feu en consume les deux bouts, et le milieu brûle: Sera-t-il bon à quelque chose?

5 Voici, lorsqu'il était entier, on n'en faisait aucun ouvrage; Combien moins, lorsque le feu l'a consumé et qu'il est brûlé, En pourra-t-on faire quelque ouvrage?

6 C'est pourquoi ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Eternel: Comme le bois de la vigne parmi les arbres de la forêt, Ce bois que je livre au feu pour le consumer, Ainsi je livrerai les habitants de Jérusalem.

7 Je tournerai ma face contre eux; Ils sont sortis du feu, et le feu les consumera. Et vous saurez que je suis l'Eternel, Quand je tournerai ma face contre eux.

8 Je ferai du pays un désert, Parce qu'ils ont été infidèles, Dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel.

2 "Figliuol d’uomo, il legno della vite che cos’è egli più di qualunque altro legno? che cos’è il tralcio ch’è fra gli alberi della foresta?

3 Se ne può egli prendere il legno per farne un qualche lavoro? Si può egli trarne un cavicchio da appendervi un qualche oggetto?

4 Ecco, esso è gettato nel fuoco, perché si consumi; il fuoco ne consuma i due capi, e il mezzo si carbonizza; è egli atto a farne qualcosa?

5 Ecco, mentr’era intatto, non se ne poteva fare alcun lavoro; quanto meno se ne potrà fare qualche lavoro, quando il fuoco l’abbia consumato o carbonizzato!

6 Perciò, così parla il Signore, l’Eterno: com’è fra gli alberi della foresta il legno della vite che io destino al fuoco perché lo consumi, così farò degli abitanti di Gerusalemme.

7 Io volgerò la mia faccia contro di loro; dal fuoco sono usciti, e il fuoco li consumerà; e riconoscerete che io sono l’Eterno, quando avrò vòlto la mia faccia contro di loro.

8 E renderò il paese desolato, perché hanno agito in modo infedele, dice il Signore, l’Eterno".
