1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. 2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?
1 Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly—mere infants in Christ. 2 I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. 3 You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans?
1 But I, brothers,3:1 Or brothers and sisters could not address you as ch. 2:15;Rom. 7:14spiritual people, but as [ch. 2:14] people of the flesh, as Heb. 5:13;[ch. 2:6]infants in Christ. 2 Heb. 5:12,13;1 Pet. 2:2I fed you with milk, not solid food, for John 16:12you were not ready for it. And even now you are not yet ready, 3 for you are still of the flesh. For while there is Gal. 5:19,20;[ch. 1:11;11:18;Rom. 13:13]jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way?
1 Dear brothers and sisters,3:1a Greek Brothers. when I was with you I couldn’t talk to you as I would to spiritual people.3:1b Or to people who have the Spirit. I had to talk as though you belonged to this world or as though you were infants in Christ. 2 I had to feed you with milk, not with solid food, because you weren’t ready for anything stronger. And you still aren’t ready, 3 for you are still controlled by your sinful nature. You are jealous of one another and quarrel with each other. Doesn’t that prove you are controlled by your sinful nature? Aren’t you living like people of the world?

1-4 But for right now, friends, I’m completely frustrated by your unspiritual dealings with each other and with God. You’re acting like infants in relation to Christ, capable of nothing much more than nursing at the breast. Well, then, I’ll nurse you since you don’t seem capable of anything more. As long as you grab for what makes you feel good or makes you look important, are you really much different than a babe at the breast, content only when everything’s going your way? When one of you says, "I’m on Paul’s side," and another says, "I’m for Apollos," aren’t you being totally childish?
