- NIV New International Version
21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs2:21 Or took part of the man’s side and then closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib2:22 Or part he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
23 The man said,
"This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man."
24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

- DRA Douay-Rheims American 1899
21 Then the Lord God cast a deep sleep upon Adam: and when he was fast asleep, he took one of his ribs, and filled up flesh for it. 22 And the Lord God built the rib which he took from Adam into a woman: and brought her to Adam. 23 And Adam said: This now is bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, because she was taken out of man. 24 Wherefore a man shall leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they shall be two in one flesh.
- MSG The Message
21,22 God put the Man into a deep sleep. As he slept he removed one of his ribs and replaced it with flesh. God then used the rib that he had taken from the Man to make Woman and presented her to the Man.
23-25 The Man said,
"Finally! Bone of my bone,
flesh of my flesh!
Name her Woman
for she was made from Man."
Therefore a man leaves his father and mother and embraces his wife. They become one flesh.
The two of them, the Man and his Wife, were naked, but they felt no shame.
