1 Paul et Timothée, Serviteurs de Jésus-Christ, à tous les Saints en Jésus-Christ qui sont à Philippes, avec les Evêques et les Diacres.

2 Que la grâce et la paix vous soient données de par Dieu, notre Père, et de par le Seigneur Jésus-Christ.

3 Je rends grâces à mon Dieu toutes les fois que je fais mention de vous.

4 En priant toujours pour vous tous avec joie dans toutes mes prières.

5 A cause de votre attachement à l'Evangile, depuis le premier jour jusqu'à maintenant.

6 Etant assuré de cela même, que celui qui a commencé cette bonne œuvre en vous, l'achèvera jusqu'à la journée de Jésus-Christ :

7 Comme il est juste que je pense ainsi de vous tous, parce que je retiens dans mon cœur que vous avez tous été participants de la grâce avec moi dans mes liens, et dans la défense et la confirmation de l'Evangile.

8 Car Dieu m'est témoin que je vous aime tous tendrement, conformément à la charité de Jésus-Christ.

9 Et je lui demande cette grâce, que votre charité abonde encore de plus en plus avec connaissance et toute intelligence.

10 Afin que vous discerniez les choses contraires, pour être purs et sans achoppement jusqu'à la journée de Christ;

11 Etant remplis de fruits de justice, qui [sont] par Jésus-Christ, à la gloire et à la louange de Dieu.

12 Or mes frères, je veux bien que vous sachiez que les choses qui me sont arrivées, sont arrivées pour un plus grand avancement de l'Evangile.

13 De sorte que mes liens en Christ ont été rendus célèbres dans tout le Prétoire, et partout ailleurs;

14 Et que plusieurs de nos frères en [notre] Seigneur étant rassurés par mes liens, osent annoncer la parole plus hardiment, et sans crainte.

15 Il est vrai que quelques-uns prêchent Christ par envie et par un esprit de dispute; et que les autres le font, au contraire, par une bonne volonté.

16 Les uns, dis-je, annoncent Christ par un esprit de dispute, et non pas purement; croyant ajouter de l'affliction à mes liens.

17 Mais les autres le font par charité, sachant que je suis établi pour la défense de l'Evangile.

18 Quoi donc? toutefois en quelque manière que ce soit, par ostentation, ou par amour de la vérité, Christ est annoncé; et c'est de quoi je me réjouis, et je me réjouirai.

19 Or je sais que ceci me tournera à salut par votre prière, et par le secours de l'Esprit de Jésus-Christ :

20 Selon ma ferme attente et mon espérance, que je ne serai confus en rien; mais qu'en toute assurance, Christ sera maintenant, comme il l'a toujours été, glorifié en mon corps, soit par la vie, soit par la mort.

21 Car Christ m'est gain à vivre et à mourir.

22 Mais s'il m'est utile de vivre en la chair, et ce que je dois choisir, je n'en sais rien.

23 Car je suis pressé des deux [côtés] : mon désir tendant bien à déloger, et à être avec Christ, ce qui m'est beaucoup meilleur;

24 Mais il est plus nécessaire pour vous que je demeure en la chair.

25 Et je sais cela comme tout assuré, que je demeurerai, et que je continuerai d'être avec vous tous pour votre avancement, et pour la joie de [votre] foi;

26 Afin que vous ayez en moi un sujet de vous glorifier de plus en plus en Jésus-Christ, par mon retour au milieu de vous.

27 Seulement conduisez-vous dignement comme il est séant selon l'Evangile de Christ; afin que soit que je vienne, et que je vous voie; soit que je sois absent, j'entende quant à votre état, que vous persistez en un même esprit, combattant ensemble d'un même courage par la foi de l'Evangile, et n'étant en rien épouvantés par les adversaires.

28 Ce qui leur est une démonstration de perdition, mais à vous, de salut; et cela de la part de Dieu.

29 Parce qu'il vous a été gratuitement donné dans ce qui a du rapport à Christ, non seulement de croire en lui, mais aussi de souffrir pour lui;

30 Ayant [à soutenir] le même combat que vous avez vu en moi, et que vous apprenez être maintenant en moi.

1 Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, to all the saints in Christ Jesus that are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons: 2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

3 I thank my God upon all my remembrance of you, 4 always in every supplication of mine on behalf of you all making my supplication with joy, 5 for your fellowship in furtherance of the gospel from the first day until now; 6 being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ: 7 even as it is right for me to be thus minded on behalf of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as, both in my bonds and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers with me of grace. 8 For God is my witness, how I long after you all in the tender mercies of Christ Jesus. 9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and all discernment; 10 so that ye may approve the things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and void of offence unto the day of Christ; 11 being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are through Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

12 Now I would have you know, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the progress of the gospel; 13 so that my bonds became manifest in Christ throughout the whole prætorian guard, and to all the rest; 14 and that most of the brethren in the Lord, being confident through my bonds, are more abundantly bold to speak the word of God without fear. 15 Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will: 16 the one do it of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel; 17 but the other proclaim Christ of faction, not sincerely, thinking to raise up affliction for me in my bonds. 18 What then? only that in every way, whether in pretence or in truth, Christ is proclaimed; and therein I rejoice, yea, and will rejoice. 19 For I know that this shall turn out to my salvation, through your supplication and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, 20 according to my earnest expectation and hope, that in nothing shall I be put to shame, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether by life, or by death. 21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22 But if to live in the flesh,—if this shall bring fruit from my work, then what I shall choose I know not. 23 But I am in a strait betwixt the two, having the desire to depart and be with Christ; for it is very far better: 24 yet to abide in the flesh is more needful for your sake. 25 And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide, yea, and abide with you all, for your progress and joy in the faith; 26 that your glorying may abound in Christ Jesus in me through my presence with you again. 27 Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ: that, whether I come and see you or be absent, I may hear of your state, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one soul striving for the faith of the gospel; 28 and in nothing affrighted by the adversaries: which is for them an evident token of perdition, but of your salvation, and that from God; 29 because to you it hath been granted in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer in his behalf: 30 having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.
