1 Or quand Josué fut devenu vieux, fort avancé en âge, l'Eternel lui dit : Tu es devenu vieux, fort avancé en âge, et il reste encore un fort grand pays à posséder.

2 C'est ici le pays qui demeure de reste, toutes les contrées des Philistins, et tout Guésuri.

3 Depuis Sihor, qui est au devant de l'Egypte, même jusqu'aux frontières de Hekron vers le Septentrion; cela est réputé des Cananéens; [savoir] les cinq gouvernements des Philistins, qui sont celui de Gaza, celui d'Asdod, celui d'Askélon, celui de Gath, et celui de Hekron, et les Hauviens.

4 Du côté du Midi tout le pays des Cananéens, et Méhara qui est aux Sidoniens, jusques vers Aphek, jusqu'aux frontières des Amorrhéens.

5 Le pays aussi qui appartient aux Guibliens, et tout le Liban; vers le soleil levant, depuis Bahal-Gad, sous la montagne de Hermon, jusqu'à l'entrée de Hamath.

6 Tous les habitants de la montagne depuis le Liban jusqu'aux eaux de Masréphoth; tous les Sidoniens; je les chasserai moi-même de devant les enfants d'Israël; fais seulement qu'on en jette [les lots], afin qu'elle soit à Israël en héritage, comme je te l'ai commandé.

7 Maintenant donc divise ce pays en héritage aux neuf Tribus, et à la moitié de la Tribu de Manassé;

8 Avec laquelle les Rubénites et les Gadites ont pris leur héritage; lequel Moïse leur a donné au delà du Jourdain vers l'Orient, selon que Moïse serviteur de l'Eternel le leur a donné;

9 Depuis Haroher, qui est sur le bord du torrent d'Arnon, et la ville qui [est] au milieu du torrent, et tout le plat pays de Médéba, jusqu'à Dibon.

10 Et toutes les villes de Sihon, Roi des Amorrhéens, qui régnait à Hesbon, jusqu'aux limites des enfants de Hammon;

11 Et Galaad, et les limites des Guésuriens et des Mahacathiens, et toute la montagne de Hermon, et tout Basan jusqu'à Salca;

12 Tout le Royaume de Hog en Basan, lequel Hog régnait à Hastaroth, et à Edréhi, [et] était demeuré de reste des Réphaïms, lesquels [Rois] Moïse défit, et les déposséda.

13 (Or les enfants d'Israël ne dépossédèrent point les Guésuriens et les Mahacathiens; mais les Guésuriens et les Mahacathiens ont habité parmi Israël jusqu'à ce jour.)

14 Seulement il ne donna point d'héritage à la Tribu de Lévi; les sacrifices de l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël, faits par feu étant son héritage, comme il lui [en] avait parlé.

15 Moïse donc donna un héritage à la Tribu des enfants de Ruben selon leurs familles.

16 Et leurs bornes furent depuis Haroher qui est sur le bord du torrent d'Arnon, et la ville qui est au milieu du torrent, et tout le plat pays qui est près de Médéba.

17 Hesbon et toutes ses villes, qui étaient au plat pays; Dibon, et Bamoth-Bahal, et Beth-Bahal-mehon.

18 Et Jahatsa, et Kédémoth, et Méphahath.

19 Et Kirjathajim, et Sibma, et Tseretsahar en la montagne de la vallée.

20 Et Beth-Péhor, et Asdoth de Pisga, et Beth-jesimoth.

21 Et toutes les villes du plat pays, et tout le Royaume de Sihon, Roi des Amorrhéens qui régnait à Hesbon ; lequel Moïse défit, avec les principaux de Madian, Evi, Rekem, Tsur, Hur, et Rébah, Princes relevant de Sihon, [et] habitant au pays.

22 Les enfants d'Israël firent passer aussi par l'épée Balaam fils de Béhor, le devin, avec les autres qui y furent tués.

23 Et les bornes des enfants de Ruben furent le Jourdain, et sa borne. Tel fut l'héritage des enfants de Ruben selon leurs familles, [savoir] ces villes-là, et leurs villages.

24 Moïse donna aussi [un héritage] à la Tribu de Gad pour les enfants de Gad, selon leurs familles.

25 Et leur pays fut Jahzer, et toutes les villes de Galaad, et la moitié du pays des enfants de Hammon, jusqu'à Haroher, qui est vis-à-vis de Rabba.

26 Et depuis Hesbon jusqu'à Ramath-mitspé, et Bétonim, et depuis Mahanajim jusqu'aux frontières de Débir.

27 Et dans la vallée, Beth-haram, et Beth-nimra, et Succoth, et Tsaphon; le reste du Royaume de Sihon Roi de Hesbon, le Jourdain, et sa borne, jusqu'au bout de la mer de Kinnereth, au delà du Jourdain, vers l'Orient.

28 Tel fut l'héritage des enfants de Gad, selon leurs familles,; [savoir] ces villes-là et leurs villages.

29 Moïse aussi donna à la moitié de la Tribu de Manassé [un héritage], qui est demeuré à la moitié de la Tribu des enfants de Manassé, selon leurs familles.

30 Leur pays fut depuis Mahanajim, tout Basan, [et] tout le Royaume de Hog, Roi de Basan, et tous les bourgs de Jaïr qui sont en Basan, soixante villes.

31 Et la moitié de Galaad, et Hastaroth, et Edréhi, villes du Royaume de Hog en Basan, furent aux enfants de Makir, fils de Manassé, [savoir] à la moitié des enfants de Makir, selon leurs familles.

32 Ce sont là [les pays] que Moïse [étant] dans les campagnes de Moab avait partagés en héritage, de ce qui était au delà du Jourdain de Jérico, vers l'Orient.

33 Or Moïse ne donna point d'héritage à la Tribu de Lévi; [car] l'Eternel le Dieu d'Israël est leur héritage, comme il leur en a parlé.

1 Now Joshua was old and well stricken in years; and Jehovah said unto him, Thou art old and well stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed. 2 This is the land that yet remaineth: all the regions of the Philistines, and all the Geshurites; 3 from the Shihor, which is before Egypt, even unto the border of Ekron northward, which is reckoned to the Canaanites; the five lords of the Philistines; the Gazites, and the Ashdodites, the Ashkelonites, the Gittites, and the Ekronites; also the Avvim, 4 on the south; all the land of the Canaanites, and Mearah that belongeth to the Sidonians, unto Aphek, to the border of the Amorites; 5 and the land of the Gebalites, and all Lebanon, toward the sunrising, from Baal-gad under mount Hermon unto the entrance of Hamath; 6 all the inhabitants of the hill-country from Lebanon unto Misrephoth-maim, even all the Sidonians; them will I drive out from before the children of Israel: only allot thou it unto Israel for an inheritance, as I have commanded thee. 7 Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance unto the nine tribes, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

8 With him the Reubenites and the Gadites received their inheritance, which Moses gave them, beyond the Jordan eastward, even as Moses the servant of Jehovah gave them: 9 from Aroer, that is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and all the plain of Medeba unto Dibon; 10 and all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, unto the border of the children of Ammon; 11 and Gilead, and the border of the Geshurites and Maacathites, and all mount Hermon, and all Bashan unto Salecah; 12 all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei (the same was left of the remnant of the Rephaim); for these did Moses smite, and drove them out. 13 Nevertheless the children of Israel drove not out the Geshurites, nor the Maacathites: but Geshur and Maacath dwell in the midst of Israel unto this day. 14 Only unto the tribe of Levi he gave no inheritance; the offerings of Jehovah, the God of Israel, made by fire are his inheritance, as he spake unto him.

15 And Moses gave unto the tribe of the children of Reuben according to their families. 16 And their border was from Aroer, that is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and all the plain by Medeba; 17 Heshbon, and all its cities that are in the plain; Dibon, and Bamoth-baal, and Beth-baal-meon, 18 and Jahaz, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath, 19 and Kiriathaim, and Sibmah, and Zereth-shahar in the mount of the valley, 20 and Beth-peor, and the slopes of Pisgah, and Beth-jeshimoth, 21 and all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses smote with the chiefs of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, the princes of Sihon, that dwelt in the land. 22 Balaam also the son of Beor, the soothsayer, did the children of Israel slay with the sword among the rest of their slain. 23 And the border of the children of Reuben was the Jordan, and the border thereof. This was the inheritance of the children of Reuben according to their families, the cities and the villages thereof.

24 And Moses gave unto the tribe of Gad, unto the children of Gad, according to their families. 25 And their border was Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the children of Ammon, unto Aroer that is before Rabbah; 26 and from Heshbon unto Ramath-mizpeh, and Betonim; and from Mahanaim unto the border of Debir; 27 and in the valley, Beth-haram, and Beth-nimrah, and Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, the Jordan and the border thereof, unto the uttermost part of the sea of Chinnereth beyond the Jordan eastward. 28 This is the inheritance of the children of Gad according to their families, the cities and the villages thereof.

29 And Moses gave inheritance unto the half-tribe of Manasseh: and it was for the half-tribe of the children of Manasseh according to their families. 30 And their border was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan, threescore cities: 31 and half Gilead, and Ashtaroth, and Edrei, the cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were for the children of Machir the son of Manasseh, even for the half of the children of Machir according to their families.

32 These are the inheritances which Moses distributed in the plains of Moab, beyond the Jordan at Jericho, eastward. 33 But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave no inheritance: Jehovah, the God of Israel, is their inheritance, as he spake unto them.
