1 Puis Moïse s'en alla, et tint ces discours à tout Israël;
2 Et leur dit : Je suis aujourd'hui âgé de six vingts ans, je ne pourrai plus aller ni venir; aussi l'Eternel m'a dit : Tu ne passeras point ce Jourdain.
3 L'Eternel ton Dieu passera lui-même devant toi ; il exterminera ces nations-là devant toi, et tu posséderas leur pays; [et] Josué est celui qui doit passer devant toi, comme l'Eternel en a parlé.
4 Et l'Eternel leur fera comme il a fait à Sihon et à Hog, Rois des Amorrhéens, et à leurs pays, lesquels il a exterminés.
5 Et l'Eternel les livrera devant vous, et vous leur ferez entièrement selon le commandement que je vous ai prescrit.
6 Fortifiez-vous donc et vous renforcez; ne craignez point, et ne soyez point effrayés à cause d'eux; car c'est l'Eternel ton Dieu qui marche avec toi; il ne te délaissera point, et ne t'abandonnera point.
7 Et Moïse appela Josué, et lui dit en la présence de tout Israël : Fortifie-toi, et te renforce, car tu entreras avec ce peuple au pays que l'Eternel a juré à leurs pères de leur donner, et c'est toi qui les en mettras en possession.
8 Car l'Eternel, qui est celui qui marche devant toi, sera lui-même avec toi; il ne te délaissera point, et ne t'abandonnera point; ne crains donc point, et ne sois point effrayé.
9 Or Moïse écrivit cette Loi, et la donna aux Sacrificateurs, enfants de Lévi, qui portaient l'Arche de l'alliance de l'Eternel, et à tous les Anciens d'Israël.
10 Et Moïse leur commanda, en disant : De sept ans en sept ans, au temps précis de l'année de relâche, en la fête des Tabernacles;
11 Quand tout Israël sera venu pour comparaître devant la face de l'Eternel ton Dieu, au lieu qu'il aura choisi, tu liras alors cette Loi devant tout Israël, eux l'entendant.
12 Ayant assemblé le peuple, hommes et femmes, et leurs petits enfants, et ton étranger qui sera dans tes portes, afin qu'ils l'entendent, et qu'ils apprennent à craindre l'Eternel votre Dieu, et qu'ils prennent garde de faire toutes les paroles de cette Loi.
13 Et que leurs enfants qui n'en auront point eu connaissance, l'entendent, et apprennent à craindre l'Eternel votre Dieu tous les jours que vous serez vivants sur la terre pour laquelle posséder vous passez le Jourdain.
14 Alors l'Eternel dit à Moïse : Voici, le jour de ta mort est proche, appelle Josué, et présentez-vous au Tabernacle d'assignation, afin que je l'instruise de sa charge. Moïse donc et Josué allèrent, et se présentèrent au Tabernacle d'assignation.
15 Et l'Eternel apparut sur le Tabernacle dans la colonne de nuée; et la colonne de nuée s'arrêta sur l'entrée du Tabernacle.
16 Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse : Voici, tu t'en vas dormir avec tes pères, et ce peuple se lèvera, et paillardera après les dieux des étrangers qui sont au pays où il va, pour être parmi eux, et il m'abandonnera, et enfreindra mon alliance que j'ai traitée avec lui.
17 En ce jour-là ma colère s'enflammera contre lui; je les abandonnerai, je cacherai ma face d'eux, il sera exposé en proie, plusieurs maux et angoisses le trouveront; et il dira en ce jour-là : N'est-ce pas à cause que mon Dieu n'est point au milieu de moi, que ces maux-ci m'ont trouvé?
18 En ce jour-là, [dis-je], je cacherai entièrement ma face, à cause de tout le mal qu'il aura fait, parce qu'il se sera détourné vers d'autres dieux.
19 Maintenant donc écrivez ce cantique, et l'enseignez aux enfants d'Israël; mets-le dans leur bouche, afin que ce cantique me serve de témoin contre les enfants d'Israël.
20 Car je l'introduirai en la terre découlante de lait et de miel, de laquelle j'ai juré à ses pères, et il mangera et sera rassasié, et engraissé; puis il se détournera vers d'autres dieux, et ils les serviront, et ils m'irriteront par mépris, et enfreindront mon alliance.
21 Et il arrivera que quand plusieurs maux et angoisses les auront trouvés, ce cantique déposera contre eux comme témoin; parce qu'il ne sera point oublié pour n'être plus en la bouche de leur postérité; car je connais leur imagination, [et] ce qu'ils font déjà aujourd'hui, avant que je les introduise au pays duquel j'ai juré.
22 Ainsi Moïse écrivit ce cantique en ce jour-là, et l'enseigna aux enfants d'Israël.
23 Et l'Eternel commanda à Josué, fils de Nun, en disant : Fortifie-toi, et te renforce, car c'est toi qui introduiras les enfants d'Israël au pays duquel je leur ai juré; et je serai avec toi.
24 Et il arriva que quand Moïse eut achevé d'écrire les paroles de cette Loi dans un livre, sans qu'il en manquât rien;
25 Il commanda aux Lévites qui portaient l'Arche de l'alliance de l'Eternel, en disant :
26 Prenez ce livre de la Loi, et mettez-le à côté de l'Arche de l'alliance de l'Eternel votre Dieu, et il sera là pour témoin contre toi.
27 Car je connais ta rébellion et ton cou roide. Voici, moi étant encore aujourd'hui avec vous, vous avez été rebelles contre l'Eternel, combien plus donc le serez-vous après ma mort?
28 Faites assembler vers moi tous les Anciens de vos Tribus, et vos officiers, et je dirai ces paroles, eux les entendant, et j'appellerai à témoin contr'eux les cieux et la terre.
29 Car je sais qu'après ma mort vous ne manquerez point de vous corrompre, et que vous vous détournerez de la voie que je vous ai prescrite; mais à la fin il vous arrivera du mal, parce que vous aurez fait ce qui déplaît à l'Eternel, en l'irritant par les œuvres de vos mains.
30 Ainsi Moïse prononça les paroles de ce cantique-ci sans qu'il s'en manquât rien, toute l'assemblée d'Israël l'entendant.
1 And Moses went and spoke these words unto all Israel.
2 And he said unto them, I am a hundred and twenty years old this day; I can no more go out and come in: also the LORD has said unto me, You shall not go over this Jordan.
3 The LORD your God, he will go over before you, and he will destroy these nations from before you, and you shall possess them: and Joshua, he shall go over before you, as the LORD has said.
4 And the LORD shall do unto them as he did to Sihon and to Og, kings of the Amorites, and unto their land, when he destroyed them.
5 And the LORD shall give them up before your face, that you may do unto them according unto all the commandments which I have commanded you.
6 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD your God, he it is that does go with you; he will not fail you, nor forsake you.
7 And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage: for you must go with this people unto the land which the LORD has sworn unto their fathers to give them; and you shall cause them to inherit it.
8 And the LORD, he it is that does go before you; he will be with you, he will not fail you, neither forsake you: fear not, neither be dismayed.
9 And Moses wrote this law, and delivered it unto the priests the sons of Levi, who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and unto all the elders of Israel.
10 And Moses commanded them, saying, At the end of every seven years, in the solemnity of the year of release, in the feast of tabernacles,
11 When all Israel has come to appear before the LORD your God in the place which he shall choose, you shall read this law before all Israel in their hearing.
12 Gather the people together, men, and women, and children, and your stranger that is within your gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the LORD your God, and observe to do all the words of this law:
13 And that their children, who have not known anything, may hear, and learn to fear the LORD your God, as long as you live in the land which you go over Jordan to possess.
14 And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, your days approach that you must die: call Joshua, and present yourselves in the tabernacle of meeting,that I may give him a charge. And Moses and Joshua went, and presented themselves in the tabernacle of meeting.
15 And the LORD appeared in the tabernacle in a pillar of a cloud: and the pillar of the cloud stood over the door of the tabernacle.
16 And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, you shall sleep with your fathers; and this people will rise up, and go play the harlot after the gods of the strangers of the land, where they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made with them.
17 Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall befall them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come upon us, because our God is not among us?
18 And I will surely hide my face in that day because of all the evils which they shall have done, in that they are turned unto other gods.
19 Now therefore write this song for you, and teach it to the children of Israel: put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me against the children of Israel.
20 For when I shall have brought them into the land which I swore unto their fathers, that flows with milk and honey; and they shall have eaten and filled themselves, and grown fat; then will they turn unto other gods, and serve them, and provoke me, and break my covenant.
21 And it shall come to pass, when many evils and troubles are befallen them, that this song shall testify against them as a witness; for it shall not be forgotten out of the mouths of their descendants: for I know their imagination which they go about, even now, before I have brought them into the land which I swore.
22 Moses therefore wrote this song the same day, and taught it to the children of Israel.
23 And he gave Joshua the son of Nun a charge, and said, Be strong and of a good courage: for you shall bring the children of Israel into the land which I swore unto them: and I will be with you.
24 And it came to pass, when Moses had finished writing the words of this law in a book, until they were finished,
25 That Moses commanded the Levites, who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD, saying,
26 Take this book of the law, and put it by the side of the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, that it may be there for a witness against you.
27 For I know your rebellion, and your stubbornness: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, you have been rebellious against the LORD; and how much more after my death?
28 Gather unto me all the elders of your tribes, and your officers, that I may speak these words in their ears, and call heaven and earth as witness against them.
29 For I know that after my death you will utterly corrupt yourselves, and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you; and evil will befall you in the latter days; because you will do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger through the work of your hands.
30 And Moses spoke in the ears of all the congregation of Israel the words of this song, until they were ended.
