1 No primeiro ano do reinado de Dario, filho de Assuero, da linhagem dos medos, que foi constituído rei sobre os caldeus, 2 no primeiro ano do seu reinado, eu, Daniel, entendi, pelos livros, que, de acordo com o que o Senhor havia falado ao profeta Jeremias, a desolação de Jerusalém iria durar setenta anos. 3 Voltei o rosto ao Senhor Deus, para o buscar com oração e súplicas, com jejum, vestido de pano de saco e sentado na cinza. 4 Orei ao Senhor, meu Deus, e fiz a seguinte confissão:

— Ah! Senhor! Deus grande e temível, que guardas a aliança e a misericórdia para com os que te amam e guardam os teus mandamentos, 5 nós temos pecado e cometido iniquidades. Procedemos mal e fomos rebeldes, afastando-nos dos teus mandamentos e dos teus juízos. 6 Não demos ouvidos aos teus servos, os profetas, que em teu nome falaram aos nossos reis, aos nossos príncipes, aos nossos pais e a todo o povo da terra. 7 A ti, ó Senhor, pertence a justiça, mas a nós cabe o corar de vergonha, como hoje se vê, a saber, aos homens de Judá, aos moradores de Jerusalém, a todo o Israel, tanto os de perto como os de longe, em todas as terras para onde os expulsaste, por causa das transgressões que cometeram contra ti. 8 Ó Senhor, a nós pertence o corar de vergonha, aos nossos reis, aos nossos príncipes e aos nossos pais, porque temos pecado contra ti. 9 Ao Senhor, nosso Deus, pertence a misericórdia e o perdão, pois nos rebelamos contra ele 10 e não obedecemos à voz do Senhor, nosso Deus, para andarmos nas suas leis, que nos deu por meio dos seus servos, os profetas. 11 Sim, todo o Israel transgrediu a tua lei e se desviou, deixando de ouvir a tua voz. Por isso, as maldições que estão escritas na Lei de Moisés, servo de Deus, e que foram confirmadas com juramento, se derramaram sobre nós, porque pecamos contra ti. 12 Ele confirmou a sua palavra, que falou contra nós e contra os nossos juízes que nos julgavam, e fez vir sobre nós um grande mal. Nunca antes, debaixo do céu, havia acontecido algo como o que aconteceu com Jerusalém! 13 Como está escrito na Lei de Moisés, todo este mal nos sobreveio. Mas mesmo assim não temos implorado o favor do Senhor, nosso Deus, para nos convertermos das nossas iniquidades e nos aplicarmos à tua verdade. 14 O Senhor tinha preparado esse mal e o fez cair sobre nós, pois o Senhor, nosso Deus, é justo em tudo o que faz, e nós não obedecemos à sua voz.

15 — Ó Senhor, nosso Deus, que tiraste o teu povo da terra do Egito com mão poderosa e adquiriste a fama que tens até o dia de hoje, nós temos pecado e cometido iniquidade. 16 Ó Senhor, segundo todas as tuas justiças, afasta a tua ira e o teu furor da tua cidade de Jerusalém, do teu santo monte, porque, por causa dos nossos pecados e por causa das iniquidades de nossos pais, Jerusalém e o teu povo se tornaram objeto de deboche para todos os que estão ao redor de nós. 17 E agora, ó nosso Deus, ouve a oração e as súplicas do teu servo. Por amor do Senhor, faze resplandecer o teu rosto sobre o teu santuário, que está abandonado. 18 Inclina, ó Deus meu, os ouvidos e ouve! Abre os olhos e olha para a nossa desolação e para a cidade que é chamada pelo teu nome! Lançamos as nossas súplicas diante de ti não porque confiamos em nossas justiças, mas porque confiamos em tuas muitas misericórdias. 19 Ó Senhor, ouve! Ó Senhor, perdoa! Ó Senhor, atende-nos e age! Não te demores, por amor de ti mesmo, ó meu Deus, porque a tua cidade e o teu povo são chamados pelo teu nome.

20 Enquanto eu ainda falava, orava, confessava o meu pecado e o pecado do meu povo de Israel e lançava a minha súplica diante do Senhor, meu Deus, pelo monte santo do meu Deus, 21 sim, enquanto eu assim orava, Gabriel, o homem que eu tinha visto na minha visão anterior, veio rapidamente, voando, e tocou em mim; era hora do sacrifício da tarde. 22 Ele queria instruir-me, falou comigo e disse:

— Daniel, agora eu vim para dar a você inteligência e discernimento. 23 Quando você começou a fazer as suas súplicas, foi dada uma ordem, e eu vim para explicar tudo a você, porque Deus o ama muito. Portanto, preste atenção à mensagem e entenda a visão.

24 — Setenta semanas estão determinadas para o seu povo e para a sua santa cidade, para acabar com a transgressão, para dar fim aos pecados, para expiar a iniquidade, para trazer a justiça eterna, para selar a visão e a profecia e para ungir o Santo dos Santos. 25 Saiba e entenda isto: desde que foi dada a ordem para restaurar e para edificar Jerusalém até a vinda do Ungido, o Príncipe, haverá sete semanas e sessenta e duas semanas. As ruas e as muralhas serão reconstruídas, mas será um tempo de muita angústia. 26 Depois das sessenta e duas semanas, o Ungido será morto e não terá nada. O povo de um príncipe que há de vir destruirá a cidade e o santuário. O seu fim virá como uma inundação. Até o fim haverá guerra, e desolações foram determinadas. 27 Ele fará firme aliança com muitos, por uma semana. Na metade da semana, fará cessar o sacrifício e a oferta de cereais. Sobre a asa das abominações virá aquele que causa desolação, até que a destruição, que está determinada, seja derramada sobre ele.

1 In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, who was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans,2 in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood by the books the number of the years of which the word of LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, for the accomplishing of the desolations of Jerusalem, even seventy years.3 And I set my face to LORD God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting and sackcloth and ashes.4 And I prayed to LORD my God, and made confession, and said, Oh, LORD, the great and fearful God, who keeps covenant and loving kindness with those who love him and keep his commandments,5 we have sinned, and have dealt perversely, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even turning aside from thy precepts and from thine ordinances,6 nor have we hearkened to thy servants the prophets, who spoke in thy name to our kings, our rulers, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.7 O LORD, righteousness belongs to thee, but to us confusion of face, as at this day, to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, who are near, and who are far off, through all the countries where tho8 O LORD, to us belongs confusion of face, to our kings, to our rulers, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee.9 To LORD our God belong mercies and forgiveness, for we have rebelled against him,10 nor have we obeyed the voice of LORD our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets.11 Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even turning aside, that they should not obey thy voice. Therefore the curse has been poured out upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God. For we have s12 And he has confirmed his words, which he spoke against us, and against our judges who judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil, for under the whole heaven has not been done as has been done upon Jerusalem.13 As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil has come upon us. Yet we have not entreated the favor of LORD our God, that we should turn from our iniquities, and have discernment in thy truth.14 Therefore LORD has watched over the evil, and brought it upon us, for LORD our God is righteous in all his works which he does, and we have not obeyed his voice.15 And now, O LORD our God, who has brought thy people forth out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and has gotten thee renown, as at this day, we have sinned, we have done wickedly.16 O LORD, according to all thy righteousness, let thine anger and thy wrath, I pray thee, be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain. Because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy peopl17 Now therefore, O our God, hearken to the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplications, and cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary that is desolate, for LORD's sake.18 O my God, incline thine ear, and hear. Open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by thy name. For we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousness, but for thy great mercies' sak19 O LORD, hear. O LORD, forgive. O LORD, hearken and do. Defer not, for thine own sake, O my God, because thy city and thy people are called by thy name.20 And while I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God,21 yea, while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.22 And he instructed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I have now come forth to give thee wisdom and understanding.23 At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment went forth, and I have come to tell thee, for thou are greatly beloved. Therefore consider the matter, and understand the vision.24 Seventy weeks are decreed upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up vision and pr25 Know therefore and discern, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem to the anointed one, the Prince, shall be seven weeks, and sixty-two weeks. It shall be built again, with street and moat, e26 And after the sixty-two weeks the anointed one shall be cut off, and shall have nothing. And the people of the prince who shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary, and the end of it shall be with a flood. And even to the27 And he shall make a firm covenant with many for one week. And in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease. And upon the wing of abominations [shall come] one who makes desolate. And even to the f
